Ybor City- Help!

I’m going on vacation in a week or so and I’m going to be in SW FLA for part of it. I’ve been looking at the bewildering variety of bars and clubs in Ybor City Tampa and I was wondering if anybody had some tips about some good places for a 45 year old guy in a sport coat to have a good time and spread a few fumes . I like all kinds of music (well maybe not so much countrypop or hard rap) anyway I’ve seen Ybor posted about before and thought I’d get some input. Thanks.

I’m not big on ghetto clubs and Ybor is nothing but ghetto. Been there twice and had a rotten time each time, but I’m white. It was full of african americans and mexicans. There were hardly any white guys. I felt very out of place and I was only 25 at the time.

Hey Beach, Thanks for the reply. Are there any places in the Tampa area you recommend? I kinda had the idea that Ybor was really diverse. I haven’t been there since I was a kid and the only sign of life back then was the old Columbia Restaurant. I’m still gettin’ some Black Bean Soup and crabrolls. Any other opinions?

LOL, this is loaded with bigotry. First of all, what you described is Tampa in a nutshell. If you don’t like diversity, avoid the city altogether. Second, not all hispanics are mexican, and it’s evident in your description that your perception is that narrow minded. Third, I don’t know what club you went to, but there were more whites than minorities in the ones I’ve visited, and I live in Tampa. Ybor has a wide array of clubs, you just need to ask around once you’re there - chances are you probably stepped into a hip-hop club.

I knew someone would say something like that, but i’m 100% correct. The reason I went back a second time was to see if it was any different and it wasn’t. There’s no difference between mexicans, cubans, or whatever. I was still one of the few white guys there.

Head on down to Channelside if you want to have a good time with classy people that just want to relax and have fun.

Beach, Mindset. Thank you for your replies.

I’ll take that advice. As for the rest I was assuming that Ybor would be a diverse and interesting place. I would encourage you beach to widen your vocabulary and open your mind a bit. This is a great and broad world and you’ll get much farther if you can express your well intended thoughts in ways that don’t come off as offensive to others. Mindset, my first impulse was to respond to beaches first reply in a similar manner. However upon reflection I realized that he was trying help. This great and broad world will be much better off if we will stop assuming offense and start assuming good intentions. Beachdude has as much right to tell me that he felt uncomfortable and why as you did to tell me that I should just ask around. Thank you both again for your help.

I was just about to say the SAME EXACT thing

because the world is perfect and everyone of every race loves one another. hey, if you wanna walk into a cuban, black, or mexican hell hole as a white guy, go for it, but don’t say i didn’t warn you.

It’s one thing to state that you’re uncomfortable, or feel out of place, but I’ve dealt with bigots like Beachdude from all races, and they all say the same thing. I’m glad that he helped you, but I personally can not take an uneducated opinion seriously.

well, I started this thread with what I thought was an innocent enough question about a place I was looking forward to having a good time at. Instead I got a lesson that some of us have to learn over and over again- Some people are deliberately offensive and assumption of good intention is a waste of effort. :frowning:
So what’s the answer to my question? All of 'em! I pub crawled the whole bewildering array. Found great crab rolls and black beans at Carmine’s. Found great beer and people everywhere :). Too hot for phero testing though esp. in a sport coat.

bless ya,renny.
i was there last year and i havent been back.
i like my truck without scratches, lol.
anyhoo, i can see where ybor is a catch it all type of place, as soon as you are bored with one place just walk up a block and you have a whole new set of choices.
too much drama for me though
