Dude that sucks a macbook maybe it deserves to be thrown in the water it’s a MAC after all Just kidding I feel for you buddy, let it Dry and try to salvage it if you can, let’s just hope it was insured or has a warranty but I doubt it will help because it was an accident
I do hope you saved all your passwords for all your forums thats going to be a pain if you lost everything.
I hope you feel better maybe your big bro can get a Job and buy you a new one
im being a supportive big bro and letting him use my mac occasionally.
it a very long story bout wat happened… something valuable fell and someone tried to catch it from falling, could get it and it smashed, shattered and a piece of it shot out and hit someone in the leg and they… long story short… the person freaked out, and was pissed that no one was helping her and throw the chair out of the way that had the laptop on it… and the mac bounced and went into the pool freak accident
hi all, took me a bit to actually find this thread i started, it disappeared, now i understand what happened.
TY all of you guys for the support and sincerity its really to bad that right as im about to get a new order of mones that will get me results, my mac breaks great timing right. so im not going to be able to post, but maybe on weekends if bond will let me use his mac again, like this
it may still be salvageable, depending on how long it was submerged. take out the battery and disassemble everything. either let each piece air dry for a few days or use a blow dryer. once everything is completely dry, put it back together and try powering up again with a new battery. if that does not work, then take it in and see if they can fix it. just tell them you don’t know what happened, that it just stopped working and it may get repaired under warranty.
she didnt throw it on purpose… i said long story short… she actually kinda fell and tried to move it out of the way… she was also pretty badly injured, had to get some stitches, big ass piece of silver in her leg… she had a reason to freak out… and we were trying to help her… but i guess she thought that we were all professional doctors .
bad day regardless… i dont think its quite fair to blame her
The moral of the story? Get a desktop, much harder to throw into a pool
Actually, having a computer submerged underwater wouldn’t necessarily ruin it, not unless it was on at the time (short circuit perhaps). The worst thing that could happen, I suppose, is water could get into the hard drive and might damage that. If you got a computer wet, you’ld need to thoroughly air dry it for a long, long while before you restart it. Also there are companies that can do data recovery on damaged hard drives, but it isn’t cheap.
Just completely trivial but there are some hardcore tech junkies that submerge their motherboard in mineral oil. It is an effective coolant and is not conductive. Also, there are liquid cooled PC’s that using hoses and radiators, and again, pure water isn’t electricly conductive.
Laptops, like many other electronic devices, have many capacitors that carry charge for a while after after the power source is ruined. People who don’t know this are the ones who get angry when they drop their ipods into a toilet and it doesn’t work anymore XD.
Water doesn’t conduct electricity, but it has to be in a VERY VERY pure form. Pools do not contain pure water at all.
Laptops, including macs, are not water tight. Water is already in it maybe in the lcd too.
Motors in the hard drive and fans are prolly flooded and would be impossible to dry unless you disassemble the motor.
The BEST chance for revival is to remove the LCD, disassemble the chassis, give it a rubbing alcohol bath, dry, clean contacts, reapply thermal paste where needed, dry again, make sure its dry, let it sit a bit longer to make sure it’s dry, then try turning it on again. Get a new LCD maybe, and a new hard drive.
@ daedelus. It was vegetable oil video @ tomshardware.com. And in liquid cooled computers, no liquid is actually touching anything that conducts electricity besides maybe the waterblocks, but unless your coolant, not always water, is part of a circuit for some strange reason, nothing should happen.
You are probably right, anything but a splattering of water and a computer would most likely be toast… I’m just saying there is the off chance that something on it works. For sure data could probably be recovered off the hard drive… but it would have to be pretty important data because it isn’t cheap. All it takes is money.
I always back stuff up, really important stuff. External drives that get replaced every few years. For a student or the like, a large capacity USB thumb drive would be fine, I’m sure. USB flash memory is fairly reliable, too. I’ve only had one go bad on me, and that was after several years of continuous usage as essentially a pagefile.
thx guys… lol i once jumped in the pool with my fone, like a year ago… it was on and started to short circuit… the flash was going on the camera, it was vibrating and the screen was turning a milky black color… it was telling me if i didnt take out the battery it was going to die… i flipped a shit and couldnt get the battery out, it started to lose power… finally got it out and put it into rice the fone turned on after bout a day of that… but didnt work, i could get my contacts transferred though
assets book was under the water (on ) for i would say 1 r 2 minutes the girl was going hysterical*** no one really noticed that it had actually gone in. once she was being helped wit thought… OH Shit, the mac is in the pool, dove down, got it, brought it bak up… but it was ruined my then… smelled really strongly of chorine… were taking it to the apple store today…
