Hello, my name is Eric, I am 28 years old. I am originally from Austin, Tx, but I am now living in Boston. A friend told me about pheromones and I have since become interested in trying them out. I am not sure what to expect from pheromones. I have done research in neuroscience journals and based on this I have reason to believe that pheromones can activate certain regions of the brain that will in turn affect the processing of emotions, moods, and through them, thoughts.
I will for sure report back on what my first impressions are. For now, however, I would appreciate receiving the $25 certificate so that I may sample several products. I’m hoping to try AMMO, and Instant Honesty.
Tomorrow is both a federal holiday and FedEx shipping holiday. I can’t promise you any GC’s or orders past today would go out until Monday. I can tell you that the VNO has largely been discredited in papers since 2010, even though some sites still mention it.
Musk odors of pheromones are processed through nasal passage OR receptors like food odors are. There are amine receptors in the nose but not GABA receptors. There are GABA receptors in the cranium, and androsterone and other mones bind to them. No one is sure if mones affect behavior via OR, amine receptors or if they pass porous bone behind the eyes into the brain. Nose receptors for GABA don’t appear to exist.
But substances like TAK can exert potent mood affects beyond baked bread or cookie odors. The VNO is largely the stuff of estrous lower mammals: rodents, etc.
Pro Tip: If a pheromone “expert” ever tells you they know for a fact what androsterone or any other mone does, ask them what exact receptor (where?) it binds to exert mood influence. Not musk odor, mood. Because some of the top PhD’s in the world would like to know.
Thanks for the information. It would be interesting to know what the specific pathways are by which pheromones exert their effect.
I have noticed pheromone-like behavioral responses from taking anastrozole (which reduces estrogen levels by over 70% and increases testosterone levels over 150%). I wonder if there are any studies that show any connection between estrogen/testosterone levels and pheromones?
It’s hard to find pheromone pathway charts. Smaller ones take up a wall, with about 30 enzymatic steps. DHT is 5a reduced testosterone, and -enone is essentially d-ring oxidized DHT. Test. is aromatized from 4,5 to 1,3,5 to make estrogens via aromatase. Thus EST is essentially a derivative of estradiol, an estrogen with 1,3,5 geometry. Derivatives are usually pheromones.
You wouldn’t want to totally block making estradiol from aromatization in men. Could lead to infertility, as could excess estrogens. I would expect high-T men to have a small amount of estradiol pheromone metabolites. Despite diol being mostly feminine, it’s also a marker of male fertility. Being devoid of estrogens would actually be a bad male signature.
