Does Purell null pheromones?

I read somewhere that ethanol nulls mones. This confused me as pheromones themselves are alcohol based.

Does this rumor have any merit?

I would say no. The reason why alcohol kills germs is that common bacteria are surrounded by a lipid (fat) layer, and the alcohol breaks down that layer. When the germs are exposed directly to air, they instantly dry out and die. Pheromones are not lipid-based, not even A314, where oil is simply a carrier. Even then, my educated guess says alcohol can make them wear out faster, due to rapid evaporation caused by it, and it can break down the oil carrying A314. But it will not destroy the pheromones themselves.

Thanks for the in-depth explanation. Was wondering if the oil would immediately dissolve under the ethanol… either way, glad to hear the mones are still intact.
