It touches on topics but it’s more about his personal journey then it is in depth on the techniques. It’s a small step in the right direction. Even after learning a variety of methods, material etc, it becomes more about experience, intuition, calibration, perseverance, and becoming naturalistic.
What I’ve learned out of this book is basically that I don’t ever want to become one of the PUA society - at least not in the way the ‘heroes’ in this book are.
You’ll find out after reading “The Game” that most of what is entailed is old school - it’ll get you going in the right direction, but the ‘community’ has evolved substantially since it hit the shelves. Most guys think that if they learn a few magic tricks, become an NLP Practitioner, and say hello to a few chicks, that it will place them on a pedestal for all women to devour. What ‘The Game’ does is show you that “picking up women” isn’t like playing the lottery, but more like playing poker, or chess. NLP is probably the most useful information that I got out of the book, but only because it has pointed me in the direction to self-improvement, and into working out the “inner-game” issues that has haunted me for some time. Don’t get me wrong, though - learning NLP alone is NOT the way to go in obtaining women. You have to get on track to becoming a better man. “The Game” will show you the ways a lot of men have tried it and have succeeded, and also how they have failed miserably. You will need to venture out onto other various forums, websites, and other material to really get the gist of this in a nutshell.
BubbleBob is on the same page i am. The whole PUA thing feels distasteful. I dont want to treat women like pinball machines and if i hit the right levers i get a prize. Thats just too dehumanizing. Even David DeAngelos stuff seems as though it works but i would rather make myself better and more confident than check for weak spots in a womans defenses. Women do it too but that doesnt make it ethical.
I agree with you Tatter I try not to get dragged into using tricks or games to gain or maintain interest prefering to just be genuine with people. Sometimes it works and sometimes I get messed about but at least I’m sticking to my principles. Grats on your journal by the way I laughed that much I nearly choked on my coffee.
I’m scratching my head wondering how you could discount material that will potentially help you evolve as a person, yet wear pheromones as an edge in your social interactions. I completely understand your intentions, but I think your scope of the “PUA” scene is a bit vague, and even your reasoning for using pheromones - and, don’t try to pawn off the argument that pheromones aren’t intended to be used to enhance sexuality, and the potential for a sexual encounter, because it’s evident perusing these forums alone that that claim holds no weight.
Thanks salsaguy. Normally when people laugh at Tater until they choke they arent that grateful.
mindset, theres a difference. Tater does pretty well without pheromones, even the occasional elusive redhead. im an intense social butterfly. But i (a) have friends who are very socially shy, (b) want to know all about this stuff since it works and (c) like making people feel good. I like drawing shy people into me so i can encourage them…or at least get a better shot at their biscuits.
I’m more fascinated with the whole socialite aspect of it. Like how you the truly experienced can potentially open an entire group then saunter off to another and then just merge them. Majority of the canned material is pretty lame and played out to death.
On a whole, I’ve had more success being in tune with myself and completely insulting and putting down PUA during a Pick up then actually using it. It’s hilarious how well it works.
“See that guy over there with the deck of cards performing that card trick to that bimbo? He read a book and watched a DVD and now he thinks he’s a pickup artist. If that girl is dumb as fuck, she will actually let him fuck her.”
This actually occured by chance once. I was chattin up this fine female while there was some guy opening with a dumbassed card trick across the room. I think if you were to get a wingman really willing to bite a bullet for ya you could probably recreate the bit. Again for me, it was just purely by chance and it was awesome at this poor guy’s expense.
Absolutely concur with your assessment regarding canned material, however, you’ll be amazed on how many people are NOT familiar with the 9/11 conspiracy theories, which are rampant online, and in everyday conversation. This is relevant only because it shows that regardless of mainstream exposure, people are generally consumed with themselves quite literally, and are completely oblivious to their surroundings. Most people who go to club outings ARE looking for sex, anyways, so it’s not like a guy who performs a couple card tricks is really doing anything different than what you were doing - and, that was simply keeping your “target” in tune with what you had to say. In other words, you didn’t bore her. If you have the balls to approach, and the personality to keep her entertained, then the chances of you taking a broad home is already high.
As someone already mentioned, I found The Game an excellent look into the Journey of one man, and through his eyes, a group of men, as they collectively pondered (and cracked the code to) one of the worlds previously great mysteries…women.
If you are discerning, you will pick up that the community is filled with people as varyingly different as those of a college campus, or corporate building, except that these people have come together for one main thing, and one thing only, and that is to learn how to get laid more than they ever have been before in their entire lives.
You’ll pick up that some do good, other’s are great, and the sacrifices made in exchange for bettering oneself in this area, for good or ill, are real indeed.
You’ll see and feel the author’s experience, and if you choose, you can apply similar actions in your life. As a member here mentioned briefly, if your thing is “ethics”, well, you probably need not apply to learning pick-up. That’s not to say that PUA’s aren’t ethical, but you’ll see in the book, that “ethics” are what you make them to be. You’ll realize this more when you see female’s behave similarly, though they may not tell you. In the end, personally “Leave her better than you found her” is my only rule. Everything else is bogus. You can pick that up from the book too.
You’ll learn that in considering pick-up, you’ll need to consider other parts of your life and take care of them, and sacrifice those parts that don’t mesh with your new chosen pursuit.
And, as noted by another member’s post here, you’ll notice that in pick up, there are those who are not in any way, shape, or form happy at all about PUA’s, or the community, but instead of being content in their own life, they will Hate on You. (Official Game Killer’s, lol!)
I will say that before I read the book, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. After reading it however, I came to respect my own Journey, recognize potential pitfalls, adapt certain character flaws, and actually admire the ingenuity of a group of men who decided that living out the kind of life that They want, no matter what, was important above all. It sometimes amazes me that people don’t see that, considering here in the U.S.A., we live in a Capitalistic society driven by the achievements of the individual…but I digress (and am really tired right now, lol!)
In any case bro, your game won’t improve by reading this book, or any for that matter. You WILL get a clearer idea of what YOU want to do in this area, and therefore you will be able to figure the next steps on your own. The resources are available, and of course you have you, the person actually DOing something.
In short, The Game is a great Map. As a story, it is bar none wonderful. Enjoy it, and enjoy your own Journey.
I find the discussion above to cover some interesting ground. The whole thread is worth a read, but partic MHarris post reposted below
Re: Neil Strauss “The Game” - a fascinating read!
The modern techniques of “game” work, especially on younger women that respond almost exclusively to social posturing. With modern game, you can consciously hit the hot buttons that “jerks” have accidentally.
The current “state of the art” in “game” is the start of something better than what you see today. You guys do see how complex and formulaic today’s “game” is, right? It’s mostly empowering what used to be called “nerds”… you know, the guys with big brains and whale sized attention spans. Truly wonderful, high value men whom, in a perfect world, would be getting all the girls… but simply weren’t.
In fact, you can literally think of this as the movie “Revenge of the Nerds” come true.
Now the good guys have tools to gain access to what was simply given to meaningless meatheads – the jerks and abusive nutbags that girls LOGICALLY knew they shouldn’t be attracted to, but EMOTIONALLY were, despite logic. For the most part, “Game” today is a good thing. It allows what are mostly intelligent men to be just as brilliant with women as they are with computers, finance and other serious topics.
Any tool could be considered manipulative. I think it has a lot to do with who’s using it and why. While these guys talk a “big game” (male bravado), most eventually want a girlfriend or wife. Noble goals. Both Eric Markovich (Mystery) and Neil Strauss have gotten “one-itis” for what they perceive to be the “end all, be all” woman (what Eric once called “the one”).
So what’s the worst that’s going to come from computer programmers and other good guys learning some socials skills (and yes, a few “tricks”)? Women of tommorow will end up with more warm, loving providers? Prove to me that this is a bad thing.
To me, it makes for a brighter tommorow… with less children that have scumbags for dads. (if you don’t know who donates most of the sperm to make most the kid’s in the world, dig into anthropology and evolutionary psychology a little. Start with David Buss’ book “Evolution of Desire”) What may seem like a sort of superficial system on the outside, actually makes for some substantial world improvement in action, folks. It’s not as bad as it seems, when used by decent men.
My comments about Neil above mostly had to do where where and with whom he consorts. I think he’s been dealing with so many empty people in LA, that this otherwise fascinating man with so much to offer, has started to lose his faith in humanity and womankind. That is then leading to his misapplication of these tools, to waste time with women who really aren’t worth it.
Gem, thanks for the comment about Tyler. Maybe a less than happy Neil Strauss is now becoming his own made up, politicized version of Tyler? I’d like meet the real Tyler someday.

**We’re still at the very beginning of pheromone technology. This is a real frontier and we’re all pioneers here (congratulations!) **
Theories are great, but even the most scientifically sound ones can influence and distort our perception of reality. Let’s remain outcome neutral, and stick as closely as possible to the “Test first, describe later” principle. Honest & accurate information is the only thing that will push pheromone technology forward.
Three notes: 1) The first and most important rule of this forum, is to be kind to others, unless they first insult you personally. If you must initiate aggression, be aggressively nice.2) Remember that most people mean well! Since you can’t see facial expressions online, read their words in an upbeat voice tone. It helps. 3) I am currently too busy to accept or respond to PMs (private messages). For help, please give us a call at 800-671-6464 in North America, or +01 425-786-2001 internationally.

Eric a.k.a. Disco We’ve just met. We’re toward the end of our first drink, sitting in this bar.
I’ve been bantering with her a little. Connecting with her a little. A little bit of kino on the arm.
Then I drop all conversation. I could continue to banter or connect, but I don’t. Instead I just sit there and look her in the eye.
I don’t care if it makes her uncomfortable or makes her feel like she has to say something. I’m not smiling. The tension begins to build.
“Let’s get out of here,” I say as I grab her hand and stand up.
“I’m not finished with my drink,” she says.
“I don’t care,” I respond.
We walk out the door of the bar down a long empty hallway that leads to the street. Before we get to the door that leads to the street I grab her hand and push her up against the wall.
She’s looking at me like a deer in headlights. She’s ready to be kissed.
I move in toward her lips. I don’t kiss her but barely graze them as I start to kiss her on the neck, my hands running up her jeans, then around her waist.
I grab her hair with one hand, push her back against the wall and start to bite her neck. She gasps and pulls me toward her.
A moment later, not having kissed her, I turn and grab her hand and say “let’s go.”
We walk back to my apartment, hand-in-hand. She doesn’t know where we’re going until we get there. I won’t tell her.
The keys come out of my pocket and we walk in the foyer of the five-floor walk-up. Turn the corner up the first flight of the brightly lit staircase.
Again, up against the wall. She feels my mouth on her neck and my hands scraping up her jeans. Anyone could see us if they walked out of their apartment.
She wants to kiss me but I won’t. I pull her up the stairs by the hand instead.
We get to my front door and I push her up against the wall. I bite her ear and then whisper “You can’t come in, that would be bad.”
“Okay,” she barely murmurs, my body pressed against hers.
I pull back and unlock the door. I pull her into the apartment. I walk her into the bedroom.
She is in front of me facing away as I put my arms around her waist. I dip my hands into the front of her jeans, into her panties. She turns to me to be kissed.
Our open mouths meet.
She’s soaking wet.
My tongue sinks into her waiting mouth as we fall to the bed.
