Subject: Is Hell endo or exothermic

The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington
chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so “profound” that
the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of
course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic
(absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law
(gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we
need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate
at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once
a soul gets to Hell, it will never leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different
Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state
that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do
not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go
to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of
souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of
change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order
for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume
of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

  1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls
enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase
    until all Hell breaks loose.

  2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the rate at which souls
enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell
    freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa, (Cheerleader Captain
and Class Valedictorian) during my Freshman year that, “it will be a
cold day in Hell before I sleep with you”, and take into account the
fact that I slept with her last night and again this morning, then
number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and
has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it
follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore,
extinct…leaving only Heaven, and thereby proving the existence of a
divine being, which explains why Teresa kept shouting “Oh my God!!!”

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY “A”

BEST CHEMSTRYANSWER, EVER, PERIOD! Incredible story about an elephant’s memory UPI July 3, 2006

A young man was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from college.
While he was walking through the bush, he came across a young bull
elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed so the man approached it very carefully.
He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant’s foot.
There was a large thorn deeply embedded in the bottom of the foot.

As carefully and as gently as he could he worked the thorn out with his
hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.
The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its
face, stared at him. For a good ten minutes the man stood frozen –
thinking of nothing else but being trampled.

Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away.

The man never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty
years later the man was walking through the zoo with his teenaged son.
As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned
and walked over to where they are standing at the rail. The large bull
elephant stared at him and lifted it’s front foot off the ground, then
put it down. The elephant did that several times, all the while staring
at the man. The man couldn’t help wondering if this was the same
elephant.

After a while it trumpeted loudly; then it continued to stare at him.

The man summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his
way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared
back in wonder.

Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of
the man’s legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the railing,
killing him.

Probably wasn’t the same elephant.

I dont think im good enough to translate my philosophie text from french to english since my first language is french :S. Anyways, he wanted to keep it LOLOLOL!!!

It sort of went like this: It talked about the relationship between “everything is real” with the speed at witch the universe expands and implodes on itself. I proved that time, depth, height, ratios of the bending of light are all equal to “everything is real”. It was so crazy that I needed to talk about Adolf Hitler, Karl Brant to explain my point. The teacher said to the whole class that it was the best text he had ever seen, I was damn proud. The average student was talking about moronic subjects that I had already considered when I was 7 years old…:open_mouth:

Here are some of the words I used in the text just to give you an idea:
cosmic microwave background spectrum
friedman equation
dark matter
“It can be calculated that the rotational temperature of interstellar space is 2 K.”
cosmic string
Einstein
PSR 1913+16

impressed?

hey lor.can you post the texas chili contest?

ALL GRANDPAS, HEED THIS WARNING :

Do NOT lose your Grandkids in the Mall!..

A small boy was lost at a large shopping mall.

He approached a uniformed policeman and said, “I’ve lost my grandpa!”

The cop asked, “What’s he like?”

The little boy hesitated for a moment and then replied,

“Crown Royal whiskey and women with big boobs.”

Texas Chili Contest
If you can read this whole story without laughing then there’s no hope for you. I was crying by the end. Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better. For those of you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San AntonioCityPark. Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chili taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield, IL.
Frank: “Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge’s table asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili wouldn’t be all that spicy and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted”.
Here are the scorecard notes from the event:
CHILI # 1 - MIKE’S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI…
Judge # 1 – A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.
Judge # 2 – Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
Judge # 3 (Frank) – Holy shit, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that’s the worst one. These Texans are crazy.
CHILI # 2 - AUSTIN’S AFTERBURNER CHILI…
Judge # 1 – Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
Judge # 2 – Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
Judge # 3 – Keep this out of the reach of children. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.
CHILI # 3 - FRED’S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI…
Judge # 1 – Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.
Judge # 2 – A bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge # 3 – Call the EPA. I’ve located a uranium spill. My nose feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I’m getting shit-faced from all of the beer.
CHILI # 4 - BUBBA’S BLACK MAGIC…
Judge # 1 – Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
Judge # 2 – Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.
Judge # 3 – I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beermaid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. That 300-LB woman is starting to look HOT…just like this nuclear waste I’m eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?
CHILI # 5 LISA’S LEGAL LIP REMOVER…
Judge # 1 – Meaty, strong chili Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
Judge # 2 – Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
Judge # 3 – My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I’m burning my lips off. It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw those rednecks.
CHILI # 6 - VERA’S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY…
Judge # 1 – Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili Good balance of spices and peppers.
Judge # 2 – The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb.
Judge # 3 – My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric flames. I shit on myself when I farted and I’m worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can’t feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my ass with a snow cone.
CHILI # 7 - SUSAN’S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI..
Judge # 1 – A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
Judge # 2 – Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about Judge # 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.
Judge # 3 – You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn’t feel a thing. I’ve lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they’ll know what killed me. I’ve decided to stop breathing it’s too painful. Screw it; I’m not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I’ll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.
CHILI # 8 - BIG TOM’S TOENAIL CURLING CHILI…
Judge # 1 – The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
Judge # 2 – This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he’s going to make it. poor feller, wonder how he’d have reacted to really hot chili?
Judge # 3 - No Report

Two Minute Management Course**** ********

Lesson One:

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, Can I also sit on my ass like you and do nothing?

The eagle answered, Sure, why not. So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, saw the rabbit, and ate it.

**********Management Lesson: **********

To be sitting on your ass and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

**********Lesson Two: ************

****A turkey was chatting with a bull. I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree, sighed the turkey, but I haven’t got the energy. ****

****Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my manure droppings replied the ****
****bull. They are packed with nutrients. The turkey pecked at a lump of manure, found ****
****it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally, after a fourth night, he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree. ****

**********Lesson Three: ************

****A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. ****

****As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out. He lay there all warm and happy and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him. ****

You are on a horse, galloping at a constant
speed. On your right side is a sharp drop off, and on your left side
is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you. Directly in
front of you is a galloping kangaroo and your horse is unable to
overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you
and the Kangaroo. What must you do to safely get out of this
highly dangerous situation?

Guts vs Balls,

We’ve all heard about people having guts or balls. But do you really know
the
difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, the Aussie
definition for each, is listed below …

GUTS - is arriving home late after a night out with the boys, being
assaulted by
your wife with a broom, and having the guts to ask: “Are you still cleaning,
or
are you flying somewhere?”

BALLS - is coming home late after a night out with the boys, smelling of
perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the
backside and having the balls to say: “You’re next!”

I hope this clears up any confusion on the subject.

I LOVE Jack Handey’s thoughts on life - almost as good as those of Edward Monkton..

If you ever drop your keys into a river of molten lava, let’em go, because, man, they’re gone.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason."

To me, it’s a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, “Hey, can you give me a hand?” You can say, “Sorry, got these sacks.”

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. “Oh no,” I said, “Disneyland burned down.”

He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland,

If you lived in the Dark Ages and you were a catapult operator, I bet the most common question people would ask is, “Can’t you make it shoot farther?” “No, I’m sorry. That’s as far as it shoots.”

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is, “God is crying.” And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is, “Probably because of something you did.”

If you ever catch on fire, try to avoid seeing yourself in the mirror, because I bet that’s what REALLY throws you into a panic.

To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there’s no music, no choreography and the dancers hit each other.

If life deals you lemons, why not go kill someone with the lemons (maybe by shoving them down his throat).

I think a good gift for the President would be a chocolate revolver. And since he’s so busy, you’d probably have to run up to him real quick and hand it to him.

To me, clowns aren’t funny. In fact, they’re kinda scary. I’ve wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus and a clown killed my dad.

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they’d never expect it.

During the Middle Ages, probably one of the biggest mistakes was not putting on your armor because you were “just going down to the corner.”

If you’re a cowboy and you’re dragging a guy behind your horse, I bet it would really make you mad if you looked back and the guy was reading a magazine.

If your friend is already dead, and being eaten by vultures, I think it’s okay to feed some bits of your friend to one of the vultures, to teach him to do some tricks. But only if you’re serious about adopting the vulture.

If you go to a costume party at your boss’s house, wouldn’t you think a good costume would be to dress up like the boss’s wife? Trust me, it’s not.

Most of the time it was probably real bad being stuck down in a dungeon. But some days, when there was a bad storm outside, you’d look out your little window and think, “Boy, I’m glad I’m not out in that.”

I hope that after I die, people will say of me: “That guy sure owed me a lot of money.”

I think a good product would be “Baby Duck Hat.” It’s a fake baby duck, which you strap on top of your head. Then you go swimming underwater until you find a mommy duck and her babies, and you join them. Then all of the sudden, you stand up out of the water and roar like Godzilla. Man those ducks really take off! Also Baby Duck Hat is good for parties.

If you get invited to your first orgy, don’t just show up nude. That’s a common mistake. You have to let nudity “happen.”

Ail

6 new medical students stand in their first class at the morgue with the Head Professor of Autopsy, in a circle around a fresh corpse.

“Today I’ll teach you your first 2 lessons in your careers as surgeons”, says the Prof.

“First lesson is, to get used to human bodies, alive or dead”. Prof then proceeds to poke his finger in the corpse bum, then licks it, to the gaping eyes of the students.

“Now, it is your turn to do exactly the same”.

Freaking out, students emit all sounds of objections, to no avail as Prof just says “We don’t have all day”.

Reluctantly the first student reaches out, does what is instructed, then rushes to the sink to puke. Second student does the same, and so on, until all 6 of them come back from the sink dragging their feet.

“And what is the second lesson, Prof ?”, asks an almost hateful student.

“Second lesson is, Pay Attention. I poked my middle finger .. and licked my forefinger”
