Aqua di gio

Ok guys, please tell me this,

Anyone of you knows any cologne that has a fragrance resembling Aqua di Gio, but is different (and hopefully better) than Aqua di Gio… Well this because, It is one of my favorite cologens, but it kind of sucks when half the world smells like you, I stop using it when half my male friends bought it.

I changed to Hugo Boss energize, wich I would never have bought for it first smell on the store, but a ex of mine offered it to me once and said it would blend perfectly with my natural smell, and guess what… It is the most amasing cologne I have ever used, I dunno if it has such a good fragrance in other guys to, but let it dry on my skin and it becomes perfect.

Either way now I kind of miss Aqua di Gio, and would like to use it a again, and alternate with Energise, but … my friends still wear it and I hate it. So if ytou could help I would be very appriciated. thanks

Well, that kind of doesn’t make sense if you ask me. If you’re looking for a cologne that smells similar to Aqua Di Gio then just wear Aqua Di Gio and don’t worry about your friends also wearing it. Thing is, that’s the problem with most modern typical mall colognes, they all smell almost the same.

If you want to really smell different then you need to start looking into niche colognes, problem is these are usually way more expensive but thanks to sites like theperfumedcourt.com you can get decants of scents for much less depending on what sample/decant size you ask for.

If you’re still inclined to a similar scent to Aqua then I think that you will like Versace Pour Homme.

I was affraid you were going to say that :stuck_out_tongue:, but is ok, it is exactly what I asked for… Versace didnt go well with my chemestry last time I used. Or at least I didnt enjoyed that much of the lasting smell.

But you said something really interesting, the problem is how to test those nich colognes… because I am really picky about my colognes, I have to wear it on the skin at least one day before I buy it… I am not the smell the paper and its fine kind of guy :stuck_out_tongue:

Just trying to make you realize that you shouldn’t worry if others are wearing the same thing.

If you ask me each scent smells differently on everyone, so chances are Aqua smells a bit different on you. But if you didn’t like Versace then look for other colognes with " Calone" in them.

Calone is an odorant used in many colognes/perfumes to give them that “ocean/ozone” scent seen in Aqua Di Gio, DKNY Men, and Hugo Element for example. Also, if you want to make it easier on you theperfumedcourt.com sells packs of decants so like that you can have a variety to smell then choose.

Well I have Hugo elements is my bystander fragrance for some situations that I dont want to be serious, for me elements its a fun cologne and youthfull

thanks for the advice on the calone, didnt know that really have to learn more about perfums… I do have a good nose.

Well about the acqua di gio trauma, is something like, imagine going to a birthday party, and there this girl you like, that just tells you… you smell like A … and B … and C … andddd D … and the birthday guy… and you start asking and everyone has the same cologne… well I just told her that in me it smells better, wich she agreed but after that I told her that I dont like being branded has “boring normal” and she offered me the hugo boss… wich actually was a great thing, but the point is, I dont want to pass by that situation again

Yes, I know it sucks. However, if we don’t want that to happen again seeking advice from a mall perfume counter employee won’t cut it. Our noses will have to smell deeper and harder for more unique scents, it’s a hard journey as there are MANY scents out there. Some hardly known, that I’m sure smell just perfect.

Green Irish Tweed for example to me personally, is another one that has already become “too known” and possibly worn by many. So to me that’s still a good smelling scent, but I wouldn’t consider it unique anymore.

looool You seem like a phylosopher talking about parfum, really nice one

But ultimatly you are right, so we just need to find the perfect smell

I don’t have that problem… yet. I get compliments on my smell all the time, scarily enough, from some of the guys I work with. It’s more of a “Dude, that cologne rocks. What is it?” than a “Heya, sailor… yer smelling divine!” so it doesn’t freak me out much.

Anyway, I say “Green Irish Tweed”, and the look on their faces say “The HELL? Sounds like an old man cologne!”. Before they can say anything, I gesture to a computer and say “Look it up.” Once they see the price, I become a god in their eyes. Of course, they’re seeing the Neiman Marcus listing of $250, which I’d NEVER pay myself, but I get a status turbocharge from the chatter about how I wear “expensive-ass” cologne that fires up among the dozen or so people I work around.

Ha, ha definitely! Little do they know we get decants! Well, at least I do mostly as I definitely can’t afford that either.

I mean GIT still smells good no doubt about it, and it will still remain unique depending on your area. For example I highly doubt that there’s a lot of people in my area who wear GIT so it can still be considered a unique scent to me around my parts.

Issey Miyake pour homme might be what you’re looking for. Although its a bit more flowery, the drydown is spectacular.

Never heard of it … wich is a good thing
I will say anything when I find it.

Its a big scent thats been around since the early 90s I believe.

Great fragrance, fantastic drydown, in my opinion one of those rare scents that just can’t be improved.

It’s very popular though.

Very popular.

I’ve got Issey Miyake Intense. Do any of you know if it’s just a stronger variant of the Pour Homme notes or a different formula altogether? I have a little problem with it in that the smell doesn’t really blossom into anything really different from the initial spray. Unfortunately, that smell is a bit sharp and almost cloying. I like it enough to wear it maybe 3 or 4 times a month, but it just doesn’t seem to flow through note layers on me like GIT or even Drakkar Noir. I’m wondering if it’s a personal chemistry thing.

If you like aqua di gio, try blvgari aqva. Very few people seem to know about it but anyone whos smelt it has only given me compliments. It has quite a few similarities with aqua di gio. Reminds me of the ocean, but its great for parties or even during the day time and especially for the beach. It also stays on you the whole day (or 2) and mixes brilliant with akuto.

I’m a newbie to this site, but I do love colognes, when I can afford them. I wear them for my own pleasure because in my rural location, I don’t get a lot of chance to be around others. I do get favorable reactions from the ladies at the post office or dollar stores on occasion, however.
Aqua Di Gio is one of my favorites, as is Ralph Lauren’s Romance. If you check, you might find that such fragrances have a variation available. I know that other brands of colognes do. That alternate version might be all you need. Or you might try something I’ve done in the past.
Coty made a Raw Vanilla cologne (hard to find now) that I liked (and it was cheap). I felt it needed something & added a few drops of a few essential oils to the blend & the result was that when I wore it out to clubs & other places, I had complete strangers complement me & ask me what type of cologne I was wearing.
I wouldn’t experiment with an expensive bottle of cologne, however. Pick up some free or inexpensive sample vials from your department store(s) & purchase some essential oil samples online or locally & experiment with them. For guys, earthy, woodsy, spicy & citrus scented oils seem to work best. Good luck.

What about this one
Eternity Aqua by Calvin Klein is a renewed version of the classic perfume Eternity. He brings fresh hints of cucumber, citrus, and green lotus leaves in the aroma. Middle notes are plum, pepper, blueberry, lavender and white cedar. Its core consists of wood chords of sandalwood, Guayaquil, patchouli and musk.

Has anyone noticed that Versace pour homme smells exactly like Ammo?

I love that you guys are all about the parfum / cologne! If you’re looking for niche perfumes; try looking at this link. I knew this guy and he’s a genius at scent! He taught me a lot about perfume, it’s history, the scent families/strains etc. His stuff is quality and the only perfumes I ever wore while I was living in Oz.

So, this is an option - and if you read the site, extremely informative as an independent perfumery with their own unique fragrances.
Damask Perfumery
