I’ve now gone into two dealerships, been completely overpowered by the salesman, and had to walk about because I didn’t want to make a decision under pressure.
I’m not a pushover, and I know how to negotiate. But I always end up not being in control of the situation from the salesperson just not showing me any respect. “Here comes a young guy, he must be a sucker.” No matter how clear I make it that I know what I’m doing, they just won’t back off.
I am hoping that next time I go into the dealership, maybe I can get the salesman to back the hell off a little bit if I send out a really aggressive phero signal.
I’m thinking lots of A314 and some Primal Instinct? I need some advice.
Not phero related but, if you are looking for a NEW car, it might be worth it to hire a professional negotiating service like Cartelligent. Bottom line. The auto manufacturers are going belly up en masse. They are hardly in a strong negotiating position. But a combination of POORLY trained sales staff and attempts to compensate for a poor market by ripping off every customer they can, make it difficult to get them to cough up a deal…especially if you don’t know exactly who is particularly hungry. Someone who buys cars for a living might be in alot better position to do that. For example, they are likely to know who MUST sell their cars today, or close their doors tomorrow morning.
Personally, I’m going to wait…and pick up a car after the market is flooded with liquidated stock. Cuz…looking at their stock, most manufacturers ain’t surving long. Those cars have to go somewhere.
When I wear A314 around people my age, either friends or randomers, I get everything Androtics said I would. Respect, respect, respect. Also, people a lot older than me, the 40-50 range give me a lot more respect. I find people 25-35 though will really try and AMOG a 20 year old wearing an A314 heavy mix. Were normally they’d; recognise you’re presence, acknowledge it then let you be. With A314 they will really pick up on the alpha vibe, dislike the alpha challenge from someone younger, and will actively confront you for respect. It can get quite unpleasant. The reason I write this here in you’re thread is because the worst time this has happened to me was around my friends 28 year old brother, who just so happens to be a car salesman haha
Anyway, because you’re around my age and the car salesman is likely to be mid 20’s, 30’s I’d recommend not wearing A314 alone. Adding socials would be useless here too. I’d say wear 5 A314 and 2-3 sprays of Turn up the Heat. The A314 will get you the respect and the Turn up the Heat will get you the on edge/ aggressiveness. It could back fire, but if they want to make a sale and/or not get fired it probably won’t. Good luck.
These guys are pros and know every trick in the book. They’re trained to wear you down (bring out the manager, lie, walk around, etc). A shitload of mones ain’t gonna change much as far as the bottom-line. You might get taken a little more seriously but the bottom-line is they will try to take you for everything they can, respect or no respect. Business is business. Your best defense is to educate yourself on the models, options and dealer net, know what you want and stand firm on your price. If they dick you around, walk away immediately. If your offer was reasonable, chances are they will chase after you.
Now I went through this last year and got the deal I wanted, but it was a cat ‘n mouse game. I never twitched from my price but he tried to dog me at every turn. Finally I cursed at the manager and acted crazy mad and they cut the BS and I drove off the lot. Took frickin’ 4 hours…
