Suits and age Appropriateness,

When is an Acceptable Age to wear suits all the time, I am wanting to take my style and swag to the next level, I wear button downs and shirts. Mostly with dark wash denim without holes in them and I am thinking about getting some blazers and a suit. What do y’all think and ladies your input is greatly appreciated and welcomed to say what you think .

No one should wear suits “all the time”.

There are situations that call for suits and those that dont. If you over dress all the time people wont think you have style they will think your pretentious.

Style should not just fit the person it should fit the situation as well.

You should also choose what you feel comfortable and confident in because how you feel in your clothes will shine through way more then the actual clothes. You need to find “your” style not wear a style you think will make people interact a certain way with you. If the style you choose doesn’t fit your life and personality that is going to show and say more about you then your clothes do.

I think you should have a suit or two and some nice blazers and wear them when the situation calls for it.

I am comfortable with what I wear I just want to upgrade my style even more, I am phasing out most Tshirt, except a handful and of cour se, white, black and grey Tshirts for undershirts and to just wear, can’t ever go wrong with a classic clean white Well fitted T Shirt, I got rid of about 8 bags of Tshirts for that went to goodwill. Nothing but button downs and shirts and classic Ts for me from now on and a couple suits coming up, and a Tux, and some blazers. Another question 2 or 3 piece suits and 2 or button suits, which is more age appropriate for me. Thanks Again Tish.

Your Welcome. Again its not really age appropriateness that matters. Its appropriateness for the environment and situation.

For instance there are very few events that call for a tux unless your invited to lots of “black and white” affairs. If you do go to a lot of them then get one and wear it but if your just going to a semi formal event a tux will look pretentious and inappropriate no matter what your age.

Semi formal go with a three piece.

Informal 2 piece suits and sharp blazers.

Casual which is hitting the mall, hanging with friends, movies, low scale restaurants is more for clean nice tshirts or pullovers and jeans. Nice fitted non holely ones. You can even do the causal button up shirts if you like those.

Having style has little to do with age and more to do with wearing the right clothes you feel comfortable in in the correct environment. Sort of like your mones

True Tish! So True, and for footwear, are clean white sneakers okay, I do have Lugz Dress boots and creative Recreation Sneakers that are flashy and dressy. I get compliments all the time on how I dress, but like anything you can never stop improving, IE Jordan worked on his basketball game till the day he retired and he was the best basketnall player who has ever played the game, so I wanna up my style even more. And A314 is a big factor in it I believe, it seems to have brought my ambitiousness back

Its ok to wear sneakers with blazers but not the suits. You can wear the lugz dress boots with a 2 piece, depending on the color and boot.

You can get away with the boots with a 3 piece but I would suggest shoes.

For the tux go with shoes.

Solid color t-shirts can go awesome with a blazer as long as you do things right. No need to throw out everything you already own.

Oh I know, I just got rid of Tshirts with logos and stuff like that, little kid clothes you know.

Unless you’re Neil Patrick Harris I wouldn’t wear suits all the time. It just makes you look too bit stuffy. I get that to this day and people know I gotta wear a suit to work.

Right situations, worn properly, any clothing style can work.

I’ve had people tell me I look great in both a suits or sweats during the weekends, it’s really abotu how it fits you and h ow you carry yourself.

It’s not really a matter of age appropriateness but of congruence. I know many guys who are 22 and need to wear a suit to work 5 days a week. If all your friends know you are a banker or a funeral director, nobody will bat an eyelid if you show up in a suit for friday night drinks.

If you are a student or cashier and want to wear a suit all the time anyway, keep in mind that it would be a bit alternative. But Watch Quadrophenia and you’ll see a subculture of young, working class men wearing tailored suits all the time

Young men don’t generally wear three piece suits or double breasted suits. It’s a bit inappropriate when you are in a junior position. I don’t know about the US, but in EU men who are young and relatively fit wear slim suits with brown leather shoes.

But it all depends, do you want to fit in and look congruent, or stand out and look edgy?

I have done both, but I am just wanting to dress better. A two piece suit is probably good for now and some tailored blazers, along with some more good shoes. I just wanna be the best man I can.
