It may not be clinical depression, but you certainly seem down. Move around more, go for a long walk each day that should help. Also make sure your nutrition is right…
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll see if wanna my friends won’t mind taking a walk with me since the neighborhoods where I live are a lil sketchy.
I try to keep my nutrition as healthy as possible. Eating my greens and eating plenty of fish (at least once a week). No fast food. I think the major contributor here is not talking to the guy I really care about cus he’s out doing his own thing with his this new girl. I’m trying not to let it affect me, but being alone and doing boring homework really gets you thinking… sigh
No parks or anything near you? If walking’s not safe, maybe hit the gym and lift some weights. I know women typically don’t lift weights, but they still need to. Good for your bones. ![]()
Idk, not a big fan of the gym. I do keep active tho. Not as much as I like to, but I do like the suggestions. Exercising is a great way to kill depression, so I’ve heard.
I have found that supplementing with Vitamin D seems to help my mood too… makes sense, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) happens when there’s not a lot of sunlight to make vitamin D… so try a bit of D and B vitamins, even if your diet is good if your digestion is not right or you’re missing certain vitamins.
Thanks. I’ll be sure to get ahold of some D and B vitamins. It’s been really cloudy lately so that could be part of it.
THis is going to sound Odd, but the number one cause of depression is dehydration. You need to drink water and lots of it. Water does not include coffee, soda, beer, or tequila. It means water.
If you don’t like water get some juice flavoring and spice it up, but drink water and use Ishine too.
That makes a lot of sense, especially if this is a seasonal depression. I’ll try to drink as much water as possible. Usually water, juice and very lil milk is all I drink because I’m trying to regulate my acne.
And IShine is a good idea too. I’ll need to spray a bit on later. Totally forgot it as I rushed out the door this morning. Had the weirdest dream about my ex and it’s really bugging me. I think it might be telling me to stop talking to him, but Idk..
Also I’m picking up some Vitamin D and B this weekend, but until then I’m gonna try to eat a lot of fish and whatever else has vitamin D in it.
A friend of mine was gonna go walking with me today, but the winds really picked up and it’s so cold. I did make an effort to walk across campus to my farthest class tho instead of driving. Thankfully the sun peaked out for that brief time I was walking.
Thanks all who gave me suggestions. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated ![]()
You know, I think this just may be grief. You don’t just feel grief when someone you know dies, you feel grief whenever something you were holding on to is lost. You can even feel grief when you lose a cherished possession. This guy was very important to you, a big part of your life, and now he’s not part of it now, and this pain is part of the adjustment period.
The good news is, grief passes. Sometime, something will go “click” for you and you will be able to talk to this guy without feeling pain, it will be something distant for you. The fact you had this “weird dream” is IMO evidence that your mind is already working this out for itself, the resolution process has begun. So I think all you need to do is keep your chin up, keep taking care of yourself and when it hurts remind yourself it’s only temporary. That was my strategy for dealing with chemotherapy years back, the chemo had rather nasty effects on my body and my mother reminded me that it was only temporary, eventually it would all be just a bad memory. And she was right. So Kitsune, this pain you are feeling now will go away, and eventually it’ll just be a memory of something that happened once, without much emotion attached to it at all.
Take care of yourself, OK? ![]()
You could be right. I just couldnt ignore the symptoms and having someone tell me I had it who’s dealt with it for years really made me wonder.
But I do agree one day these things do click. It’s just sad It’s gone on this long (2+ yrs) and I still haven’t gotten over him. Sometimes I feel in a way that he’s a lot different than the others I’ve dated and supposedly loved. I guess I just had the most expectations about him because he was so close to what I wanted in a guy if not nearly perfect. I would have married him in a heartbeat, that’s how strongly I felt. And now it’s just kinda sad that we’re both turning in a different direction. But I’m just gonna trust that this path I take will eventually lead to something better. Whatever it is
I was with one of my ex’s for 3 years (about 4 if you count the times we were on again off again). We were engaged and I honestly thought I was going to marry him. When it ended it was horrible for me. It took me a year and a half or so to start dating again and about 2 1/2 years for that click to come for me, but it did. Sort of like freedom or a breath of fresh air. I know exactly what tezza23 is talking about. I am at a place in my life where I have so much going for me now I am glad it happened. (now anyway) I have met some really amazing men. When I thought it couldn’t get much better from my ex. It took awhile, but it happened. For a long time I kept comparing everyone to him even though I knew it wasn’t right to do that. My ex never would have done that or he would have done this etc. Ok i’m rambling now! I hope this helps in some small way!
Since I suffer from depression and anxiety (at the moment grief still over my mom’s death) I can tell you from experience that being alone and isolating yourself from sights, sounds, and people will make you feel worse in one way or another. Worse than being alone, but of course some alone time is OK too, since we all need our “me” time but you need to balance it out as sometimes being around people or social situations can make you feel depressed as well or irritated. So what I’m basically trying to say is try to balance me time with going out and keeping yourself around sights, sounds, and people to help keep you “sane.”
There’s a reason why jails have the “black hole,” as it serves the purpose of punishment and possibly driving someone mad. So try to surround yourself with positive people, not people who don’t have your best interest at heart. So family, good friends, or good people in general is advised. Try to also watch a funny movie, go to a comedy show, or watch stuff on TV that makes you laugh. Laughing makes you feel good, at least I know that it makes me feel a bit better so I urge you to do and/or watch stuff that will make you laugh.
Yeah, I agree on the being social and balancing it out thing. Last night I had some friends over for most of the night. These are really good friends who I can be myself around, but for some reason while I was doing homework with them still there my hard started racing and I felt like I had to run or scream. It felt like a panic attack and I had no idea where it had come from. It stuck with me the entire night even though on of my girl friends stayed over. I ended up not getting to sleep till 6am… and that was because I took a tylenol PM.
Got a text at 3am from the ex tho. I guess he had seen my status about something being wrong and wanted to know what was wrong. I was wide awake so I texted back, but got no response. Hate that. So I tried to sleep. But it’s so hard when you’re waiting for someone to text you back. Finally he did at 4 and I ended up getting him to just call me so we could talk and I wouldn’t have to wait around for texts and wonder if he had fallen asleep. After I talked to him for almost an our and laughed and shared some stuff I felt a lot better. I think the laughter and talking to him really relaxed me. I would have been able to sleep except my head was hurting. So finally I got some water, took some tylenol and soon fell asleep.
I still can’t think of any other reason for this insomnia and paranoia except my time of the month and this thing with my ex. Normally my symptoms are flip flopped. Normally I sleep too much.. this time it’s not enough.
I have been watching plenty of South Park tho and other funny shows and been going to classes and hanging with friends so I get interaction everyday. And on the weekends it’s either parties or going home to my family which is always nice.
Just wish this dark cloud wouldn’t keep pulling me down tho. Just when I think I’m getting out and being more positive it sucks me back in.
Yeah, I’ve been there where I upgraded significantly in men and I thought the guy I had previously been with was who I wanted to marry. Of course I was young and naive, and I think it was just puppy love. It took me about 6 months to get over him, but that was with the help of a new boyfriend. And when I say new boyfriend this was the second bf I had had after my puppy love ex. So it took a while for me to find the guy I thought could be better than my last ex.
Now it’s taken more more than 2 years to get over my last ex and I still haven’t moved on.
In a way I do compare every guy to my ex, but not in a bad sense. I only compare the qualities in him that I want in every man. Like for instance: being a christian, having good humor, able to protect me, smart/witty, romantic.
If I went around comparing every guy I dated to him fully or close to his personality I’d get: sarcastic, ginger, hot headed, prideful
No, definitely gotten over that stage, if I was ever in it. I have gone through this before with my other ex tho so I know what you mean.
Well, that’s the thing. It’s not an easy task, it’s easy for me to give you this advice but I will admit it when I say that it’s just as hard for me to take my own advice and run with it. So you’re not alone with this feeling, but I will tell you that if you have access to therapy be it by a school counselor or whatever do it. It helps talking to a therapist especially if he’s a real good one who is also a good listener. If you’re shy about it, don’t be. You’d be amazed just how great it is to have someone listen to you and give you some advice on how to cope or deal with things.
Got in a “surprise” package today that I’ve been lovingly calling my survival pack… and he’s why.
Got a bottle of IShine 4x. Perfect for my low feelings I’ve been getting recently. I already tried some out and it worked great to rid me of my tiredness and made me feel happy and confident with just one spritz ![]()
Next, got some CTTM2 which I have been dying to try out and I think is perfect for my situation now because I want to be as social as I can and have meaningful conversations so I don’t fall back into loneliness.
And last, a free gift of Spaceland which I’ve heard helps people sleep. I’m gonna try it out tonight if I have anymore problems. Should help scatter my thoughts and get me to relax a little.
Also, as a side note I sniffed my lil bottle of Meo-EST last night and was overcome by this blanket of warmth that felt amazing and really made me feel so comfortable. I’d of fallen asleep if I hadn’t of gotten that text x.x
I believe a big thanks to Steve is in order for my survival pack, and if I’m wrong please correct me. But I really am appreciative of this. I feel so blessed to have received this. Thank you so much
You are amazing!
True. The thing I’ve shared with everyone this problem with my ex for over 2 yrs now. And I think most every person has heard the story and followed it up to this point or think they’ve followed it. It would be nice to talk to someone, but only if they weren’t biased and if they could let me come up with my own conclusion with minimal help. I’m tired of people telling me don’t do this or that. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t talk much to people any more and usually solve all my problems myself. Or if I ask other people I try not to let their words influence me unless I see it as a right direction to go.
So before I got into this funk I’ve been going through for a week now I’d been listening to a motivational pastor who was very positive and I decided to be positive myself. Well this grief or depression or whatever it was didn’t really help, but somehow I was able to stay positive is certain areas. And happy to report that I’ve been noticing a lot more things going my way lately. I won’t share them all, but one in particular happened today.
You see I had lost my flash drive after I left the lab tuesday and with little to no worry thought to myself “God will take care of it.”
Today I received an email from a lady. Apparently someone had found my flash drive and she was holding it. I was so thankful and felt so blessed. Just thought I’d share. I know it’s something small, but it’s nice to see things going your way when all you changed was your perspective on life ![]()
yay That’s great
I recently had an expensive (200 worth of stuff I bought myself so I could have a christmas) package stolen while I was sick. I was pretty bummed! After I got better I got in touch with the company, and I am still going to get my package! All except 1 item that had been discontinued but it was something small and they replaced it with something else. I am SO glad!
That’s great! ![]()
It’s stuff like that that really make you feel like you can get further in life and that life can be something great, and not just struggles.
