Now, just to get this out of the way… What do you envision happening if you approach him sans mones? What would likely happen? I mean, you KNOW what he likes to see, what you wear and how to talk to him, you know, 1 1/2 years, you do pick up more than you realize, ESPECIALLY, you Women who have an additional sixth sense of these things, even the Geeky types.. 
Look, you do care for the guy, you’ve learned from your mistakes, and you’ve realized that you may be the only one doing the learning here. You don’t want to shut him off and even with the possibility, you don’t want to try it, that is the IS/b.
I would be much more inclined, if you must apply a mone, keep it to a IO and/or IShine just so that the friendly, open communication can flow so you can be SURE about this relationship before making a decision and moving on, with him or without because you’ll have accepted whatever happens.
