DHEA unexpected effect

Having little knowledge about this substance i decided to get some whilst at the store and give it a shot under the impression it would help me along with my work out. I ended up taking two 50 gram capsules and I noticed it helped me immensely at playing guitar! This is impressive considering I’ve tried all sorts of b vites, multi vite, DHA (algea source), choline lecithin, and acytl l carnitine to help my cognitive function. Didn’t recognize much effects from all of those combined. With DHEA I’ve definitely noticed a difference! Ive also been using fenugreek in the hopes it will boost my testosterone levels somewhat. So perhaps they are working together?

Anyone have any experience or knowledge about DHEA? Information online seems somewhat conflicting.

Well, for one, I doubt you took even one 50 GRAM capsule, because you couldn’t get it down your throat. I suspect it was a 50 milligram (mg) capsule.

I would be cautious about taking DHEA:

  1. In women, there is a statistical correlation with breast cancer.
  2. In men, it is more likely to be converted into female hormones than male hormones. (2-step process to convert to testosterone:
DHEA->androstenedione->testosterone; each step allows for the ready addition of benzene or other aromatic radical, to form estrogenics.)
  3. In addition to the side effects from female hormones as in 2), it is entirely possible for men to develop breast cancer (see 1)
  4. Any time you take hormone supplements that the body makes naturally, especially for long periods of time, you run the risk of the organs that make your own hormones atrophying. Why? Because there are regulators in the body that keep track of how much of a given hormone you have in your blood stream, and if it’s elevated, then the production of said hormone is cut back. You can end up with less of the hormone than you had to start off with.

And yes, studies do indicate increased cognitive function with DHEA supplementation or increase.

But I would strongly recommend finding ways to naturally augment your body’s production of DHEA rather than supplementing.

yes mg lol. I’m off to find a good precursor rather than taking it directly. If you have any suggestions please feel free to chime in. thank you!

(edit) omega 3 oil>DHEA naturally. Looks like im going to be consuming hemph oil (FRESH crushed seed source) from now on ^.^. perfect omega balance for the human body.

It works, but as was stated prohormones can be risky. Personally much like heavy None products, prohormones should not be needed until your mid thirties. Unless you have Low T as a result of some medical condition I advise against using it.

Now if you want a healthy boost to your T levels really the two best options are ZMA (as Zinc and Magnesium are essential for T production) and look into Anti Estrogens and Anti Aromatase supplements. These should help your T stay T and not convert to E, and the lack of E will make your body produce more T…ironic I know but you want to trick the body a little.

Will this produce the same kinds of T levels as prohormones and T replacement? no, but it will GENTLY nudge the pendulum to that side in a much healthier way that is less likely to produce a backlash.

DHEA is the steroidal hormonal precursor, or “mother” hormone to cortisol, testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. For each person, there is variation in the way DHEA is converted into these other hormones, depending on your personal biochemistry.

It’s possible to disrupt the balance of hormones in the body by taking DHEA

Look into Maca, Rhodiola rosea and Astragalus root, These will help the adrenals function well so your natural levels of DHEA will stay in a healthy range and you will not need to supplement.

Too true! In the mid 90’s; there was a mini “epidemic” of males diagnosed with breast cancer. The ensuing 5 year period produced such a wealth of knowledge; the early diagnosis improved survival statistics significantly.

try pregnenolone. it used to be used in massive doses to treat arthritis in days before they discovered cortisol and has relatively few nasty effects. it may also increase natural pheromonal output

does it increase cortisol levels?

As I am to understand it causes baldness in men younger than their 40’s if they chose to take it.

That’s not a totally definite side effect but it is possible, DHEA is a precursor to testosterone. The problem is that the body will almost always try to fight attempts to take it out of homeostasis…ie changing hormone levels, trying to gain too much muscle etc.
When test is overabundant the body receptor sites interpret this as bad and will try to achieve balance. It does this by converting excess testosterone into estrogen (why some bodybuilders get bitch tits) or into DHT (prostate enlargement and hair loss).

It has it’s greatest risk in young healthy males that are likely already producing sufficient testosterone, as an older male can experience a rise in test without the body freaking out and saying “woah what the hell am I supposed to do with all this shit?!?!”

Pregnenolone is higher up the chain of biochemical reactions than DHEA. Some of it will get converted to DHEA.

In my experience pregnenolone makes me more alert in an outward oriented direction. DHEA makes me more introspective. I generally take the two together for balance. To me, pregnenolone has more of the “smart drug” effect than DHEA. And on occasion it has seemed to help with sore joints, though fish oils (DHA/EPA) are more effective for that.

For DHEA, the actual potency seems to vary considerably from one manufacturer to another. If you’re actually getting 100mg of DHEA, Bodomslayer, that’s quite a lot for a twenty-two year old. At that age, it would have had me climbing the walls! Unless you have some medical condition, I doubt you need to worry about increasing your testosterone for a few more decades!

The choline should improve your short term memory and ability to filter out distraction.
