Economic Left/Right: 5.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.36
I’m at about the same level of conservatism as Nicholas Sarkozy.
Take this test, and it maps out where you stand politically. There are four different quadrants- left authoritarian, left libertarian, right authoritarian and right libertarian. It’s a pretty interesting test.
When I took it a couple years ago, I was close to the Dalai Lama or Gandhi. Now… I don’t like talking politics, so I won’t take it
Oh, and Gandhi was a liberal Hindu influenced by Jainism, not a Buddhist. Although the worldviews are similar, there are also distinct metaphysical differences in the beliefs.
I’ve seen a Political Compass map where John Kerry wasn’t that far from George Bush- Right Authoritarian. Near Jose Zapatero on the map, maybe a little to the right from what I recall?
Anyways, I think the political compass is a simplification and might even be a bit distorted in how different some peoples beliefs are. It seems skewed with too much room on the left and too little on the right. Maybe more European in perspective than American. Zapatero would be on the left in American politics, but he’s centrist in European politics.
