This is a great journal, Science Student! Keep up the good work!
Astrea, apparently it was finally YOUR turn to put me in stitches! ![]()
Boo, and I can’t say this strongly enough – find a GOOD physical therapist. I’ve had many for various things, and know all to much about exercises, but still there’s something about having someone else do the treatments and manipulations while I relax that’s progressing me faster than all the rehab sports therapists have. ![]()
Wow, thanks! And I keep thinking I’m slacking, but somehow I think whipping out a lab notebook on a date (when events are immediately happening) might skew the results just a teensy bit. ![]()
I do it with my iPad all of the time. I’ve whipped it out in so many inappropriate situations.
But sometimes work calls!
Please to read more carefully. Stood me ON my head, not STOOD ON my head! ![]()
And ScienceStudent, that was years ago now. I rode to the ER in an ambulance, on a backboard with cervical collar and everything. They made certain there was no dangerous damage, gave me muscle relaxers, and sent me home. I see the chiro periodically, and he taught me how to adjust my neck safely - it periodically and frequently tweaks out of place. Evidently there is one cervical vertebra (not sure which one) that tends to torque itself out of alignment. That is to say, it’s still in line with the rest of my spine but gets itself twisted to the side a bit. I adjust it on order of a couple times a day. I kinda doubt there’s much a therapist can do now. I do have a good set of PTs - sent to 'em after my first knee surgery - but it’s been a good decade, ya know?
Re: notebook - seriously get an iPod Touch. They’re inexpensive, don’t have a wireless bill tacked on, and DO have a notes app. But it’ll look like you’re sending a message or something and you can whip that bad boy out and put down a couple abbreviated notes and on you go.
A.) I have an iPod Touch, but I cannot ABIDE people who interrupt dates with phone/text, etc. Especially on a regular basis. Once or twice with good reason is okay. “Oh my buddy canceled frisbee golf later – want to go to dinner now?”
B.) I dislocated my shoulder for 3 days when I was 15 and never had real work done on it until now. (I went in for neck pain causing up to week-long tension headaches.) My shoulder has improved remarkably! ![]()
A) make it subtle and infrequent, then.
B) I’ll have to see about that. Especially whether insurance would cover it.
Yeah, apart from the obvious - I came off a horse a couple of months before my 13th birthday; rather it took off, I stayed on until it stopped and the saddle slid off the side. Still ‘mounted’ in the saddle my head and shoulder met the years long drought hardened ground. 4 hour epileptic fit; smashed skull, dislocated shoulder, dislocated hip, spine twisted, spinal cord bruised and finally comatose.
Ruined the plan to become a dancer.
They were shipping me off to the hospice - told my parents I was gonna die; then I woke up in a ward of old women in various stages of dying
then told the parental units that I would be permanently brain damaged and probably wouldn’t be functional. So much for western medicine disparaging snort. Proved 'em wrong the second day I was awake and haven’t let those morons bother me since. I’ve only seen a GP for something voluntarily since then. Pre melanoma spot frozen off my arm. And for me - good riddance to the arrogant white coats. ![]()
So, I’m claiming amnesty on the ‘horse on head’ query. lololol ![]()
Holy cow!!! Im officially scared of horses now… I rode on one once, just a slow walk around a country block. A very country block lol! Esp after reading all of this, Im pretty sure that totally satisfied my horse riding for a lifetime ![]()
I probably could get away with whipping out a notebook…I used to do that for the longest time, whether to write poetry, or some thought in my head, or if I remembered something I forgot and didnt want to forget again…my head is all over the place, and the only way to keep track was writing things down as they came to me. Im so in outer space, no one would probably flinch an eye to see me suddenly writing stuff down and even if curious, be too afraid to ask lol
Haven’t been within 20 metres of a horse since.
Astrea, my God, that’s awful! Holy cow, how scary!
Nah, I just kept riding and playing polo. “Get back on the horse,” as the saying goes. I actually got BETTER after that because I made it a point to learn how to 1) NOT come off, 2) DELIBERATELY come off safely in an emergency.
Only thing that stopped me was my knees. I can no longer mount and dismount without considerable help. If I was on the field, or on a trail ride, and had to dismount then remount, I’d be in a heap o’ trouble. So I don’t ride much anymore.
Now back to our regularly scheduled pheromone report.
No, honey. That’s Holy Horse. lol
Meh. Done with, altered my whole life. Took the dance dream and the second career I was planning at the time. Shit happens.
Well no wonder. That sounded like quite a spill. You can fall off anything and hurt yourself though. If you think about it its not really the horse that should scare you its falling off the horse.
My grandparents had a farm, its my older brothers now but we all road before we could walk. I have taken a few tumbles but nothing that serious. My father would always check me to be sure I was ok then tell me “get back on that horse girl” To tell you the truth I kinda didnt want to and told him I was scared. He asked of what ? I said the horse and thats when he made me aware of the difference. Your not afraid of the horse your afraid of falling off. You can fall off anything, you cant let that stop you from climbing though. Climb back up and this time dont fall off.
I got back on and I am glad I did.
I love riding up on the farm now. I dont get up there much but when I do its the first thing I run out and do. I am not scared of the horses but I am still scared of falling off LOL
Tisha
I am interrupting a lunch meeting to type this right now. So HA!
But seriously just popping in to say great journal and also to remind people to keep the sidebar chat out of here so ScienceStudent can keep her journal on task. ![]()
Hey, I’m just glad to be popular for once in my life–oh wait, it’s never stopped. ![]()
At the time, I spent a month in hospital; the next six months aren’t in my memory banks except for one emotional trauma and the monthly head x-rays to make sure no bone fragments worked free to lodge in my brain. And those only due to repetition, I think. It prevented the academic studies I intended with the other.
When I actually got back into my body; I realised I needed to get back on the damn thing. Mother didn’t care to spend that kind of money. End of that story. It’s just a case of no need, the want died with the fear and I can’t be bothered to worry about it now. Not something I think about anymore; and I’m urban. No need for it either.
But if the Apocalyptic Armageddon happens and I have to, if I want to get around; I’ll just empty a TOGO! of IO on myself and hope for the best. ![]()
John, I don’t think it’s a horrible sidebar, really. The concept of “getting back up on the horse” has, over the years, become a philosophy of sorts. So okay, the mones didn’t work this time. Don’t throw 'em out. Rethink your combination, analyze it, come up with a new combo, and “get back up on the horse.” ![]()
Now, “don’t squat with yer spurs on” might NOT apply in this forum… ![]()
shutting up now…
Days 26-28, 28-30.June – 1 spray of 2x IH to go
Three days of slow recovery and minimal movement. I was still quite upbeat as the pain was mostly tiring, or sharp with sudden movements.
Tuesday, I did drop of more grading and briefly go to an informal lab meeting.
Wednesday, I went to PT–massive improvement! Monday I couldn’t lift a full (8 pound) gallon of milk; after PT I was able to pick up my (8 pound) cat again!
Thursday, I still couldn’t even carry groceries or stand/walk/sit up for more than three hours at a time, so I didn’t go much of any place. I had a late date w Pl, but had to work early Fri morning.
All in all, nothing out of the ordinary.
Day 29, 01.July – Naked
Friday Exam grading and proctoring in the morning. No (noticed) looks from the student who smiled last time. More weekend-date.
Out and about, but not paying much attention to strangers. ![]()
