I got my first order of pheromones in the mail today and I started thinking about the fact it comes in a spray bottle. The ones I ordered from athena institute a while back gave careful instructions about not pouring the pheromones in a spray bottle. The argument was that spraying the pheromones out like that destroys them. Do you think there is any truth to this? I never noticed any difference people behaved towards me using athena’s product btw.
Sidenote: I ordered TUTH. You think this is safe to wear during the day?
Spray bottle do NOT destroy pheromone or Androtics would have been counting stars since years now !
According to Mystery Method, there are three steps to run game: attraction, comfort then seduction. Order matters and could determine your chance of success. TUTH makes you leap to the seduction step right away (last step) and that is often coming off too sexual (not sexy). This is a general assumption about what this product to a lot of people but it might give you different results.
Why would spraying pheromones destroy them ? That’s really the most ridiculous thing I ever heard . I am surprised at Cuttler for spreading such misinformation.
Bacteria, sunlight and extreme heat can destroy pheromones.
Bacteria feeds on them.
Sunlight and extreme heat evaporates the carrier.
That and human error when handling them… That’s it.
Speaking as someone with a degree in chemistry, the physical action of a pump sprayer is so unlikely to disrupt a molecule of ANY sort as to be ludicrous. I suppose if you were trying to force a crystal lattice through the pump sprayer it might cause damage to the molecular structure - because the crystal would break. But that’d be kinda stupid to try anyway.
Now, depending on carrier, level of aromaticity, etc. a pump sprayer may well cause a given mone to diffuse too quickly to work effectively, which might be the case with the other product. But I can’t say that for certain because I’ve never heard of 'em. It’s only a hypothesis, and I’ve no way (nor real interest) in confirming or disproving it.
I do know that the metered spray bottles used by AD work great, and I will get a premeasured dose of mone, with a reasonably known diffusion rate (depending upon factors such as environmental temperature, humidity & air flow, and personal conditions such as body temperature, skin oiliness, and perspiration) with each pump.
They may have put such things in their copy to dessuade you from buying from us specifically or one of the other majority of companies that use spray bottles. Trust me as an operations manager I’d rather just make little bottles of chemical and instead of complex formulas just make you pour them yourself.
But unfortunately my integrity which got me my position at AD says we should just do what we do now. ;p
Let me list a few things that come in sprays that if it were true that spray bottles destroy molecules wouldn’t work:
Anti-bacterial cleaner
Bug spray
Regular cologne
Air freshener
Spray wax
Scotchguard
These all have complex molecules that if crushed just wouldn’t perform.
Like I said it’s either to keep you from buying spray product or they just aren’t that knowedgable about chemistry. To be clear though, I don’t know anything about their product I haven’t read in an airplane magazine or heard about here.
OK this makes sense now. Given the instructions to mix the stuff with aftershave and SHAKE IT BEFORE EACH APPLICATION, the stuff apparently does not mix readily and may be rather viscous. If it is viscous it might even clog a spray nozzle. It certainly is not of the same or higher density as aftershave (alcohol), in which case it might emulsify; nor is it soluble in alcohol, since it must be shaken repeatedly.
This also tells me that it may be a very heavy molecule and therefore not very volatile. In turn that says that diffusion rates would be low.
Alternatively it could be very light - but to be lighter than alcohol and NOT dissolved in it - I’m inclined to doubt it.
That’s my scientific evaluation of what’s being said about what to/not to mix their mones with. It says nothing about the efficacy of their product whatsoever.
Personally it sounds messy and I’ll stick with the AD spray products.
I got a straight A in High School Chemistry meaning I have the most basic understanding of terms. It did help with my formulation training at Androtics.
So having taken Chemistry in school, I know what a Bunsen burner is and how quickly hair catches fire when the dude with the pony tail forgets he has one hanging from the back of his head.
Another Chemistry degree:
The agitation might be enough to denature a full protein, a fragile one, at that, but proteins are on the order of 100 times larger, so their bond structure can be looser.
Pheromones are roughly the size of water or olive oil molecules – spraying those does no damage.
So, as Boudicca said, maybe the diffuser ruins the duration of the effective dose? (If so, that was misleading wording on the part of the other company!) Or, they are putting other molecules in their mixtures.
It also occurred to me just now, ScienceStudent, that if the stuff doesn’t mix with the alcohol in the aftershave, as indicated by having to shake it up every time you use it, you’re not going to get a uniform amount sucked up into the spray mechanism. Depending on what floats, you might not get any at all, or you might get nothing but. Even shaken, you’re going to get “bubbles” of the stuff, rather than a smooth solution.
Yeah, I was wondering that after I read your review of the website. Much like homemade oil-and-vinegar salad dressing.
WHY would they tell you to mix it with aftershave, without at least supplying some sort of emulsifier? (I guess you could always add a little mustard.)
No, I understood that part, but if it’s not evenly distributed, you’d get massive OD for the first 1/4, and almost nothing for the rest. The products would be seen as failures, and the company would fold. Unless it’s all (or mostly) the placebo effect anyway.
Oh I don’t disagree with you in the least. It just doesn’t sound like a good formulation to me, assuming it’s for real. I don’t know the particular chemical, but mones are designed to be aromatic, both in the organic chem sense and in the aroma sense, so it can’t (shouldn’t) be very heavy. And aromatics usually dissolve in alcohol pretty well. Ethanol and isopropylene glycol ought to do it. And they’re two of the three components of perfumers’ alcohol.
I guess if the aftershave doesn’t contain those components the mones wouldn’t dissolve as well. Still and all, SD-alcohol-40 is just ethanol, and most aftershaves contain it.
I like that it comes with a little funnel, thats pretty cool. I hate when I buy something and need my own funnel. Seriously. Like - I wish flavor oils came with little funnels.
Although I guess I could just use the pippetes with formulate with.
Edit: Who am I kidding? I wish beer came with funnels.
