Don’t expect it to be a wonder drug. That being said (my version of a legal clause
), it’s good stuff.
Finally, a topic that I AM an expert on!![]()
I have bipolar severe, also known as manic depression, rapid cycling. While the Shine didn’t exactly throw me into “everything is beautiful” mode, my down cycles seem to be shorter.
Something to be noted, however, is the flip side to bipolar, the manic phase. Since I’ve started using Shine, I haven’t had a major manic phase at all, and minor ones were hardly noteworthy. Since major manic phases are almost always followed by a hard crash, their absence is highly appreciated.
Overall, it should at least help. Start slow, one spray for a couple days, up to two, etc. until you find your “sweet spot”. HOWEVER, if you are clinically depressed you really need to look into counseling and/or medications. I firmly believe that doctors and psychiatrists tend to over medicate (conspiracy theories involving the pharmaceutical companies abound), but sometimes meds are needed. I know when I went off of my Eskalith and Effexor cold turkey, I damn near died.
If you’re looking for a good pick-me-up, Shine is a good way to go. I haven’t had a lot of self-effects from it, but looking back from the bipolar viewpoint I hadn’t realized that I have not had a major attack since I started using it, which is a good enough self-effect for me. Another good one you may look into is MX272. People report a light, carefree and happy self-effect from it. I’ve been considering it myself.
So bottom line, pheromones can help your mood, but they’re no replacement for proper therapy. And honestly, I had to see several shrinks before I found one that really understood me and my condition and was willing to work with me through the various drug cocktails to find the right combo.
No Ishine can not help with clinical depression. General feelings of sadness or just a down feeling it can perk up but depression is more then just a mental problem. Its a chemical imbalance in the body.

I have also been diagnosed with clinical depression, then bi polar and last year social anxiety.
First off talking therapies are by far the best solution as is cognitive behaviour therapy, that said IS has and is a real aid when combined with above.
If you are in deep depression then not sure it will help that much but believe it will help you not sliding in deep depression once you come out of it.
On the chemical in-balance side of depression, serotonin is the culprit and medication can help this but there are also activities that can help increase its production.
St Johns Wart is good herbal alternative to prescription drugs.
As pointless and difficult as it may seem when you are in deep depression a good walk will help increase serotonin.
I have been in the black pit with no light or apparent way out, but hang in there as there is a way out even if you can’t see yet.
I was having a bad day (realized things are not completed on schedule and getting real pissed off cos my colleagues are not responding to my calls and texts) and just read this thread. I dived to my secret pheromone stash and dabbed Instant Shine onto my upper lip. Ahh… feels better now. ![]()
I agree with Tx…phero’s can be a nice complement and give a temporary mood boost. They won’t cure depression, but they can make the situation more barable.
I also wholeheartedly agree with Tx on the second point he made… Get proper medical help, but shrinks aren’t “one size fits all”…You DO have to shop around until you find one that you click with and that understands you, but once you do they can be an absolute lifeline ![]()
Speaking of seratonin levels, something that works wonderful with that is 5-HTP. You can find it at Wal-Mart for about $8 a bottle. Take one at night to start out with, if needed you can work your way up to 3.
St. John’s Wort was recommended to me, but when I tried it it threw me into a deep depression, and I won’t touch the stuff again. If you decide to try it, make sure you’re not alone and start with the lowest dosage.
Also, with both St. John’s and the 5-HTP, Magnesium enhances the effect. It has been discovered that most depressive and bipolar people have a magnesium deficiency, and magnesium helps the medications maintain a “level” state. Effexor does this also, much faster and more efficiently, however, if you ever have to go off of Effexor the withdrawal symptoms can be brutal. Magnesium is much safer.
I’d recommend the 5-HTP if you’re going to try the natural route, but I would definitely try to find a different psychiatrist that you relate well to.
St. John’s wort, 5-HTP and magnesium are all good natural products that are backed by a lot of research. ![]()
High dose Vit B’s (in particular B5, B6 & B12) are also very effective.
Like Tx said, if yopu choose the natural way always start with a low dose and see how it works for you.
I’d also just like to add that you shouldn’t use St. John’s or 5-HTP in combination with anti-depressant drugs as that can give nasty side effects…
