Hi:
I just got my first androtics order (which was shipped very fast btw).
I was going out to dinner with the dh (his birthday) and another couple. I applied 1 spray of IS/A and 1 spray of instant shine. dh said he liked the fragrance. I didn’t especially like it but it was okay (see below my issues with most perfumes). He tried one spray of ammo; I thought it smelled nice.
So…nothing really out of the ordinary happened at dinner. We had a good time, but I noticed no behavior out of the ordinary. dh is not amourous at all, but he’s suffering some severe knee and foot pain and started taking darvocet today, so what can I expect, really?
I had ordered instant female magic, but it was out of stock and mx274 was substituted. After dinner my curiosity got the best of me and I applied one spray to my neck/chest. At first, I thought the smell was very interesting. It definitely smells musky. But then it became very cloying. I’m not sure what fragrance base it has, but it smells like citrus, chocolate, and a ferret. Within about 15 minutes it gave me a headache.
So here is where I should explain that most commercial perfumes, colognes and scented bath products give me a headache. If I walk into a store that sells potpourri and candles, I get a headache.
I sort of forgot this, because several years ago, I stopped buying cheap perfume as well as expensive designer perfumes, and started buying high quality single-note floral oils from an all natural essential oil store and mixing my own fragrance blends. These products cause me no headaches, even when I pile them on heavy. For example, this morning I doused myself heavily in pure jasmine, gardenia, and bergamot oils. I enjoyed being in a cloud of fragrance all day and suffered no ill effects.
Bottom line, I’m sensitive to some chemical or chemicals that by law get to fall under the mystery label of “fragrance”, which makes it difficult to impossible to figure out what it is. I’m guessing it is benzyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, or benzaldehyde, because these are very commonly used in fragrances and from their msds sheets I know they can cause headaches. But then again the culprit could be any number of other things.
Anyway, the end result is I’m not sure I will be able to use all the products long enough to assess the pheromone effects, because of other ingredients in the base. Perhaps the full size unscented versions might work for me.
On another interesting note, my cat (14 yrs old, male, neutered) thought the products were interesting. This cat hates “chemicals” – anytime I spray cleaners, hairspray, or anything else, he will curiously smell it, then squint his eyes and back away (or run away). Like me, he isn’t bothered by pure plant extracts, even if they are very strong. So, the cat wasn’t bothered by the androtics products. He was indifferent to ammo, IS/A, and instant shine, but didn’t squint and retreat. When I sprayed the MX274, he was sitting a few feet away, and started sniffing the air extensively for a long time. It was definitely of interest to him. When I got close to him, he still didn’t squint and back away, just kept sniffing.
