I’ve searched around and found a lot of opinions as to what cologne to wear for various situations. Seeing as how I have very little knowledge of cologne aside from the Aqua de Gio (did I spell that right?) what would you suggest for me?
I just about always wear A314 out, and usually Instant Shine (Neroli scent) when I have some. Theoretically, I’d also like something that covers up/goes well with my less frequent use of:
unscented Scent of Eros
Androstenone spray (w/ neroli)
P74 (w/ neroli)
P83 (w/ neroli)
Also worth mentioning is I’m a smoker (I’m quite aware it’s bad for me). It alters my scent significantly enough to mention. I HATE having to worry about just smelling like I haven’t showered, but I also don’t like obnoxious or overpowering colognes; so I was wondering if anyone had any advice? Help would be so very, very appreciated from people who know a lot about cologne, what it goes with, and what covers up scents. I’d prefer to just have one cologne that I could use for all situations rather than have to buy multiple products, due to simplicity and the fact that I like to have my own sort of distinct “scent-signature” in general. My experience with Aqua de Gio was excellent with Scent of Eros itself, but I don’t think it would work so well with the A314 oil (the scented version of Scent of Eros smells great, but mixes like shit with A314 which really bums me out, and though I’d choose A314 over SoE in a heartbeat, I have had great experiences with SoE as long as there’s a good cover… I’d like to be able to use them both together!).
I noticed there are colognes to buy here, and I’m not knocking them since I haven’t used them, but please don’t give them any particular priority due to their presence on this site (but goddam Androtics rules so hard!). Thank you so much for your help!
Like musk soap or something? I can’t recall ever having seen a generic “musk” product that isn’t a soap or something. Most pheromone containing products are labeled as containing “human musk”. Are you sure that would be adequate or really cover it up much at all? Could be, I suppose… Either way thanks for the advice.
Sorry, total cologne noob… but if I have the right gist of what a musk cologne is, I think I may be looking for something “brighter” or “lighter” or more “cooling” for contrast to the artificial human body odor that I frequently use…
It’s probably best to go to a department store and actually smell colognes in person. But it sounds like you want an aquatic type fragrance, which would be kind of similar to Aqua Di Gio. Check out something like Chanel Bleu or D&G Light Blue.
Sephora… they have a huge selection of colognes along with cans of coffee beans so you can clean your nasal palate.
Find something you like, narrow it down to 2-4 then spray scent 1 on your left wrist, scent 2 on your right, let it dry down then walk around the store and approach random women including the sales staff and get their responses.
I do this all the time and every woman I’ve approached has not only been helpful but very honest. Take into consideration those their age etc., it doesn’t hurt to get a variety of women, but try to stick within a range that your targets would fit into.
