In previous threads I had stated that a product I had purchased contained Oxytocin and that being more eductaed, I decided it was snake oil due to limitations in chemistry. The reaction I’ve gotten from the product seems somewhat poisitive, however, so I investigated some more and discovered that there have actually been several medical studies on the nasal application of Oxytocin and its resulting behavioral results, and they all point to SOME change in behavior. This seems to indicated that Oxytocin either DOES have a pathway from bllod to neural tissue, or as humans we are equipped to respond to its presence as an olfactory cue. I would guess the second is the case, myself, since chemistry tends not to me flat out wrong. As I’ve noticed other reviewers comment elsewhere, the effects of the Oxytocin seem fairly short lived. I would say a spray seems to last about an hour max. The spray itself is alcohol based, not oil, and if I had to guess, I would say the concentration needed to get the effects has to be high. Since Androgenics doesnt sell anything with this component, I dont feel its a direct competitor, and I would encourage folks to experiment with combining them if you are looking for a somewhat potent short term behavioral reaction. Its odorless more or less, so it probably would only help any perceived benefits of others.
Below are links to some studies showing behavioral effects from nasal application of Oxytocin.
More specifically, I had decided Oxtocin as a fragrance adjuct snake oil. Its clearly a potent hormone and behavioral determinant, however its known operations as a neuro-transmitter ir internal to neurons and nerve pathways. Oxytocin itself does not pass the blood brain barrier, and thus the numerous things it IS used for typically dont result in any behavioral component, and its taken orally and nasally for other effects on physiology. I did find a few studies indicating it DOES have some sort of behavioral component when taken nasally, so it appears that there is some pathway for a behavioral response. The problem with using it as a spray on is that the studies indicate fairly large doses were administered directly using a spray, so the idea that you can wear a dusting of it and have a solid behavioral response is still a bit sketchy, but at least for the moment plausible.
I was totally agreeing with you, just in my own little way. From all of my experiments with oxytocin the only effects its ever had was direct inhalation through the nose in one of those nasal sprayer thingies.
I have the pure stuff and have practically doused myself in it and never have I had any effects from anyone else. So in essence I believe it is only passed through injection or somehow bypassing the skin and internalizing it into the blood stream. I’m pretty certain any study you find on it is relating to direct bloodstream cases and not worn as a pheromone.
Actually, the studies I mentioned above DO indicate inhalation as a method of introduction. In most cases, it is a nasal spray. The issue I had was that all of its hormonal activity relating to mood and behavior is believed to be related to its general function as a neurochemical and not as a bloodborn agent. While it DOES seem to regulate and be part of the process of some complex emotions and behaviors, it does so only internal to the nervous system and not as a function of its presence in blood. That said, reading the above studies indicates there is SOME level of connection between inhaling oxytocin and behavioral attributes, so I would hypothesize that there may be a different pathway than blood presence that triggers the effects. In the case of generosity and trust, perhaps sensing the presence of Oxytocin in an individual has evolved to create a mutual trust or empathy. Since Oxytocin seems to be a primary compound involved in these processes, evolving to smell it present in others would be a mechanism for that process, and by wearing it you emulate the transaction?
I dunno. I do think at this point I have ruled out the mones allegedly present in the product. I have other products that contain the same compounds (even androgenics products) and so far NOTHING replicates the reaction I get from my wife if I pile on a bunch of this stuff. Its odorless, and in fact smells like rubbing alcohol at first, so I can rule out a pleasant reaction to an odor. I dont think its placebo on my part because after reading up on Oxytocin I was more irritated at being sold something that cant work than anything, and assumed it had no value. After eliminating it from the equation and then replacing it several times, I’m reluctantly willing to accept it seems to be having some genuine effect. It seems to last about 60-75 minutes before I have to slather it on again, bt so far its fairly repeatable and reliable. While the other compounds do seem to have their own effects, this one is almost frighteningly capable of immediately elevating her mood to the point of being giddy and constantly smiling. I’m not sure if thats the effect anyone else is looking for out of pheromones, but its spot on for what I was trying to accomplish.
