I had a job interview scheduled, so I knew that some A314 would come in handy. I put on 2 drops on my temples, and waited a little for it to settle. Then I got dressed in business clothes, and headed out. (I was wearing dark pants, pinstriped shirt, and a tie.) The train ride downtown was uneventful. For some reason, there were a lot of high school people on the train. No hits there; everyone just minded their own business.
At the office, the interviewer (early 30’s, Caucasian) was being very respectful as he talked about the job opportunity. He talked about the company in great detail, and offered me coffee at one point. However, this happened fairly often whenever I used A314 (and also IG) in a business setting. So while it was nice to see him acting respectful toward me, it wasn’t the interesting hit that the title refers to.
After the interview, I went back to the train station, and found out that my train wasn’t leaving for another 45 minutes. So I got myself something to eat, and took a seat at a table. It was cramped, and I didn’t have enough room to place all my food. As a result, I ended up spilling some of the fries on the table and on the floor. I mumbled “oops” to no one in particular, grabbed some napkins from the service counter, and started to clean up the mess. At that point, I noticed a woman (mid to late 40’s, African American) at an adjacent table looking at me with an “ow, that’s gotta hurt” look (much like you’d look at someone who fell down). I looked up and quietly said “that wasn’t good” in a slightly humorous tone.
Somehow, we started making small talk while I ate and she read a newspaper. During the conversation, I mentioned that I work in the IT field. Suddenly, she had that “oh wow” expression, and invited me to sit at her table (a hit, definitely). By then, the conversation switched to business and technical topics. She asked me quite a few questions about computers and the internet, which I was able to answer. I thought about flirting with her, but she wasn’t someone I’d normally date. Toward the end of the conversation, she asked me for my phone number; I said OK, what have I got to lose. But when I asked her for hers, she said she had a private line, and only gave out the number to family and friends; fair enough. We said our goodbyes, and I went to board my train.
