Bad thing to see in the night

From the fire inspection “the fire appears to have been caused by the blower switch, wires melted, switch contacts fused and found laying in the floor.”

So I went to get a drink last saturday night and found my car on fire!

Radio has been F-ing up for about 3 weeks,
Dealer replaced the Antenna wire, and the radio still said the antenna was disconnected, and the outputs were “Shorted” they tested it with another radio and Thought that everything would work, but they had to put my radio back in while they ordered a replacement.
I guess I bumped the power and turned on the radio when I was getting out and it caught fire. Earlier in the evening I bumped the power and it had made crackling noises (noises not music) when turning it on. I had messed with it abit turning stuff up and down trying to make it work, as it sounded like it was trying.

Sorry the hear that.

damn, sorry to see that

Good thing they renewed the “Cash for Clunkers” program. I’d saw you got a clunker on your hands.

Sorry to hear that Wolfy!

Man I hope you got insurance!!:open_mouth:

thanks for your thoughts guys,

I was really lucky, I was awake and saw it, or I could have lost a lot more.

The fuel Fuel mileage was way to high to qualify for the Clunker program… (EPA says 42 MPG for my car, I was averaging 46 in mixed driving lifetime average, and 55+ on the highway.)

The insurance adjuster said it was crazy that my car was still worth $14,000 at 6 years old.

Always sad to see a standard go down. :frowning:

So does that mean that you are going to buy all the PS in the next run and hand the packs out like candy?

Glad you saw it and it wasn’t worse.

There are a lot of deals out there. Still.

Wow. . .

What luck that you got up when you did.

yes, it was quite a startling thing to see.

The fire department said a few more minutes and the car probably would have been fully involved (totally toast)

The VW fire investigator spent 3 hours and over 900 pictures on the car, the dash is totally different looking now, he picked it all apart.

… my last car was Jetta too

and i thought that cutting my tires was a bad thing…
How could this happen?
someone on purpose did this? or its just an accident?

I do not know, I am waiting on the report from VW…

(even though somehow I suspect it be said that it was my fault for some weird reason, that seems to be the typical)

The radio was screwing up, and was scheduled to be replaced when the new one came in, I suspect it started in or near there(at least it looks that way to me.)

I had been in at the dealer for 8 hours on Tuesday, where they spent over 5 hours rooting around in the wiring harness looking for the problem causing the radio to screwup. the radio has been messing up for a while and was finally reporting the outputs were shorted to the computer when the dealer scanned it then they could not make it work. they attached another radio and it appeared to work, so they ordered a new one and put mine back in.

I just happened to turn it on earlier that evening, and it was making noises like it was trying to play music again, and I fiddled with it for a while.

i say you gota law suit, cuz they put it back in knowingly it was effed up and could cause a fire, i say your good ( if that is what started it) and you got the patients to sue them :stuck_out_tongue:

sucks that happend to your car, :frowning:

Thanks to a good settlement,

I have a new VW on order, although it will likely be Christmas before I see it -

Basically what I got except a 2 door model, same color too.

Jetta’s are nice - was it a TDI (I love the TDI)

Only problem with a VW is that they are fucking stupid to do work on because of all the special tools you need.

yes, I had a Jetta TDI, and hopefully someday soon I will have the above pictured 2010 Golf TDI.

My Jetta was pretty nicely modded, with decent fuel mileage still in it’s history. I had just finished the 100k mile services (a little early for good measure)
