Yeah I am not saying I have the answers as to how to do it
But i read somewhere that the founder is attempting to set up a prototype city/town somewhere in America to test it’s efficiency out. I say why America? Test that shit out in Africa where people could actually benefit from it!!!
I think your misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not saying its Good verses Evil like some contest between god and the devil which I dont believe in either. They are just a representation of good and evil, a label we use for it. I am saying there can not be one without the other. Its the law of polarity. Just like you cant have light without dark. I am saying we are born with both good and evil in us. Yes social influences can shape our choices between those two parts of ourselves. Yes money can sometimes lead people to make the wrong choices but its not the root cause of the choice. Even without social influences and money the root still exists so doing away with those will not change the outcome.
Think of it like a infection. You cant just clean the wound you have to get to the root or the infection will fester and just come back full steam.
That is what Gandhi was referring to by saying “be the change you want to see in the world” It doesn’t start in the outer world, it starts inside you with your choices. Having money doesn’t make one bad or evil unless you choose to do bad evil things with it. You can also do good with money. I see hundreds of examples all the time. Look at Brad and Angelina. They give millions in time and money to charity every year. Warren Buffet hands out money all the time to charity and just to help individuals in need. Its a choice.
You don’t have to be rich to make that choice either. Read this story from a few years past…
http://www.pheromonetalk.com/pheromones-384844-post17.html
Did it occur to you that all your seeing is selfish needy and numb because that’s what your focused on ? If your only looking at one side that’s all you will see.
Changing the “world” starts with the small things and those small things can spread like a virus.
I don’t have tons of money, in fact right now we are struggling like everyone else. But I give money to those in more need then me when I can. But its not just about money.
For instance one small example… I have two elderly people on my mail route. They are alone and cant come to the mailbox to get the mail. Heart troubles and bad knees makes it very hard for them. I noticed this so I started leaving the mail at the front door and they are lonely so when I have time I chat with them. Its a pain in the ass sometimes when I am in a hurry but I do it because I made the choice to do the right thing.
Now these two elderly people were so surprised and grateful because they called the postmaster and asked for help and he said no we cant do that so they never mentioned it to me. When the PM found out I told him it only takes a few minutes and if he doesn’t like it I will skip one of my breaks to make up the time. I also reminded him he was getting old LOL. Now when people call for help he is not so quick to say no.
The paper boy wouldn’t do it at first either so I picked up the paper when I brought the mail up. He saw me doing it and now he is doing it. I mentioned it to some neighbors when I was chatting with them and yes they had no ideal about it but they are no longer numb to it. They check on them and run errands for them now. Yesterday was spring break from school and it was gorgeous outside. When I pulled in with the mail the neighbors and the elderly couple were out sitting in lounge chairs chatting away and watching the kids play in the yard and they looked 10 years younger and so happy and all I had to do was be the change you want to see in the world. That’s why my 16 year old son helped that homeless man in the story in the link I provided instead of going off with the other kids and believe me no one feels the pressure of social influence stronger then a teen.
If you want to change the world don’t just clean the wound and cover it. Get to the root of the infection and change that and the wound will heal on its own.
I am not saying our monetary system is perfect because its not. Yes what you have mentioned in your posts plays a part in suffrage. But throwing out the system is like throwing out the baby with the bath water. Its not going to make the baby clean or happy. Money is just a tool.
See your only looking at equality on the outside. People cant be truly equal unless equal on the inside and… well its our differences that make us human. If we were all equal inside and out we would be machines not humans with thoughts and emotions. Thats what makes us special.
Tisha
I think that is EXACTLY what is meant by “Be the change you want to see in the world”, not some big government takeover forcing people to be equal.
"These things are brought up in the world because humanity is not equal. And the more and more GDP a country has the more and more separated society becomes. Why should a scientist that researches a cure for cancer make 50,000 / yr when a wall street broker makes 300 million doing absolutely nothing? Why does a wall street broker make money off of the interest of the lower income society paying loans? We have a system built to keep the poor poor and the rich rich.
I don’t know if there has ever been a study done but I can bet a bottom dollar that a great majority of those that are rich, did not become rich on their own. They were born in to the upper class of society. There are those few rare exceptions, but it’s nieve to think that even half of the rich actually worked hard to become rich.
The simple fact is this: There is a limited number of status’s, money, and power in this world that leave the rest of society to compete for said status, money, & power. To think that EVERYONE can be rich if they wanted is another nieve statement. As more and more attempt, the harder the competition becomes.
Here’s a few facts about more equal countries(pulled from zeitgeist 3):
-Life expectancy: Longer in more equal countries
-Drug abuse: Less in more equal countries
-Mental Illness: Less in more equal countries
-Social capital (meaning the ability of people to trust one another): Greater in more equal countries
-Education: Higher in more equal countries
-Homicide rates: Less in more equal countries
-Crime & rates of imprisonment: Less in more equal countries
-Innovation: Greater in more equal countries"
I disagree with just about everything on this list.
A Wall street banker makes more because he adds more value to peoples’ lives, that is why they pay him. As long as these transactions are freely entered by both parties then he is adding value to peoples’ lives. You may have an OPINION that he should make less, but these people are essentially voting with their wallets every time they do business with him. Now, liberals and progressives who think they are smarter than other people will say that these people aren’t smart enough to realize what they are doing. I happen to have faith that people ARE intelligent enough to spend the money they have earned how they please.
I guarantee that vast majority of rich people made it on their own. And even the ones who were born into money - so what? I happen to think that people should be able to leave things to their children. Why would people work their whole life building something, only to have the government seize it at the end of their life? Talk about stifling the entrepreneurial spirit.
There is ABSOLUTELY NOT a limited amount status or wealth. This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions out there. The size of the pie continually changes. That is why a poor person in the U.S. is far richer than one in Africa. GDPs change all the time. Essentially, a rising tide lifts all boats.
As to your Zeitgeist “facts” I would especially take issue with innovation being greater in more “equal” countries. That is simply not the case. The U.S. is by far the greatest innovating country and countries like China and Japan are constantly stealing their ideas.
All these communistic ideas essentially come down to one thing. Communism turns everyone into the working poor by definition. There is no saving up for a better life, an easier time, idealistic pursuits. It is all government cheque to governmant cheque. It wouldn’t be some middle class utopia.
As to your claims that technology exists to feed and clothe and house everyone - well yes we could do that but large numbers of people would have to work to grow the food and build and take care of the infrastucture etc.. So now you have some people “slaving” for the rest of mankind to sit back and enjoy their creative pursuits. And without the incentives of increased status and wealth, innovation would cease.
Wow that is a lot of typing. ![]()
Heh, wow! Guna have to wait until Im in front of a computer to reply to these. I know what the quote, “Be the change you want to see in the world” means. This conversation got started because I was saying the guy’s issue was with how society is run in todays world. He chose to do something about it by giving up MONEY. This all ties in to(at least in my opinion… We may have gone on a bit of a tangent here but it’s okay i think it’s a fun learning experience for anyone reading or posting, myself included) the guy on the news report.
Personally though I see it this way:
You trying to be the change you want to see in the world is step 1. What’s step 2? Step 2 should involve something bigger if you WANT TO SEE A CHANGE IN THE WORLD. Step 2 should involve something in regard to the bigger picture. Actions that will make a difference on a larger scale. You want the end result of step 1 to be the fourth of july, not a lame fire cracker.
Otherwise you’re waisting your time. You need to find a way to grow your circle of influence so it reaches and changes more peoples lives. Not just the few you interact with on a daily basis. At least thats how I see it.
Im not being negetive im just a big picture person. A random act of kindess here and there is cool and all but thats what is EXPECTED of humanity already. Im not talking for a single second about Americans or anyone else that have a JOB. Im talking about the 50 BILLION starving people out there that nobody cares about. And you obviously never watched the videos chad, not to be rude, but if you’d have watched the videos you would know that scientists and engineers already have a design for a tower like building housing a hydroponic farm completely run by machines. So yes… The whole world could be fed for without any body slaving away.
Power, status, & money is limited. Im sticking to my belief on that. The monetary system is in a way very closely related to a pyramid scheme. There’s no way you can’t see this? You truly think everyone in this world can have 100,000$ jobs? What if all at once all of a sudden the entire united states decided they wanted to make 1,000,0000$$ in 3 years. You’re telling me each and every american can make 1,000,000 in 3 years if he did everything he was supposed to? How about 20,000,000 in their lifetime? Likely hood aside… But realistically, you think every american can make that kind of money? No way! There arnt enough jobs out there or possibilties out there for every American to do so. i’d be hard pressed to say that every American could even get a 60,000/yr job. I doubt thats even possible.
Please keep in mind im not complaining for myself, Im on track to make a decent living. Im complaining for people who are less fortunate than me. People I’ve seen with my own real eyes traveling to other countries starving to death. All of this is about them. Not me.
Well that was longer than i wanted to type on my phone…I’ve got more so i’ll wait until tonight to revise my rough draft lol.
Hi MusikAddikt, just to point out that not all Singapore women sell themself, it’s only the third class citizen, illegal immigrants and foreign talents who takes advantage on the given opportunity which is being handed to them.. The ONLY thing that is wrong about Singapore coming from a Singapore guy is that this country have become a business corporation whereby I’m not shy to even say that this is no longer a country but a company named Singapore Pte Ltd.. Owned and Control by one man who’s symbol is the sign of lightning with blue backdrop.. Not meant to offense anyone.. Have fun.. XD
