And why should it surprise us that the main thing that’s on the minds of youngdudez is sex? Besides, for youngdudez sex can be a door that opens onto much else. It can be The Door that leads to everything else. For proof of this, visit nearly any commentsthread at Roissy’s. Watch how quickly a lot of them turn into wideranging discussions about race, politics, the future, life generally … For the guys who are hooked by Game, pickup isn’t just about pickup, apparently. It’s about much, much else too.
Incidentally, one thing that’s fairly amazing about the Game phenom is how it can and has become an entire worldview. F. Roger Devlin is clearly an inspiration to some Gamesters (and seems knowledgeable about Game himself), and a guy who uses the handle Whiskey over at Roissy’s has elaborated a way of interpreting virtually everything in the cosmos via the lens of Game. I don’t buy this story entirely, but I’m certainly impressed by it. It’s a genuine alternative to the PC brainwashings that society has subjected the youngdudez to. Is it entirely satisfying in terms of its content? I don’t think so. But as a general account of life it’s a lot more in-the-ballpark than what they’ve been exposed to up till now.
…
I’m semi-serious when I compare Game to the early days of the hippie movement and / or Solidarity, by the way …
I think game represents a turn in the way men act towards just about everything. I learned growing up that there was a ‘way’ things happened. after learning about the game, my world view changed tremendously. I’m thankful for it.
Ever read any of the Generations books by Neil Howe and/or William Strauss? These guys take a very wide multi-generational look at social trends. Looked at from this perspective these movements make a ton of sense and are really predictable. Howe predicted the Iraq war (and got the timing almost perfect), the current economic difficulties, and the current social movements - years before they commenced.
I highly recommend their works, Generations; The Fourth Turning; 13th Gen: Abort, Retry, Ingore, Fail?; and Millennials Rising.
They predicted that Gen X’rs (born 1960-1980) would raise their children in traditional values. Surrounded by those in power who were the former hippy movement, who would provide very little in the way of succor or help to their children (and the hippy’s grand-children), Gen X’rs become disillusioned and turn their backs on the “Free Love”, foundationless trip dreams of their parents. Gen X’rs raise the next Hero Generation - the Millennials. The Hero geration is always about getting back to the basics of human dignity and decency. They ask for little and give much, are ultra-responsible, and are the foundational generation.
These works only apply to US generations, but they found similar trends in other societies.
Yes, v interesting work. Seems to me it is happening a bit late vs Strauss & Howe schedule, but we are seeing the beginning of a turn in the nine year and thirty year materialism vs spirituality cycles (discussed by other writers). In a sense Roissy et al really are radically conservative in outlook.
Generational movements are really binomial, looking at when these children are born and growing up, raising families and such; and when they come into power. Right now Gen X’rs are coming into power, and the hippies are leaving power. Millenials (born 1980-2000) won’t get their real chance at molding society until they come into power in their forties and fifties, but the direction of their movements start when they are in their twenties and thirties… like right now.
