ummmmmm… yesssss…
noise shaping often means arranging spectral distribution… there are whole claaes of noise colors, blue noise, brown noise, 1/f noise which might not be the same as brown noise, red noise… and of course, one of my favorites, black noise… yup, it exists as either a mathematical construct (cauchy noise) or stuff you can listen to… I sorta came to this by observation when I was listening to raindrops hit the window and noticed that certain patterns of raindrops that came in persistant-intermittent spatters of a certain frequency were having an exceptional general effect on my neurology… this “shaped randomness” which had bursts and lulls does satisfy some of the definition of “black noise” , somewhat as does the crackling sound of a fire…and to some extent also the babbling brook sound, which is somewhere between brown and black noise, I was thinking if you could replicate some of that mesmerizing stacatto that is both consistent and inconsistent you have a non distracting sound (that’s the major drawback to most attempts at romantic-erotic-sensual music… it over engages the mind, and the mind atempts to synchronize with the music, which can be at odds with the body mind rhythms) where the pure white noise source is overconsistent… so it would seem that the trick on the level of auditory neurology, is to randomize in very controlled ways that allow the mind to flow freely and remain deeply focused without being “thoughty” … odd thing is a bunch of smart Chinese have introduced this identical idea as a therapeutic device that emits infrasonic energy as a way of introducing “healthy randomess” into ill parts of the body… if you place one of their infrasound transducers on your mattress, the bed will wurble with an almost imperceptible, but delightfully strange sense of aliveness… which, naturally will be the subject of an upcoming experiment… and what shall we call this one, The Black Noise Orgasm ? Probably will be noisy in any case… some of these women when they let go, man they really let go… I think I completely understand the true origin of the opera now… as for babbling brook sounds… I knew this gal who ran an excellent cathouse, she fully grokked the aesthetics of sex, and went to the trouble of obtaining small illuminated tabletop fountains for each room that produced a specific gurgling sound… she must have searched for ages before she found the ones that generated the exactly right combination of softness and plangeance with the precisely right noise structure… something about that sound could trigger profound erotic states of consciousness, especially when coupled with flickering oil lamps… althought I think flicker noise or 1/f noise is somewhat distinct from black noise, a degree of blackness/cauchy persistance seems to cause the sound to have a much deeper traction in the mind…
