Losing Weight & The Gabriel Method

I’ve been trying to lose some weight and I’ve had a lot of difficulty. I’ve got muscles now but I’m still having problems losing that little extra fat that seems to hide my muscles.

I’ve found this thing called ‘The Gabriel Method.’ Its unusual from what I’ve read but at the same time it also makes a hell of a lot of sense… I’m wondering if anyone here has had any experience with it or knows anyone who has tried it and stuck with it.

What is ‘The Gabriel Method’? Sounds a little ominous for a weight loss method.. :stuck_out_tongue:

Never heard before. Can you elaborate? Might be interesting

Give us some info please!

Weight Loss Diet Free Safe Weightloss Story The Gabriel Method

Bit of info there, thats the official site… Basically from what I read he’s thinking outside the box… He doesn’t just do the whole diet thing with the theory of less food, exercise, lose weight… Because we know the body goes OMG, less food, store energy reserves and we don’t lose anything… Just wondering if anyone’s tried it before I buy it. LOL

I saw that site. Couldn’t see any actual science there.. So I would hesitate to buy it. Try low-carb which isn’t a diet but a way of life, and it might work for you.

Its easy to criticise something one hasn’t tried.

I mean, a lot of people haven’t tried pheromones so they don’t believe they work. Yes, there’s a chance that the Gabriel method won’t work, but from what I ‘have’ read it makes a lot of sense. Why do people assume that everything is so simple as you just eat less you lose weight. Remember those people who just seem to be able to eat lots but they don’t gain any weight, or those who have a saltana and they gain a pound, (ok, slight exaduration) but thats why I was wondering if there’s anyone who ‘has’ tried it.

okay. There’s a mention of a type of gum disease how it can increase weight. When you think outside the box, it makes sense. The body thinks it may not be able to get the nutrients it needs in the future so it stores extra. And an any time money back guarantee if you’re not happy? Hmmm.

But again, thats why I was looking for people who actually have tried it, to see if it worked for them. If someone wanted to know if pheromones really work, would they ask someone who’d never tried them?

There’s nothing to read and make sense actually.. except that it’s so “new” and the info is in the book…
If you know something more, do post it.
If there is a community site like this one where people are even mentioning this method, point us to it please.
Because I didn’t see any of that. Only a couple of “testimonials”..

That’s a question of body metabolism. There is science which explains this kind of stuff. No need for metaphysical out of the box explanations.. unless his out of the box is just the same as what is currently known..

Yes… There’s also a lot of things that science as we know it today doesn’t understand… Like the effects of hypnosis as a good parallel… We don’t know how it works, or why it works. But we know its there and we know it does work. And all these supernatural things that people just don’t understand… Like why imagined stress has the same effect as real stress… Many theories, but no proven science.

Hey Acid!

I’ve googled around a little and found this blog: 2007 September | Real Body Potential

It’s written by a woman who started in Sep 07 (88 kilos then) with the Gabriel method to lose weight. By March 08 she’s been at almost 100 kilos. So she actually gained 12 kilos (26 lbs)… Of course that doesn’t mean that this method won’t work for you, but it certainly didn’t for that woman…

There’s also pseudoscience.. and bad ones at that too.. too bad when it doesn’t work. That’s why I asked you whether there’s a community of dieters so we can see if it works in practice. But there isn’t, it’s just one man who wrote an e-book and is trying to sell it online..
From what I have found out online so far, it’s an eat what you want, sit down and imagine yourself slimmer technique.. any diet without exercise should not really be called a diet I think.

It’s probably not worth the money to get it. Of course, YMMV.

Look I dont know anything about the gabriel method or what you have tried already but from what I have seen of your posts you work out and have been eating right.

Have you tried eating tiny meals on a set schedule 5 times a day instead of eating 3 larger healthy meals ?

So like if you get up at 5AM eat a tiny breakfast then at 8am have a snack then at 11am have lunch then at 2pm have a snack then at 5pm eat dinner. Keep all meals small and low carb, eat whether your hungry or not.

Real Low carb except for the meal before you work out.

Never eat a carb without a protein

This schedule will signal to your body that food is plentiful and it dosnt need to reserve that last layer of fat.

Drink alot of water to flush the fat out at least 10 glasses a day. Good for the skin to.

I know you mentioned you work out but are you getting enough cardio ? Cardio burns the fat. Make sure your working in your range. You should be winded and sweating like a pig when your working out. Make sure you cardio lasts like a hour at least. You dont start burning fat reserves till you are in cardio 30 minutes. My trainer would be so proud of me right now the evil bastard (snort)

You probably know all this but I figured I would mention it. If you do get the Gabriel method let us know how it go’s

Tisha

I think I can help some,since I lost 40 lbs since Jan/28/2008.
I have about 120 grams of protein per day, in the morning I have a protein smoothie, I never get tired of it, I mix 2%milk, yogurt, protein powder and frozen berries (I do not add ice and I add some sugar or honey, never fake sugar). I like more soy protein without flavor, I have always a protein bar for snack ( to look for a good protein bar will have for every 10 calories 1 gram of protein at the least, if the protein bar is more than 230 calories, then it is a meal and not a snack). Some vegetables, like corn is a starch, I have bread or crackers , I get whole wheat and since the carb is still there, I have a starch blocker (Theraslim) 10 minutes before I eat anything with carbs.
Like Tisha wrote above, you should drink lots os water and never have carbs/sugar (fruits=fructose) without protein.
I walk everyday 30 minutes(fast), I will swim since I lost substantial amount of weight. It is important that you do not loose muscles, the scale that I use shows me the amount of water and fat that I lost every week.

i can tell you how I went from 260 lbs to 185lbs

but it wasn’t from a diet, it was really from a lifestyle change

it is extremely hard, in fact losing in the beginning is not too bad, as you get closer to your goal it gets harder and harder, and then maintaining is the hardest thing, I lost all my weight back in 2005, it took me about 8 months total, since 2005, I have since gained 15 lbs and now back to 200 lbs

I will tell you a few keys that I did:

  1. eat many small instead of big meals

  2. drink lots of water

  3. try to eat balanced, don’t worry about low carb, or high protein unless you are into bodybuilding,

  4. key is to get your metabolism going constantly, by eating smaller meals. Once you feel you are hungry, that means your metabolism is slowing down and you stop burning fat

  5. try to eat as healthy as you can like fruits and vegetables, but do treat yourself

  6. my main trick was counting calories i looked at every single package I ate and literally kept count, i learnt a lot about serving sizes and and kept a scale to a tea. I found out a lot that in one package of food can be 2-3 serving sizes and you had no idea, they really trick you

  7. try to stay away from all fast food places, except subway, they are really great, i use to eat 6 inch subway almost everyday when I was out for lunch

  8. exercise at least 30 minutes a day if you can, but if not at least 2-3x a week, try to do something that you can do indoors, becuase if if only outdoors, when the bad weather comes, you will find an excuse not to exrcise. I find running boring as anything and does not burn a lot of calories, it is great for your heart muslces but not great for burning calories, i did exercises with dumbbells

  9. one other thing i can share, i read a study having at least 3 non fat yogurts a day helped shed tummy fat, no idea if true but i stuck to it and i love yougrt, and i stuck to dannon with splenda

  10. I tried to use everything with splenda, yes I am sure there will be a study 20 years from now splenda will cause cancer, but everything does eventually LOL

Summary: Rememeber you are not going on a diet, but making a permanent change, so that when you are counting calories you are not thinking about it but doing it, so you never go off this diet and it becomes a part of you

one last thing even if you have a bad day and mess up and go and binge, don’t worry dont give up, so what, just go right back on the horse and keep going! i messed up many times, but you just keep going!

Cheers for all the helpful advice…

I’m only doing the muscle stuff to tone up a bit. I do some cardio stuff, but only really walking (got a bunged up knee at the moment and don’t want to make it worse). Its true what they say about breakfast, even if you just at least have a healthy breakfast and something light for lunch (from what I read)…

I looked around at that Gabriel method thing. Its not just on that site, Amazon have it in hard-copy so its at least half legit (lots of crappy diets make it to hard copy). At $35 might be worth getting it just to have a good read, see what sort of stuff this guy has worked out. I mean, thinking outside of the box of what we expect can sometimes work better ‘because’ they’re thinking outside of what works and into what works best (with other stuff too, I mean). But by the same token, what works for a lot of people doesn’t work with everyone, and what doesn’t work for a lot of people some might have more success with the unorthodox methods.

Cheers for all the information.

It never hurt to look ‘outside’ the box, for some may be surprised what they might find.

Good luck then acid! Keep us up-to-date!!

Okie, I’ve started doing some of the things in the book “The Gabriel Method.” Actually, its not an e-book at all, its a proper book with a CD in the back.

In a week I’ve dropped from 93kg to 91kg… And I haven’t really changed anything, just for some reason I feel fuller sooner, not needing to eat anywhere near as much to feel full. Other than that I’m still eating pretty much the same stuff and I’m “certainly” not starving myself.

The South Beach diet is a good diet, it’s got actual evidence for it and it isn’t very restrictive. Alot of people who have trouble losing weight, according to the theory, have problems with insulin metabolism and have “pre-diabetic” conditions. I wouldn’t describe it as a low-carb diet but generally flour and potatoes aren’t on the menu, although certain kinds of pasta are acceptable.

Yeah, I’m finding with just a few minor changes recommended by this book, I’m losing weight, and winning. And I’m still eating what I feel like when I feel like. But when I do have my meals, I don’t need as much. Last night I had some rice and beef gravy thing, the night before that though I had lasagna and garlic bread, before that oven baked fish n chips. I drink my coffee with 2x sugars in it, I enjoy a bag of potato chips here and there, but I’m in front! I don’t have to fight myself to control what I eat, I don’t have to count calories or tell myself “no, I can’t eat that coz it’ll cause me to put on weight.” Its great! And I’m winning by losing weight!
