About a week or so ago, I received the most interesting invitation from our Senator, requiring an RSVP.
In fact, one was sent to every PO Box in this town (most residents have PO Boxes, as mail delivery is still quite new and most people don’t even have numbers on their houses or mailboxes outside their house).
Apparently this Saturday the 125th anniversary of Katsu Goto’s lynching will be honored, first with a memorial service at the old Japanese cemetery right outside of town, followed by a luncheon at our local Hongwanji (Japanese temple).
Right on the grass kind of near the small library in town is a little Japanese memorial, which I have often passed, but never actually stopped to see what it was all about. Apparently it marks the spot where his body was found. I had no idea!
I researched a bit, and found the most interesting article about Katsu Goto’s demise.
Of course I will be there!
(And I will need to decide what pheros to use, and whether I should test something, or wear something more “planned”, lol.)
