In to see a medical professional. I’d interacted with her once before. She wanted to schedule me for 2 apointments and I had objected so she scheduled one longer apointment to do what she had to do. She may not have been happy with that.
Her, mid 40’s, asiatic descent but well Americanized. She had a gentle touch and voice and obviously prided herself on her equanimity.
So she starts her procedure, does something, and tells me to remain still. So I stay still. 10 minutes later she comes back and says “oh no, you moved.” I’m wondering how I moved but I decide to say nothing. So she goes away, comes back, and begins to start the procedure all over again. This time she repeats the verbal command “stay still” 3 times as she is trying to move one of my body parts. I think “this is curious” but keep the body part immobile. Then she says in an irritated tone “You need to relax and let me position you the way I want.” So I relax without saying anything, just letting her contradictory statements hang in the air. There was another patient and an assistant around and they were looking puzzled too.
I got the feeling she was irritated and wanted to argue or fight about nothing. I didn’t oblige and just left her a mirror to look at. I got the feeling she was not only frustrated with me but also with her own reactions.
