One of my favourites was a film that came out in '84, with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. Starman. One of the few movies, no, make that the only one, that successfully combines sci-fi for the guys with romance for the ladies and does it really well.
It’s a guaranteed makeout afterwards if you’re watching it on a date. Every girl who sees it ends up blubbing a river at the end, and it even brings a lump to this cynical dog’s throat. Plenty of opportunities for comforting. ![]()

Still got the biggest crush on Karen though (early 80s). Pity she’s older than my mother now.
Another one is Dog Soldiers. Low budget, and more of a black comedy than a horror, but it’s terrific fun.

you gotta be kidding me right??![]()
My favorite movies of all time are Blade Runner and Solaris (either the new version with George Clooney, or the older version by Andrei Tarkofskiy). The Tarkofskiy version is not for the easily bored but it is a beautiful film, and gives me an excuse to try and keep using at least some of my 2 years of highschool Russian. I still have not seen STALKER but I need to do so one of these days, another Tarkofsky film.
Another semi-indie film I like is “A Scanner Darkly”, which was an adaptation of a Philip K Dick book. It has Keanu Reeves and a few others in there, and uses a rotoscope look. I’m still not sure of all the finer points in that film, although there are themes of alienation, paranoia, doubt, and unreality. As you can see, I like science fiction.
StarMan was a gr8 movie
A few I love so much I bought for repeat viewings.
A Love Song for Bobby Long John Travolta melts in to the Bobby Long character. Gabriel Macht is crush worthy, and a very umm..ripe Scarlett Johansson. I love this movie!
O’ Brother Where Art Thou Love the setting & the music. The only thing it lacks is more screen time for Holly Hunters character.
The Professional Sexy Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and a young Natalie Portman.
Hoooooooooooo aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Great great movie! Love the tango scene - we watch it often on youtube.
I’m still a bit young so I like my comic book movies, except the 1st hulk movie (Yuck!) Ironman, Incredible Hulk, Hellboy, Batman Begins and Dark knight. Also like star wars, lord of the rings, harry potter, etc..
Comedy is mostly anything with Jim Carrey, that guy cracks me up. Love the mask and Ace ventura..lol
My top 5 in no particular order:
Forrest Gump
Shawshank Redemption
GoodFellas
Dark Knight
Schindler’s List
Casablanca - Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman
Year of Living Dangerously - Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver
Forbidden Planet - Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen
The African Queen - Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn
Pretty much anything with John Malkovich…
Not sure why.
Top Gun
Die Hard
Kill Bill Vol 1
Back to the Future
I’ll have to add The Crow. One of my all time favorite movies.
SPOILERS*
If you’ve never seen both of these movies stop reading now.
In Fight Club his actions were the result of a multiple personality. In American Psycho the protagonist suffers from massive social inadequacy. In his own mind he’s the shit, and it’s in his mind and diary where he carries out the violence against those he feels threatened by. His confession means nothing because it was all in his head. He’s so far gone however, that he himself fails to realize this when faced with reality.
Pheronoob, you are 1 post away from the Reuther
