Thx for your support!

10 grains!!! you think 10 grains of rice or what ever is going to feed the hundreds of children that die every day of starvation!!!

You are so generous, we should call Your majesty King Scrooge…
answer questions to blackmail my conscious … i find this disgusting and distasteful…

£1 ($2) can buy 5KG of rice and feed a family of four for a week. Answer a question right and get 10 grains of rice.:angry::angry::angry:

…:frowning: If you took a few seconds of your precious time and click on the link, you will find that this organization has donated 2,296,622,790 grains of rice since oct 7th, BUT MOST OF IT CAME FROM THE LAST 7 DAYS, because more people start to find out about this website. That is what i try to do: spread the name on forums and get more people to do it!

And no, it is not me, generous king scrooge, who owns this organization. How can I be such a hero who create the website to help thousands of people?

This afternoon, I answered like 400 questions correctly in less than 25 minutes, which is 4000 grains. As a student, I cannot say that I wasted my time since I learned many words. You can do the same if you made good use of the time instead of posting that criticism.

Plz do me a favor and count how many rice u eat next time, don’t even take into consideration that people in hunger have low metabolism and low muscle mass to feed, ull find out that people can help others with so little.
I am disappointed that this is not well received here, but plz just ignore this instead of complaining, attacking and bitching stuff.
Habib, how many kilograms of rice have you bought for those starving children? This is just a just another form of fundraising that start slow but can grow exponatially after. It is easy and dont take much work at all.

… i find it disgusting and distasteful that some people will always try to hamper, hinder, obstruct and prevent a beneficial organization to achieve it’s goal.

I’ve currently worked my way up to 600 grains of rice.

There are 29,000 grains of long grain rice per pound, and at least twice (possibly 3-4 times) as many grains per pound if we’re talking about short grain rice.

Producers Rice Mill

so they’ve donated some 79,000 pounds of rice (if it’s long grain, lots less if short grain) so far.

It’s a nice thing for them to do. It would be even nicer if they were straightforward about it and didn’t use terms that make people think their gift is more significant than it is.

This perspective on the profit motive in such fundraising may be of interest too:

That Rice Really Isn’t Free - Philanthropy.com

Thank you for doing a research for us carrie. I look through it and agree with you. A grain is in average 0.03g (or 30 mg).
I believe that they use the advertising money because all those giant companies have a limit on their charitable donation, but can still transfer some of their ad fund into donation this way, since they are already big and well know, and dont need that much advertising. Which is a plus.
Have a nice day everyone!

Yes Rice isnt free it comes at cost…

Third world children starve, because they live in countries straddled by corrupt regimes, debt, unfair trade agreements and arrogant multinational corporations which take the biggest slice of profits from those countries.

As for how many grains of rice i have donated, i dont bother to count, havent the time for it, but i like to think the £1200 ($2400) i have donated since January 2007 on top of the £50 ($100) per month to unicef, has bought a hell of a lot more rice then answering 400 questions.

I prefer to donate direct to the poor themselves, rather then through non profit orgs. how much of my money is spent on Administration and beauracracy? This money has to come from somewhere. And how much actually goes on the needy and destitute?

Personally I think every little bit helps. I would like to see the organization register as a 501 C3 Non Profit Charitable Organization though.

I do know that those advertisements on the bottom of the page are not generating huge profits to the organization, and the advertisers actually pay Google, who then takes their cut and forwards a FRACTION to the website owner.

What they have been able to accomplish in less than 1 1/2 months is pretty impressive.

If you want to contribute, it doesn’t make a difference whether you can contribute $1.00 or $1,000.000, every little bit helps!

Some may criticize this organizationfor what seems to be a paltry amount of help, but it seems no different to me thatn so many other organizations that sponsor “fund raising” “walks” or other events where probably a good percentage of the funds raised go mostly to overhead.

Techniques such as these DO help advertise and raise awarness, but I too think that it is a far better thing to donate money directly to a cause rather than fund “gimmicky” events. I say “directly” also because I have found that many “charity” organizations (eg United Way in the US) parcel out your donations per a formula. If they decide that charity “X” is going to get $100,000 this year, that is all they will get from them, even if people sending in contributions to UW who designate that charity send in an amount greater than that. The “excess” gets diverted to other “underfunded” charities the UW supports. So the organization you think you are sending money to doesn’t get it.

Sadly some organizations probably must resort to such gimmicks as it may be the “best” and most “profitable” way to raise any funds.

My thoughts.
