Anybody using a GPS Navigation unit?

hmm thats a great idea but not for my country
the police here is working with the hit groups..
The car was parked on a main streets with OMV gas station where allot of cops move around.
So there is no explanation how no one saw nothing

From this day the car(alarm system) is connected with the personal phone.
every time the alarm goes on the person receives sms warning.
so the only thing left is to shoot those guys by yourself.

About the insurance on the other hand is 3000$ and it covers nothing.
Why do we pay for insurance anyway?

if you install GPS Tracker to you car
write me up .. i am interested how much will this thing cost

HeHe! Those (bad) cops might have some “side incomes”!

The SMS warning system is good but you have to be somewhere close to your car to act fast otherwise those buggers still can take your car! It takes only less than 2 minutes to steal a car! I will PM you a simple technical tip to “paralyse” the engine ignition system when you park the car anywhere. Even you yourself cannot start the car using your own car key!

The GPS Tracker which I’m trying to source from US is very expensive! I’m trying to get it from Taiwan instead, which are cheaper and the built quality is at par as those made in the US. The Taiwanese really can produce high tech devices you know. Infact their GPS products control European market now like the MIO, Marbella & ALTINA GPS devices. I sure will update you with further info.

I am in love with this car BMW AG : 3 Series Coupé : Overview

I use Verizon Wireless’s VZNavigator service..its free and uptodate with integrated traffic reports that help with calculating routes along with gas prices of nearby stations. It rocks.

Holy Cow! That’s what I call a car!!

It certainly rocks, Buddy!

I’m going to order the MIO H610 model from US and see if I can ‘unlock’ it.

That little white Mio one looks quite fascinating, as I have a Mio A701 myself but never saw that one when I was looking around. Interesting little creature.

Its really awesome because being a phone as well, if you use the GPS functions in your car then get out to go shopping or whatever, naturally one takes their phone with them. That and your phone is charged because it’s been in the dock. Its great if you’re walking around but not quite sure where a street is and how to get there, as you can still use it as a hand-GPS unit.

I wanna know more about that little white critter! LOL

When I saw this model for the first time, I fell in love with “her” since then and could not sleep well thinking how beautiful “she” is!

The model was originally designed for a woman, but it captured the hearts of many worldwide!

If I stay in US or Europe, I certainly will purchase this model, but unfortunately it is not marketed in my country.:frowning:

The Mio H 610 is the first GPS that uses “anti-aliasing”, a technique that smoothes the image according to a review.

Although the display has a standard 240x320 resolution many people thought that it was 640x480, thanks to the use of anti-aliasing, and as a result, the maps are very good looking: sharp and crisp!

Grrrr. I had my message typed out and just accidentally closed the damn window! Hahaha.

I love my GPS/phone/PDA. The only downside to it is that it takes 2 hands to write stuff down or send text messages coz the quickest way to type into it is to write the letters into it with the stylus.

I don’t use the GPS functions too much except when I’m making sure Taxi drivers aren’t trying to pull a shifty on me, or when I get told a street name and can’t remember quite where it is. But it even has all those tiny little obscure towns out in the bush. Its awesome~!! No-one can ever tell me to get lost again because unless my phone gets flat it’s just not possible. Mind you, since pheromones that hasn’t happened! Haha. :stuck_out_tongue:

But my problem is different…I have to use the GPS, otherwise I’ll easily get lost even walking at my backyard!   I can’t remember roads or location even I have passed through that particular area several times! At one time, I went knocking at my neighbour’s door thinking that it was my mother’s house at 5am in the morning!

Anyway, GPS is really facinating…I’ll never leave home without it!
(at least my mother won’t scold me for not coming back home again! )

Wow, that must’ve been a bit embarrassing? I’m that way in unfamiliar territory. In a place like the gold coast where there’s over a hundred KM of city along the coast, and lots of roads that you think lead you in the right direction but take a dog leg turn into the wrong direction and get you lost, I must say that I won’t be quite as worried. And after only having driven in a country ‘city’ (15,000 people), its a bit intimidating the thought of driving around in a big city and having no idea what road goes where…

There’s only 2 down-sides to the GPS and using it on foot… Trying to find a WM5 program that’ll allow me to use it in the bush is a total pain, and having the GPS running constantly while walking tends to run the battery down quite quickly.

I intend to get it from here:

Unfortunatly you cant unlock CDMA devices - GSM only :frowning: sorry.

Oh! No!:open_mouth: Are you sure it can’t be done? I really want that model to be used with Malaysia map!:frowning:

In a GPS forum which I participate, I found this link to unlock MIO C230. What do you think? Is there any possibility?

How to Unlock Mio C230 Release 4 - The Easiest Guide Ever!

In a few days, CDMA phones will no longer work in Australia. There will only be the regular GSM digital service, and the new Next-G 3G thing (not sure what its called in other places). Kinda sucky really…

I’m using a 3G phone for the video call function.

Yeah, I’ve heard they’re good if one lives in a city… But the CDMA phones were originally for the farmers who couldn’t get signal out on their farms but didn’t want to have to spend a fortune on a satellite phone (though some in VERY remote areas still do). So unless you get the right 3G phone (with the blue tick or something), you’ll have just as many problems getting signal as a digital in the bush, where CDMA would have been supurb.

Yeah! I agree with that. The network providers can’t afford to set up transmitter towers which are costly in an area where the population is very, very less. I think the 21.19 million population in Australia is more distributed at the coastal areas.

(Do you think I can sell the GPS Navigation units to the Aborigines? )

Yeah, they are… But even in a lot of the more populated (but still rural) country areas near-ish the coast, there can still be a lot of difficulty with signal on the new system. I’m in a regional center on the coast, and my father who’s the boss at the local recycling and waste depot has a new 3G phone with the blue tick on the box, but one of the truck drivers there who is also on the same 3G system (but different phone) can’t receive signal there because his box with the phone never had the blue tick… What the hell’s with that, anyway?
