James Vaughn Kohl was invited to participate during the prestigious International Behavioral Development Symposium: Biological Basis of Sexual Orientation and Sex-Typical Behavior (1995), which is reported here:“… 89 scientists participated… [T]he conference was… the first to assemble virtually all the top researchers in the field. (http://www.thescientist.com/1996/1/8/)” (http://www.the-scientist.com/yr1996/jan/biodef_960108.htm) He returned to participate in the equally prestigious second symposium held in2000, and the third symposium held in 2005. His 2001 peer-reviewed journal publication (with distinguished colleagues from Vienna) detailed the role of pheromones in heterosexual attraction, and received The Zdenek Klein award (diploma and medal) for the best paper linking neuroendocrinology and animal behavior.
In 1996, James Kohl established the Internet domain pheromones.com as an information source - when the concept of human pheromones was a new concept. Pheromones.com continues to include the latest information that supports Kohl’s biologically based model for the development of human sexual behavior. This is one reason why James V. Kohl is considered by many to be the foremost internationally known authority on human pheromones. Even a 2004 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology and/or Medicine (i.e, Dr. Richard Axel) has a link from his laboratory: the Axel Lab, to pheromones.com.
James V. Kohl’s 1995 book was released in 2002 as an updated paperback edition. In a forthcoming peer-reviewed journal article, Kohl JV (2006) details the overwhelming evidence for the effect of pheromones on physiology and their unconscious affect on human sexual preferences. Kohl’s concept of human pheromones is no longer new. Using a wealth of published research findings, he has now pinpointed the effects of pheromones on genes in hormone-secreting cells of tissue in a specific area of the brain that is primarily involved in olfactory/visual integration and in the development of human sexual preferences.
Agreed, which explains why I’m here. Not much time to participate, and waiting to hear from Jasmin if there will be any posting restrictions due to marketing conflicts of interest.
While we allow people to talk about any retail pheromone product that they legitimately use themselves, we usually consider self promotion spam. (and you’ll even see that we take a very soft approach to promoting our own products here)
However, you’ve done much to advance the science of pheromones, and with the type of respectful approach you have, you’ve earned the right to be exempt from that consideration. You’ll be one of the very few exceptions, because you’ve worked hard for many, many years to be exceptional. THANK YOU for asking first.
Just keep in mind that this is more of R&D forum meant to gather information to create better technology, than it is a place to stimulate and drive sales. We’re not a volume seller like Pherlure (who’s approach actually goes beyond what any ethical person would call “marketing”, as many know).
We may focus on high sales ourselves some day, but not through this forum or our current webstore. We want to maintain this as a a sort of “safe place” that people can find who wish to. An oasis for those who are serious enthusiasts and pheromone eggheads. There’s a LOT of brilliant people here, some who are outright geniuses. We want to do as much as we can to stimulate new thought and, especially, to avoid scaring them off.
Anything I could possibly say about pheromones would only make me sound completely ignorant when speaking to someone as knowledgeable as yourself, so I’ll cut the usual intro I would give a newbie and just say welcome. I can’t wait to hear some of the things you’ve experimented with! Thanks for coming by!
I’m having an identity crisis, and using materials prepared for other purposes, after review of my files to find information on who I am. Not that I should ever be defined by my interest in pheromones, but it does give me some perspective on why I am now posting to this Forum.
Your soft approach is what drew me in. I legitimately use only my products but have never involved myself much in marketing them, other that to link to my domains–and occasional to media representations by others.
Thank you. The current corporate environment is so focussed on profit (patents included) that the science is taking a back seat to marketing. As a researcher, this is disheartening.
Pherlure is the “worst case scenario” that was predictable based on the corporate approach.
You may know that I sometimes get carried away with the technical aspects of research, which can scare some people off. I will try to keep such discussion confined to the Pheromone Theory or Abtracts/Articles portions of the Forum. If/when your focus changes to high sales, there is likely to be current research to support the sales approach. What I’ve consistently seen during the past decade of proliferation of “pheromone sales sites” is repeated references to data that has been thoroughly debunked by more recent research.
At least a few people on this Forum recognized the importance of the initial report. I had discussed this with Celeste Wirsig (who was cited) in 2002 and she sent me reprints of several articles. We have now reestablished communication, but this somewhat attests to how long it can take for interest in new research to develop (even when people willingly disclose their findings, rather than wait to submit patents or increase sales with vague references to “research.”
