Considering getting Colored Contacts...Opinions, thoughts, recommendations, advice

Edit: I see there is over 100 views in this thread and I have only received about 5 votes lol. Please vote for my poll. Thanks!

I visited my optimitrist 2 days ago for a yearly eye appointment, and expressed an interest to them about considering switching to colored contacts instead of my usual clear contact lenses. I have naturally brown/dark brown eyes and I don’t particular like my natural eye color. Considering getting colored contacts was more of a spur of the moment consideration to have a new change in life . The ladies were kind enough to let me sample 4 different shades of colors: blue, green, turquoise, and amethyst. I have 2 pics of me with all the 4 different colors. I will be getting 1 year’s supply and they told me I can get 2 color’s with a 6 month’s supply of each for a 1 yr suppy of contacts. I am going to choice 2 colors instead of 1 so I can switch the colors up from day to day. I want your top 2 choices of colors. Please click on the pics, so it will display each of them bigger. You might notice a brown mark on each contact near the edge. It is a sample contact so it has the word “demo” on the actual contact, but when I buy them, that won’t be there and the color will cover that blank spot. Thanks for your time ladies and gentlemen.

Note: I also did try grey at the actual office but it seemed to be very similar to blue or a shade similar to olive green, so i opted out of taking that home to sample.

First pic:

The eye I am pointing at is blue, and the other color is turquoise.

Second pic:

The eye I am pointing at is green, and the other color is amethyst (purple)

LMAO, ah rev you never cease to amaze with your posts (wondering what’s next.) Ah, well honestly I’d go with the blue, but that’s just my opinion. The green also looks OK on you, so I picked these colors for you because they look more subtle and natural (like if they would be your own natural color.) You could probably pull off the others as well, but they’d look more fake than the blue and green.

On me I personally love the grey contacts, and blue because they go well with my pale skin and black hair.

Awesome mikoto; thanks a lot my friend. Every person I have asked so far have liked the blue on me. I was told I look like a superhero or something (think X-Men) with the amethyst contacts lol. That’s cool I guess haha.

Yeah, I mean the amethyst looks cool but you can tell that it looks more non-natural. However, you can still wear them for maybe days when you want to seem “different?” However, if you want a natural look and have the girls think that’s really your natural eye color, then green and blue are the ones you should pick. In the end it’s all up to you though, which reminds me I need to get my eyes checked too. Damn astigmatism!

I’m sure some of the girls will chime in and offer other opinions.

Lol you actually made me laugh out loud with your astigmatism comment. I was told I have it very minorly in my right eye, but it’s so unpronounced that I don’t have to have toric lenses that are often prescribed to astigmatism patients. Thanks for your recommendation. There is a very high chance I will pick blue, and will weigh in on the last choice once all the poll results are in. I don’t want any of my comments to sway anyone’s decision though. :stuck_out_tongue:

You should have modeled them in pairs, so we can see the full effect of each color set.

Hmm, I’m having a hard time deciding. The blue looks nice, but I can’t decide on the other color. Did they only give you one of each color to try?

Hey I see girls out and when I chat and look them in the eyes and see those blue contacts in. All I have too say is Wow.

So with that said, girls what color eyes do you say you like to look into?

Sillykitty, unfortunately yes. They only gave me one of each color for me to sample out. I was pretty bummed. :frowning: You could try covering the other eye with your hand lol, and that might help. Thanks for your help as well Sillykitty. It’s very much appreciated.

Ha, ha yeah it sucks! I hate having to squint my eyes, but meh! Last time my Optometrist didn’t really get my prescription correctly so my vision was still somewhat blurry, plus the contacts would blur on me right away so I think I need to get checked again. Might also get some grey lenses as well, been wanting to but I hope my insurance covers it.

I asked my optimitrist about clear contact vs. colored contacts. Even if you have perfect vision and want to buy colored contacts just for the looks, your health insurance should cover most, if not all of it. I am going to end up paying only about $80 for a 1 year’s supply of colored contacts after health insurance and rebates, as opposed to $15 for a 1 year’s supply of clear contacts, so the price is actually very similar. I am getting Freshlooks and that is the best choice. The other is Aquevue (sp?) and my doctor has this as well, but doesn’t really recommend it much to many patients. Hope that helps. There are 2 diff types of Freshlooks. Colorblend (best for dark eyes and blends a touch of brown in the contact with your main color of the contact) and the other version which is best for light colored eyes and is just a plain solid color on the contact lense. The plain solid color version looks highly unnatural if a person with dark colored eyes wears it. I know from personal experience from trying it out at the office.

You know, you can also buy colored contacts online with no prescription added to them if you ever just want to add some color, but not sure if this is safe or even a good idea. I bought some once though, not too bad.

Believe it or not, but if you know your prescription strength (power) of your contact lenses, most online contact lenses stores will make those for you for either the same price or only just a tad bit extra. I have never tried this method, and would highly suggest buying from a professional, aka your personal optimitrist.

Green looks best on you (IMO), but Blue is good too.

The other ones look too fantastic. Turquoise looks like a hue glitch in a pc game, when there are random shiny pixels of colour on the objects which have changed hue completely. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thats totally ridiculous!! Especially if you are buying a year’s worth of them, from them. I would call them and tell them exactly that, that you need two of each in order to make a proper decision on color. Now I’m mad  What’s their number??!!

Well considering I would have had to pay $265 for a year’s supply if there was no rebate and if I had no health insurance (which I do), yes I totally agree with your statement. I am going in for a follow-up in less than 2 weeks, so I guess I can ask to try on the same color pairs for each of the colors I am considering, so that I could make a better choice. The follow-up consultation is free I believe, so I will take that to my advantage. grins Thanks for your votes everyone. You all are a great part of helping me choose my future look hahaha. :stuck_out_tongue:

I did choose blue and green in your poll, but make them give you two of each sample. That is so retarded, I wish I was going with you to you appointment, I would definitely have something to say to them (nicely of course)!

And your avatar picture does not do you justice, you are very nice-looking

Thanks a lot Sillykitty! You’re very kind. :o…I will update my avatar pic once I get my actual colored contacts . I will go ahead and ask them to get two of each sample. They also have a computer that digitally alters my picture (similar to photoshop) and would show me how I would look with each color I’m considering. I didn’t do this part during the last visit because they figured since I already “sampled” some at the actual office, there was so need to use the computer system. If it is free, then I will ask to see myself with the computer system during the follow-up appointment, so I can better judge what it looks like with 2 of the same color and comparing a wide array of colors side by side.

These look a bit creepy, but take a look anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

I gotta head out - I’ll finish the other two when I get home.

You had your head at an angle in this first photo, so the turquoise when gave you a V shaped head. I had to skew it. Sorry if it looks bad!

Wow, Leafstamp this is amazing! :open_mouth: You definately have tons of talent in this field. Do you do this type of stuff (photo editing, graphic design etc. for a living? REPS!!!

I do occassional graphics work - out of interest. But I’m an engineering major. Just been computer savvy for a while.

The first one I spent a bit of time on (taking out beauty marks and changing the grains of the pores to not make it look so freaky symmetrical - but couldn’t do that with the other one - too rushed) As I type this, my toothbrush is in my mouth. I’m seriously late :stuck_out_tongue:

IM GOING NOW! BYE!

(I promise)
