i probably should have sprayed the tester from barneys right on on the Ajmal musk to cover it on my finger but i did one spray on each hand, back of palm, and wrist, so 4 sprays total
I am too paranoid to wear this in public again to be honest…I am trying to think what would be good to layer this with, problem is if i dont like it i cannot even scrub it off LOL
I only spent $42 with shipping I think so no biggie…I knew I was taking a chance but I had to try it after reading about it..so no biggie..
BTW on another note Duro is really nice..but expensive…$148 for 30ml…if it was cheaper I would pick it up, absinthe I did not like…and silver musk is nice but very light..and straight to heaven I like a lot I might pick up the travel sprays for $70
You might try mixing small amounts with other components and exploring the effects in that diluted form. It may surprise you. For an idea of the approach, look at my journal for perfume#1.
Yeah, it’s OK denec. I think I’m going to give this the boot and just leave it in my drawer. Oh, well! It’s OK though, I also wanted to try it so no biggie here either.
However, GWTW brings up an idea. I wonder how it’ll be to drop a drop or two of Musk Ghazelle into some PA with a couple of drops of sandalwood or vanilla EO. Throw in those basenotes, then possibly also add some middle notes and bergamot for a top note. I wonder if the Musk Ghazelle will be drowned out, but enough to show some flavor and actually make it smell good.
If i try this (which, to be honest, i probably will… got some of all of that laying around), i’m sure as ALL HELL going to make sure to do this outside. I played with the MG and sandalwood yesterday, as i said, and i had to open both windows and take out the trash (used pipette) in order to START getting rid of the scent. It actually gave me a headache. So be warned, people, this is serious stuff.
Well, despite what i said earlier, i just couldn’t help myself… i just HAVE to see if i can work with this AA Musk Ghazelle. So what i have brewing right now is:
3.5 drops of Ajmal AA Musk Ghazelle
20 drops Sandalwood oil
20 drops Vanilla EO
2/3 mL Perfumer’s Alcohol
I took the mixture i’d made earlier (3.5 drops MG and 10 drops Sandalwood) and added to it, hoping the sweet vanilla and creamy sandalwood could help balance that animalic nature out. Can the beast be tamed? Who knows. I’ll fill ya’ll in when i’ve let this sit for awhile and mix properly, then ima test it out.
Edit: Yeah, so i took this a bit far. I MAY actually need to add another drop of Ajmal MG to sort out this sweetness. I added a drop of Cedar Musk, though, to see how that does. If i get this to be somewhat decent, i will be super proud of myself. Just can’t go overboard with the MG, since now i WILL NOT use more sandalwood.
Yeah, I’m on a similar path. I’m formulating a mix using the following ingredients:
Agar Musk Black w/ Cambodian Oudh
Ajmal AA Musk Ghazelle
Organic Bourbon Vanilla CO2 Total
Bergamot (Bergaptene Free)
Tonka Bean Absolute
Tobacco Absolute
I’m still figuring out what else to add to the mix. I’m hoping to achieve a blend of my favorite scents: Agar Musk Black layered with Earl Grey Tea, Vanilla, and Royal Vintage Black Cavendish (my favorite pipe tobacco). They all seem to be cohesive scents, I just need some finishing touches. I hear of perfume notes like Cognac, whiskey, and rum, but I can’t seem to find where to get anything like that. Rum would be perfect. I also want to find something that smells like black tea, to complete my earl grey scent.

Back to the thread topic, I’m testing out the MG again. Used the entire applicator wand spread on my forearms… I’m trying to pinpoint certain notes. I’m getting over a cold, and I can’t smell anything fecal. Which is odd… And a good thing, since I paid money for this stuff… all I can smell is fresh leather, sweating in the hot summer sun, brand new tires, new car smell, a used shammy cloth, and, oddly enough, petroleum? Oh my God. I smell like Nascar. Thank God I’m home alone tonight. Its time to get another beer and wash this off.
The more I wear this, the less fecal it smells. I think I’m starting to grow fond of this stuff… its a love-hate relationship. Its like that ex-girlfriend who keeps coming back for sex and, as much as you hate her, you can’t turn her down.
I think you might be getting used to it and that is great but i still wonder how others think of it

I have to say since i got it and only been a few days even though it is in a closed bottle in the little bag it is starting to stink up my office in home
it not horrible but i smell traces of it when i get home and got into into my computer room it is that strong…at this point i am thinking of just giving it away
Yeah I don’t blame you. I was thinking that too in the beginning, and didn’t think I’d continue to experiment with it. I myself have never smelled anything like it before. That might be part of what draws me to it. I was hoping (based on your description of the previous version) that this new version would be just like it or better. Still disappointed about that. Why discontinue a product that people are going above and beyond to try and get?
Its not something I want to wear (noticeably) when I go out into public around a lot of people, especially in a Western society that is unaccustomed to foreign scents. It’d be like wearing a heavy metal band shirt in church. I think it can be tamed though. I dunno if anyone kept this on their skin long enough to let it dry down, but there are some dry-down notes that are very mysterious, mildly sweet, and alluring. My goal is to make a blend and have top and mid notes cover the MG until it dries down.
Is this the same one that Revivia sent me a sample of? It totally smelled like stinky unwashed poopy butt crack, lol. Sorry, Revivia, but thanks for sharing with me, I do appreciate it And though you wanted me to make a report on it, I don’t think I could wear it long enough, lol. I did put a little on, and did give it the good old college try, but then I had to wash it off. And even when I washed it off, I could still smell it.
