Help Losing Weight!

Hey!

I need help getting rid of that last bit of weight around your belly. I’m already working out, and all, and i’ve seen great results, but i’ve got this last piece of the puzzle to get through.

Does anyone have any ideas? Any supplements that anyone’s tried that have worked?

Much Appreciated.

And if you’re not into Nicotine and Class A drugs, try CLA. Works well if your lifting weights otherwise I’d give it a miss.

I agree with Rattlesnake that CLA is worth looking into, but I’d like to add that it’s not only effective when weight lifting. CLA has been studied a lot in clinical trials & has been shown to have a lot of health benefits. CLA works well with many forms of excercise…anything that burns calories really, but it’s even more effective with muscle toning/building forms of exercise. It reduces body fat, but especially abdominal fat.

Have a look at these if you’re interested;

Thom E, Wadstein J, Gudmundsen O. (Sep-Oct 2001). “Conjugated linoleic acid reduces body fat in healthy exercising humans”. The Journal of International Medical Research 29 (5): 392–396

Isn’t that Tonalin? I think I have some, I was going to start taking it again but i forgot what the best dosage was.

Yes it is  Tonalin is the one that’s been found to be most effective in trials & the one which is the most consistant quality wise.

"A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, published in the December 2000 issue of the Journal of Nutrition found that CLA reduces fat and preserves muscle tissue. According to the research project manager, an average reduction of six pounds of body fat was found in the group that took CLA, compared to a placebo group. The study found that approximately 3.4 grams of CLA per day is the level needed to obtain the beneficial effects of CLA on body fat.

Experts recommend that you use a patented name brand, as some brands have inconsistent or insufficient amounts of CLA contained in them. The brand used in testing was “Tonalin” brand CLA, which comes in 1000 mg capsules. To obtain the level determined to be effective in the testing – 3.4 g, or 3400 mg, per day – you would need to take 4 of these capsules a day, with meals."

Okay, nice…

So four of them a day…My trouble is I’m best at just taking things all at once, once a day, because I don’t always remember a second time. And the “with food” part…welll…hopefully the pills and food that ends up in me will meet up somewhere during their travels

If it says take with food then take WITH food SK…not 1hr before or after  You increase the uptake of the drug if you take it with food because blood flow to the gut is increased when we eat (that’s why you feel tired after eating, less blood flow to the brain). If you have more blood flow you get more uptake of the drug into the circulation & hence better effect. If you take drugs on an empty stomach they are absorbed slower & therefore more is broken down & metabolized by the acid & enzymes in your gut…net effect is less drug to do it’s work systemically

OK, geek will shut up now

NOOO don’t shut up!! Thats great to know!!

It’s basically the reason most meds say to take them with food, to ensure you get the intended therapeutic effect…it also reduces the risk of nausea

The only ones that are advised to take on an empty stomach are those that where certain foods affect absorbtion of the drug etc

Ooops then I better hurry up and take things, because I ate some toast maybe an hour ago, better hurry while some is still hopefully hanging out in my stomach…

What if I take the pill RIGHT before I start eating, like minutes…

Thats cool, right?

I’m sure that should be fine. Though I take mine right after, so the pill has something to land in :stuck_out_tongue:

Xiphoid or Rattlesnake, I was under the impression that man made CLAs in supplements fell into the trans fatty acid catagory and should be avoided. Natural CLAs in cheese, butter, and grassfed beef are good in moderate amounts. Do you have any info about this?

I’m not sure but I think that’s what the researchers are alluding to when they talk about making sure you buy the well known (and more expensive) brands like Tonalin…those products have quality control for their ingredients and are consistent with type of contents and concentration etc.

I’ll see if I can get a hold of any more recent research articles for you Renny

Yeah, that’s fine  Take your pills just before you start eating, whilst you are eating or as your dessert…either way they’ll end up in your stomach when the food is going in

NO, you have to take the food and pills AT THE EXACT SAME TIME, so they both hit your stomach at the same time. This is very important, because otherwise the effects of the food and the pills will cancel each other out and you’ll have to start all over again. Its a little tricky, and does take some practice but I’m confident you can do it!!

Oh the wonderful world of sarcasm…

How I love thee.

some cause unwanted side effects such as constipation or the opposite when taken without food, so take your pills with a glass of milk if you forget, that should offer enough buffer between your stomach acid and the pills.
Fruits or crackers work well also.

as for loosing weight,
eat less, chew slower and take a pause between bites.

make sure you eat a minimum of 1000 calories a day when dieting, to avoid rebound weight gain.

5 Surprising Fat Burners to Help You Lose Weight the Natural Way - Healthy Eating - Health.com

Forget the energy drinks, supplements or packaged sports bars — get your zip from naturally energizing foods. Here are 5 you should be eating to get extra oomph every day.

1) Whole-Wheat Bread
The body’s primary source of energy is carbs. I’m not referring to jelly beans and lollipops (a.k.a. simple sugars). If you load up on them, you’ll end up hitting the wall within 20 minutes. Whole grains burn off slower, giving you longer-lasting vigor. They also contain loads of B-vitamins, which work together to boost energy and your metabolism.
Other whole-grain sources: Whole-grain cereal (like raisin bran or shredded wheat), brown rice and oatmeal. Kashi makes great whole grain hot and cold cereals that we love.
2) Strawberries
Need an immediate burst of energy? Have a handful of strawberries. They’re coming into season now at your farmers’ market or produce grocer — this means they’re sweet and juicy. Strawberries also contain fiber, which helps your body more slowly absorb the carbohydrates you eat. Fresh fruits make a great mid-afternoon snack, especially for that 3pm slump.
Other energy-boosting fruit: cherries, apricots …. just about any fresh fruit will give you a lift.
3) Broccoli
Believe it or not, one cooked cup of broccoli actually contains as much vitamin C as an orange. Why is that vitamin important? Well, an Arizona State University study found that 1 in 3 women were not getting enough in their diets. After upping their intake to 500 milligrams a day, they reported feeling better and more energized. Forgo vitamin C supplements and just up your broccoli snacking or sides. (This applies to men, too).
Other vitamin C-packed veggies: cabbage, radishes and spinach
4) Pork
To keep energy levels constant, you need to get enough iron. Unfortunately, iron is the most common nutrient deficiency in the US (and in the whole world). This mineral helps transport oxygen to wherever your body needs it by hooking onto red blood cells. Common iron deficiency symptoms? Low energy and fatigue.
Not only does pork contain iron, it’s also a good source of the B-vitamins like thiamine and niacin, which are both involved with your metabolism. Choose lean cuts of pork, like tenderloin and pork chops — higher fat foods can weigh you down and make you sluggish.
Other lean proteins: beef tenderloin, chicken breast and shrimp
5) Water
Our bodies are two-thirds water. Water helps control body temperature and digestion and, of course, we need it to produce energy. Even slight dehydration can make you tired. Classic recommendations say 8 cups a day, but this can vary per person. Keep a glass by your side and sip away all day. And don’t count out food — eating foods with high water content (fruits and veggies especially) count towards your daily water needs.
The Most Important Thing
Don’t skip meals! Too much time between meals causes your body to start running on fumes, and you’ll be more likely to overindulge at your next meal. Eating larger portions then makes you feel tired and sluggish, too. Stick to 3 balanced meals and 2-3 small, healthy snacks daily — this way you’ll replenish your energy at a slow and steady pace.
