Hello there! I didn’t know which board to ask this in, so it’s in the Lounge; if a mod would be so kind as to put it in the right place so it gets more visibility and hopefully useful answers I would appreciate it.
I’ve searched the forum for useful advice and haven’t yet found it, and Googling it gives some…inconsistent…results. I’m looking to increase my natural testosterone output and lower my estrogen intake and production.
So far as far as supplements goes I’ve been taking daily 5000mg D-3, 100mg zinc, and used to take 3000mg D-aspartic acid until I finished the canister, and I have yet to buy another one but currently have some Met-Rx Protein Plus that contains 1625mg aspartic acid per scoop, and previously attempted 30 days of GNC Mega Men Healthy Testosterone and 60 days Image Sports Test/Hard Stack to varied results.
For diet I’ve reduced intake of soy-based foods and protein mixes and bars in favor of whey-based proteins, tried mixing maca root powder into my daily drink until I finished the package (tasted terrible, too expensive without consistent results), increased whey protein intake (so far through protein drinks) and animal protein intake (more chicken ), and significantly reduced sugar intake.
For exercise, I have a pretty good full-body routine that resulted in me dropping 50 pounds and 6-8 inches from my waist from January to August 2015 (I’ll detail it a bit later), and I’ve seen abs for the first time in my life.
What more can I do to increase testosterone, but more importantly what more can I do to ensure lower estrogen?
I know a few things.. But first, let me ask what is your goal? Increase in libido? Muscle mass? Pheromone production?
These things can sometimes be ‘bypassed’ without specifically increasing TESt.
I think 100mg of zinc is overkill. Too much zinc is bad for you. 15mg is your daily value. Most zinc supps seem to be about 30 (200% RDA) plus you get some zinc in your diet. Any more is probably not necessary and perhaps harmful.
But zinc is a good one.
Staying away from soy is correct. There is a supplement called ‘indole 3 carbinol’ which is supposedly in green cruciferous vegetables and is touted as helping metabolize estrogen or something like that.
Goal is to “be more manly;” I’m more concerned with the increase in libido and potential pheromone production, but for a time I was also worried my test was too low and/or my estrogen was too high and I was at a “masculinity deficit” both physically and psychologically.
My diet has sucked recently due to limited funds and I wasn’t confident I was getting the vitamin D nor zinc I needed. I’m willing to split the zinc in two to make it last longer if 100mg turns out to indeed be doing me more harm than good now, though.
Re cruciferous vegetables - fortunately I like broccoli and love watercress. I notice Wikipedia’s list has maca on it, and unless I find something to counteract the terrible taste of maca root powder I plan on avoiding that for quite some time.
It also has various mustards on it and horseradish; would you happen to know offhand if having the condiment versions of those sauces count towards the benefits?
I’d say condiments would help a tiny bit. If you have it eat it, but I wouldn’t rely on it as they’re packed with sugar and often SOYBEAN OIL!
I’m not sure if I was clear but I was talking specifically about the supplement indole 3 carbinol because it gives you WAY more than you’d be able to get by eating vegetables. But if eating vegetables is the way you’d rather go, just eat the cruciferuous ones that you like. Not sure if you drink smoothies but you can easily throw some kale in with fruit and not even taste the kale.
Macs is good. It takes a lot though, like 5 grams a day. With an acquired taste. You can look forward to an increase in semen volume! Haha
Yeah it would probably be best to split the zinc in half. Many minerals will often inhibit the absorption of others so having such a high amount in one can make you deficient in another. Can’t think off the top of my head which one zinc interrupts.
Here’s a free method: HIIT
This one will definitely help, and not only that but get you in great shape and increase your stamina!
If you want to increase your libido, here’s what worked crazy good for me.
Eat avocados. And drink Epimedium Tea. Or take Epimedium supplements.
I have asthma, so consistent HIIT is difficult; for example, in May 2014 I actually failed the P90X fit test because I gassed super quickly. I’m much healthier and in better shape now, but given my current circumstances am not confident I can successfully HIIT in my regular routine. I do “The New Rules of Lifting for Abs” workout, though, in 12-week cycles and it’s been the routine that convinced me it is achievable.
Love avocados, hate tea (always tastes too planty for me). I’ll look into epimedium supplements over the weekend and if not too expensive I’ll pick some up, thanks!
The indole 3 carbinol is pretty inexpensive if you’re that serious about your goals.
The Epimedium isn’t too expensive either but you’d want to get one that has the extract and not just the herb. Also, it takes a few weeks to really hit you hard but once it does you’ll have a crazy high sexual appetite. And the longer you take it the more in increases.
I have a Chinese herbal shop near my house so my guy there hooks me up for like pounds of the leaf for like 5 bucks. I whip up some tea with it and drink it daily and that’ll last me like a few months but yeah if you don’t prefer the taste go for the supp.
One thing though.. Once I discontinued it, it took about as long as I took it for for my libido to subside to normal. i.e. Took the tea for 3 months.. Quit.. Remained horny as a dog for another 3 months until it wore off.
That’s too bad with the HIIT. It is a good one and free.
Can you do like 20 second sprints 5 times in a day, 2-3 days a week?
If you can, you’d be golden. If you can’t, there’s plenty of other options.
Just got them today, 60-pack of I3C 200mg and a 120-pack of complex (serving size 2 capsules) containing epimedium sagittatum extract 500mg+maca extract 250mg+mucuna pruriens extract 33.3mg+polypodium vulgare extract 25mg. They had next to the epimedium complex another similar one, but replacing the maca with tribbulus instead.
For other people’s reference in case there’s trouble finding it in a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe or something, Indole-3-Carbinol is usually in the Women’s Health section to affect estrogen metabolism, and epimedium (as I just found out today) is most commonly known…as horny goat weed.
