Article:
Women interested in attracting a man would be well advised to wear red - and the more red the better.
A series of studies by researchers at the University of Rochester has revealed that men are far more attracted to women in red clothing or surrounded by red accessories than females who sport other colours.
What’s more, men seem to be especially generous to the lady in red - and are more willing to open up their wallets to wine and dine her.
To measure the amorous effects of red, the researchers gauged men’s responses to pictures of women under different colour conditions.
In one experiment, the pictures were framed by a border that was either red, white, grey or green. In other tests, the researchers digitally altered the photo so that the same woman was wearing either a red or a blue shirt.
“The women shown framed by or wearing red were rated significantly more attractive and sexually desirable by men than the exact same women shown with other colours,” the researchers concluded in their study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
Psychology professor Andrew Elliot, who led the research, noted that throughout history many cultures have linked sex with the colour red, ranging from ancient peoples who used ochre body paints on fertile females to modern-day “red-light” districts.
But Dr. Elliot speculated that men’s response to red may also have deep biological roots that go beyond a learned cultural response.
The sexual parts of female baboons and chimpanzees take on a conspicuously red hue when they are reaching ovulation. In similar fashion, many human females will become flush-faced when they are interested in a male, Dr. Elliot said.
“It may well be that males have this deep-seated sense of red indicating sexual availability,” he speculated. “I think females can use that to their advantage - and to wear it or not, depending on their desires.”
Still, it could take more than a red dress to win over a reluctant male. Red did not change the way men rated the women in terms of likeability, intelligence or kindness - just their physical attractiveness.
It’s well known cops disproportionately target red cars for speeding tickets, so extra attention isn’t always a good thing.
I prefer women with dark hair, skin and clothing. I’m drawn to a tiny black dress like a fly to poop. Real dad burn sucker. On the other hand, the little red dress seems to confuse me. Why? Ah dunno but perhaps bright colors like red draw attention away from the main event, i.e., the natural beauty of the woman. Instead of focusing on her, you see the friggen dress. Good diversion if gettin’ old 'm moldy but steer clear of flashing neon lights if you still got it.
That’s a really lame explanation and a stretch for humans. I love pussy as much as the next guy but seeing a red purse or shoes ain’t gonna ring mah bell or get me thinking about red monkey parts…
well i dont really care bout tha color if reds ur color than ur gonna look good in it but i no that sum chicks look bad in red so i think its all how u act an carry ur self i personally like purple of a lady shows ur different
That is so interesting. I prefer to wear dark red tops most of the time and I really like red tops on guys too But tops are the only limit to me, I don’t know about wearing a red casual dress (but then if it was a gown I would consider it)
But yes, reps to you for sharing this article!
lol, that is so true! I’ve witnessed many red car’d drivers getting tickets lol!
I think it’s supposed to be one of them evolutionary subconscious kinda things. Like when women lean forward they’re displaying their vulnerability by exaggerating their neck as much as they are showing their sexual abundance by showing off their breasts. You don’t think “oooh she’s vulnerable” but you realize the “tell” on a subconscious level.
I have the same dress in black and red…and seriously I get WAY more attention when I wear the red one! When I walk into a club wearing the red dress…I feel like the whole place is watching me! As it so happens - red is my favourite colour and it suits me! People always tell me that I should wear red more!
Also, I often socialise with my cousin and his friends - and they always comment on the red dress when I wear it. It actually makes him kinda uncomfortable because I get so much attention and he feels like he has to mind me! I never fail to get noticed when I wear it… pair it with some EOW and i’m in for a crazy crazy night!
Whenever I want to dominate the scene … I wear a red shirt.
It’s been around for ages. I ‘THINK’ if you google something like, ‘COLORS AND EMOTIONS’ you may be able to pull it up. It will tell you which colors trigger which emotion.
To me, the color RED is like LARGE breast … it catches the eye; and even thought I AM NOT a LARGE breast man, large boobs just MAKES me look.
Not surprising.
I had a deep red manicure awhile back. I was sitting in the lounge at work and was looking at my nails, then looked up and noticed a male colleague catch site of my nails with a DIHL look, then look at me with the same look. It was crazy and I don’t think that I had any kind of mones or perfumes on.
So, even small amounts is clearly attractive to some men.
I love color and work with it almost everyday. It’s an integral part of what I do for a living.
With my dark hair and light skin tone, I can wear red and it looks good on me. I’ve got the right coloring/attitude to carry it off without it looking like it’s wearing me. I’m careful where I wear it because color can have a strong impact on mood/emotions and red can be intimidating. Yes, red is a power color and there are times when I purposefully wear it to my advantage. Like to a meeting when I want all eyes on me. Or at a party, especially if I’m the hostess, or anytime I want to stand out from the crowd. Although I might be more careful wearing it somewhere if I anticipate a debate/conflict of any sort, don’t wanna raise anyones blood pressure!
Prison walls are sometimes painted pink. If you want to soften up someone/make them weak, wear pink!
I have to be in the mood to wear red. Sometimes, I’m just not up to it but it’s great to wear and makes me feel good when I’m feelin’ my oats! Although there are times when I’d never wear red because I think it’s inappropriate. You won’t see me in red at a funeral or other solemn occasion. I know when I wear it, it will draw attention. So, unless I’m up to being a distraction or considered one, I prefer more subtle colors.
I can wear a lot of different colors successfully if they’re in bright/deep/rich tones and neutrals also work well on me. Those tones complement my coloring much better than pastels. I’m also a fan of black because everything goes with it. Red&black together is very striking/dramatic.
When it comes to clothes, you can trick the eye with color. Women who are aware of how this works can use it to their advantage to streamline/pull together their look. I’m petite and have spacial tricks, with color/cut, to make me look taller. I do it all the time. Unless you’re standing next to me, I appear taller than the almost 5’3" I am, lol.
Speaking of tricking the eye… if she’s wearing a red blouse, they’ll look even LARGER!
Warm colors appear larger/closer than cool colors. You can use highly saturated/high-intensity colors (a pure hue with no other colors mixed in) or busily detailed areas/patterned clothing to draw attention and therefore give the appearance of carrying more “weight” than less saturated/low-intensity/visually simpler areas. So, yes, the savage yabos do appear larger when wearing a red blouse (works with yellow/orange too).
Ladies, stay away from red pants if you’re concerned about accenting your (overly) ample booty… or wear them to show off your fabulous junk in the trunk, if you dare! If you want an area to recede/look smaller, wear cool colors like blue and green and, of course, black is great for shrinkage. Guys, stay away from black briefs, lol.
For women who’d like to wear red but have a hard time with it, I suggest using it as an accent piece rather than as the main attraction. A red purse/scarf or a pair of red gloves/shoes can effectively perk up an outfit and draw attention without overwhelming you or coming on too strong.
I can see your point, G, but the chimp/baboon analogy really has nutin’ to do with purses or shoes. It’s all about lips/red lipstick! It works on the same principle to attract the human male just as "The sexual parts of female baboons and chimpanzees take on a conspicuously red hue when they are reaching ovulation" to attract their males. The female breast also swells when we’re in “heat”. Read The Naked Ape by Desmond Morris, it explains everything.
If you can carry it off, red lipstick is very eye catching/alluring. Men can’t take their eyes off red lips, whether they want to look or not, lol. They can’t seem to help it. Personally, I love a hot matte orangey red on blondes. Brunettes can take more of a range of reds. I think a deep red or plummy/vampy red can look smashing on a sultry brunette. If you want to go for the color but are a bit unsure of getting away with it, or have a thinner lip-shape, you can just use a gloss in the middle of your lip, instead, which you can blend out with your finger/brush. This gives a much softer appearance to the lip while you still get a nice pop of color!
Well, maybe not but it’s a foot in the door! If you’re physically attractive to a man then he’s more likely to be interested in finding out if you are actually likeable, intelligent and kind.
I would say the red thing works on me in a way, not exactly red but hot pink or pink in general. If I see a girl in a pink shirt or with her nails painted pink I always seem to notice her more. Throw in some blonde hair and as long as she is attractive she will drive me nuts all night.
Dang, bella you’re so lucky! I wish I could pull off the colour red, it’s my favourite colour.
When I wear red I look like I dipped myself in blood or a sporty gal lol… it never looks good on me other than lipstick and nail polish… But those two are pretty universal. Sigh…
