Please help me feed the kids

I’m not really sure where else to post this and the lounge seemed like an off-topic enough arena to introduce this.

Microsoft is offering to donate 8 meals for every download of the new Internet explorer.

Downloading IE8 will help feed hungry Americans

There don’t seem to be any catches to it that I can see. Download IE and they add 8 to the total number of meals they will donate in August. Multiple computers means multiple groups of 8. The file does have to be downloaded from here though:

Internet Explorer 8 - Better Browser

Now I am not asking you to use the product. Hell, I havent even looked at an IE icon in years but for 8 meals I will certainly humor them and download the latest version. Might keep it for a week or I might just delete it an hour later. Regardless, the children get to eat and it will only take 2 minutes of your day.

If only one percent of everyone on this forum downloads it while this promotion is still on we could as a mass get over a THOUSAND meals donated!!!

Please guys, I have been hungry before and it totally sucks. Do this for me or do it for the kids, but please, just do it

Thanks,

Chad

Chad, thank for the help and information.
I join you downloading IE8.

Thank you so much, fantisto.

I downloaded it on both the computers at the house and on 3 computers at work. That puts the total meals donated from Pherotalk at 48!!!

Come on guys, I know we can get 1,000

I am now downloading for another 2 of my office laptop and pc. Cheer!

Actually, computers of the same household have the same external IP address, and that’s what sites tend to count

It just looks like one computer downloading the same file, multiple times, to their servers…

You helping or hating?

Merely doling out the facts

Surely we can do better than this.

I’d say the last poster above was trying to help. That’s pretty useful information. No point downloading it over and over again on multiple computers at home now. Got it on the only PC in the house. Thanks for the heads up Reishi.

BTW, I’m sure you’ve all heard the statistics. Lots of starving people in the world and also in the US. There is a surprising number of people who go hungry in our country.

If you haven’t, try reading Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara Ehrenreich. Basically, its a sociologist giving herself a small amount of starting money and nothing else and trying to get by on the minimum wage in America. I believe she does this in 3 cities, not too sure, read it 5 years ago. But basically, there are people working 2 jobs trying to get by and STILL NOT being able to get by. Living in cars, sharing 2 bedrooms with 5+ people (when you’re in college thats fine, but when you’re actually trying to LIVE 5+ people in a 2bd is hell). These are your every day workers. Your waitresses, cooks, people who work retail, people you see EVERYDAY. From groceries to the gas station. People out there are hungry. In this economy and food costs rising (not sure if it still is as I write this, but it WAS going up) everyone really needs the help.

Unfortunately, IE8 sucks and is still buggy. However I don’t mind downloading then deleting it for the cause. :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah, thats what I did. My PC sits and collects dust now. Safari + Firefox. =D

iMac + MBPro = no need for PC

Firefox is definitely where it’s at.

Apple propaganda says that Safari is faster than Firefox. Experience tells me otherwise. xD

I use it for most sites just cause I’ve been so use to it. I use firefox for sites I just need to work and be fast. Safari for some reason doesn’t load some sites. It also doesn’t seem to process/send sites too well. Example: Won’t let me pay tuition online, but firefox will. Cookies, security etc is all on low or bare minimum. A lot of my school sites will not load on safari but will load on firefox. So generally for secure sites, firefox, all else safari.

Anyhow, offtopic. Go feed a person for a week. Download IE8 and feel good about feeding someone.
