Yes - a ring, a few stories and a photo or two in your wallet of your “dead” partner/fiancee/love of your life is an opener I’ve seen used to devastating effect many times over the years. Even when the guys concerned didn’t have any actual loss to mourn.

Interesting. I had this ridiculously hot neighbor that lived above me above me a few years ago. There was some attraction and something almost happened, but I don’t play where I lay. But you know what? I don’t think I’ve known a single woman who has been taken-in by this one to ultimately care, or sometimes even remember. Till much later anyway.
