How to know if her looking at you is attraction or something else

So today a couple of girls throughout the day were eying me- would have opened them, but one i don’t speak french, and i’m in france, and two, i wasn’t completely convinced it was like a “you’re cute” stare or if its "“whats this creepy guy looking at”. I know it should be easy to tell the difference, but sometimes its an up in the air situation. how do you guys tell for sure when you are in this kind of situation so you dont come off looking like an even bigger creep?

My guess is that they were just eyeing you. :open_mouth:
Usually stares that signify that they wanted you to stop staring at them have some sort of animosity to them.

Extended eye contact is usually a pretty good sign they are interested in you. If this is followed with other ioi’s then they are advertising that they are interested in you. If you just stare at them forever, they will likely get disinterested. If you are unsure you could always show them some interest, maybe a wink or a “watcha lookin at” kind of face. Depending on their reaction, you can usually tell what they’re thinking.

i mean as in, how do you discern, because i think its interesting discussion, rather then “here try this and see if it works”

A blank stare straight at you is impossible to discern anything about. She could just be zoning out, I know a lot of people who do this quite often. If she is staring blankly at you you need to make some sort of action that she can react to. If you don’t, she could lose interest and any chance of escalating.

I cant believe you missed an opportunity … The only word you need to know in french is this "Bonjour (bon jewer) add to that a sheepish smile and some white tooth smile, and tell them you are Canadian and a Lumberjack from Montreal. They dig lumberjacks . I think it has something to do with teh “wood” lol

Also, if you do come off as a “creep” by trying to get a reaction, big deal… You probably didn’t have any chance to begin with if she already thought you were creepy. So what if one person leaves thinking your a putz, there are many more girls out there.

Personally, I think that’s the biggest thing holding guys back in general. We think that if we make some sort of advance and do it wrong, that girl could think we’re retarded or something. The reality of this is that the one girl will tell you not interested and you will move on to your next target. Getting spurned by one gal is not the end of all your relationship hopes and dreams. There are very few, if any, consequences tied to making a failed pass at a gal. Guys, remember this and you will have much better luck because you are taking more chances. If you never approach, there will be no landing  Cheesy pilots joke, I know, but it’s true…

I’d say that it sounds as if you need to learn to read faces. Reading faces is an invaluable skill. It allows you to know all kinds of things before you would otherwise be able to know them… including whether she’s full of shit when she tells you something or not, and knowing what her glances most likely mean.

SMILE AND WAVE!

GRAB YOUR CROTCH AND STICK YOUR TONGUE OUT!

SAY HELLO!

GO OVER AND SAY HELLO!

MOON’EM!

LEAVE QUICKLY!

Now, you have enough to pick from that goes with YOUR MOOD at the time. Her/their reaction from YOUR reaction should tell you what’s really going on!

I can totally understand this guys question and need for assurance. Sometimes wishful thinking can cause us to see things that aren’t there, or misinterpret/read too much into things. Case in point, dude I grew up with…actually a pretty good looking guy but way too serious and scary. We’d be at a party and he’d be talking about “Dude I think that chick over there digs me” I’d ask why he thinks that and he’d say “she just made eye contact and smiled”. To which I’d point out “Bro, she made eye contact because she felt you burning a hole in the back of her head for the past ten minutes, and when she looked you had like no fucking expression on your face, yeah I saw her smile, that was the ‘Oh God please to drive me out to the woods in the trunk of your car and leave my body by the side of the road’ smile”

…but yeah when I think a girl is staring at me, or even spacing out and just happens to be facing my general direction I like to shake things up a little. Try this. Very calmly as if you were about to give a moving speech look up, close your eyes and take a deep breath…then in a very sudden and exaggerated motion jerk around to make eye contact and yell “boogedyboogedyboogedy” as loud as you can while shaking your head violently.
By this point you have a good shot at having her complete and undivided attention…now offer your hand and introduce yourself.

I’m definitely trying that at my next shindig.

I agree that doing something to make you stand out, often silly, can get you a good deal of interest from your target and a “that guy’s crazy” shrug from everyone else (or roaring laughter, 50/50 in my experience). Regardless, if the girl doesn’t think you’re plum crazy and going to kill her, she just might be receptive. You have now proven yourself to be a fun, spontaneous guy (or that you should be locked up in an asylum). Either way, it’s better than sitting there and never knowing and over analyzing the aftermath.

Guys, don’t over-analyze this stuff, or anything, for that matter. If something doesn’t make sense within a few minutes, don’t beat your head against it for hours. You waste hours, gain a headache, and probably come to 290 different things that went wrong that actually didn’t but will make you super nervous next time anything similar happens. Stay out of your head and live in the moment.

Yes, it was definitely a “whats this creepy guy looking at” stare.

So fortunately, you didn’t approach them or tried to talk to them. Otherwise, you would be currently in jail or extraded back to your country…

It’s not really a case of IOI or just starring back at the creepy guy. It’s all about you and how YOU perceive things.

You simply had a moment of self doubt, you either need to push past it or try little things to smooth out the bump, a simple smile at them would have sufficed, if they had smiled back you should of been over there like a rocket.

I dont know if you have ever heard this before (I suspect alot have on this forum given the user base) but - the true conveyance of any action or form of communication is the result it achieves on others regardless of your intention.

If they are starring at you they ARE interested since thats the emotion you felt from it even if it is being subconsiously done, your moment of self doubt tried to label it differently maybe due to a moment of low self esteem or something similar. They might in time pick up on that eventually though, so go with your initial feeling and make contact, since this also then shows confidence.

If you did missread the situation or were simply not compatable move on, since it doesnt matter I doubt you will see them ever again. The end result is always positive - 1) you Hook up or have fun 2) you gained some experience in approaching people for next time!
