Today my school had a choir logistics rehearsal all day. I’m in honors choir, and in addition, I’m singing Frankie Valli’s “Sherry” in a small group with a few other guys. Most, if not all, of these guys are the jock-type that would typically ignore an average guy like myself, but today was different.
I noticed that I myself was more open, and spoke up more often. The guys laughed at a few quick one-liner jokes that I made, and seemed to respect me more than they did previously; even since yesterday when we last rehearsed.
I had to leave the Sherry group a bit earlier than the other guys to go practice some other numbers, but they were alright with it saying “you got it,” referring to the song. Later that day, when we were finishing up, one of the guys approached me saying that he thinks I have a really strong voice, and that we don’t need as many people crowding the stage. He told me that he thinks me and one other Bass should stay, and have the other two leave because they’re not good enough. Usually it’s the other way around, or I don’t get approached at all.
In general, I had a much better time with these guys than I usually would. I got more eye contact and more respect than I would have ever expected.
SIDENOTE: OPENNESS
I noticed that this one girl in Honor’s Choir that I’ve sort of admired from afar has been giving me a friendly “Hey Andrew!” whenever I get placed next to her to sing. This never happened before I wore Openness.
A very similar thing consistently occurs with another girl, (beautiful, athletic, some think she’s the hottest in the grade) who’s been having (not to mention, starting) casual conversations with me, and making little jokes. Seems more comfortable around me.
Was thinking of ordering CTTM for the summer soon, with intro points that I’ve saved up. Might just stick with Honesty and Openness, though…
