I started smoking at the age of 24. There were a couple of years where I quit but then started back. I was up to 2-3 packs of Camel Wide Lights a day. I would go running 3-5 miles w/ a cigarette in my mouth. I’ve tried patches gum and Chantix. Nothing worked. I remembered what a psychology professor did to quit. And it worked. One night, while drunk, I smoked a cigarette, put it out, and chewed on the butt. This made made me throw-up. About an hour later the same thing. This went on 4-5 times before I’d had enough. I did it twice the next night. This was over a month ago and I haven’t smoked since. In fact, I get nauseous when walking by an stinky ashtray. Even when in a smoky bar and drinking I don’t get the urge. Was this extreme? Yes. But so is lung cancer.
Sounds like a good way to quit if you’ve got the mettle.
CONGRATULATIONS, Peregrine!
Quitting is hard, and no matter how you accomplish it, it is an accomplishment.
I have been cigarette-free for nine years, but I remember how hard it was to quit. You should be proud of yourself.
Good for you! That’s a wonderful thing to do for yourself and those you love.
