My name’s Rob, and I’m from Central Pennsylvania. I’m a 21-year-old male, and have some issues with shyness.
Here’s my backstory:
From the time I was a small child, I’ve had issues with my father. I was verbally, and sometimes physically abused. I remember waking up one morning on Easter day, and he came at me with a fly swatter, asking me what the hell I was doing up so early. Yikes.
Anyway, he was always a contractor, fixing up houses, remodeling, simple around-the-house jobs, etc. He’s a conservative republican, who watches Fox News and football, among other things.
I found myself, for many years, trying NOT to be what he is. (See where this is going yet?) And so I became the nice guy. The one who never says anything wrong. The one who always steps aside, and opens the door for women. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, rather I go way too far with it.
And I’m not a bad-looking dude! I’ve been told that many times. It’s just that my confidence is lacking, and I have some crappy issues with shyness.
Now, I don’t go out often, and most of my “out time” is spent in coffee shops and book stores.

Hi Rob, my experience is similar to yours, shy bloke with father problems. Too much nice guy. One solution is simply to get into the habit of talking to people. Like noticing things about people and making a random compliment about it then walking away… it will get easier with practise, and using the right pheros will make it easier to get early results, which will boost your confidence there. But you have to take action.
