Beards? Since growing one, people seem to find me more approachable

I’m growing a beard and I’ve noticed small changes is how the average person treats me. I seem to be more approachable and am being acknowledged first. I was even invited to go out on a guys boat who is a member of the yatch club where I work at.

It seems a bit strange

Hi toil.

Well, IDK…lol. My husband has a mustache and goatee. And though he’s much older than you…I’m inclined to think, no matter what your age…if it’s trimmed and well groomed it can bring an air maturity and sophistication to a guy.

If you grow a beard, it’s like a wild card. Some people will love it, others will hate it.

mmm…I doubt that all of this is happening because of a beard. Everything could be pure coincidence. I could be wrong though, it may look really good on you and people like it. I’m not a facial hair fan so seeing a guy with a beard or mustache turns me off (socially-wise, not attraction ) unless if its short enough for not covering half of his face. Therefore, I agree with Daedeuls, some may like it, while others may hate it.
I myself am growing a small beard on my chin. However, I often trim it to the point of having just a small amount of hair. From far view, it may look as if it has been drawn on me with a black marker. I “grow” it because it makes me look a little bit older.

Pheromones or not, personally, I love well groomed facial hair on a man…tres’ sexy.

So… what about soul patches (little tuft of hair directly below the lower lip, for those who don’t know). A girl I know suggested I grow one. At first, I thought it was a bit risky at my age, but now that it’s there, I kinda like it.

that’s right.

sometimes I get so busy and stressed during my exams I forgot to shave for 2 days and girls treat me differently, especially asian girls

I think you look good just the way you are in that picture you’ve got. I sort of hate soul patches and other trendy beards. To me, they look like you forgot to shave or you are trying too hard to be edgey. If your job doesn’t require it, don’t worry about it, do what you want, it’s your body. Actually, you might look interesting with a full beard, too. I just think beards are polarizing in general, though… most surveys say a certain percentage of women don’t like beards… at all. The same is true for guys, my dad grew a beard, he works as a high level mid-manager for a government contractor (accounting and system stuff) and he catches constant grief for it… I just advised him to lose it.

One reason I went for a goatee/moustache over a full beard in the end, it’s a little more comfortable wearing some motorcycle helmets, a little less hot/itchy in the summer and when you slide off a helmet it doesn’t pull your whiskers every which way- though I admit it’s a small difference and not huge. In the summer it’s a little cooler. Also, I love collecting antique shaving stuff (double edge razors, vintage injector razors- yes you can still buy blades, often at drugstores), and it gives me an excuse to shave more  Sometimes in the winter I let my beard grow back out, though.

I have considered shaving my whiskers off. I’m worried it’s hurting my chances at getting a job and maybe some people don’t like fuzzy faces.

Actually, if you look close, there’s a little baby soul patch in the pic. It just looks like a little shadow. I should change that pic… it’s starting to annoy me. Besides, it’s a misnomer. I’ve been “ridin’ Honesty” more than anything else lately.

Data, keep in my that’s the opinions of a guy. One guy. Women might like something totally different.

Whew! You scared me for a second… I thought for a minute we were going to have to go pick out curtains or something.

I like it.…wish I could see it better.

Goatee = smokin’ f-ing HOT !!!

Fo’ shizzle! :stuck_out_tongue: ..Love the “little soul patch” too…sexy! My favorite bartender has one…he’s not only hot… he’s, also, a seriuosly great bartender. What’s not to like?..then there’s the patch…icing on the cake…mmmmm. Of course, I have nothing against clean shaven men…love them, too.

This guy I was diggin on had one of those shaped like a triangle–It was so sexy to me although its accompanied by a goatee…I dont care too much for them solo tho

I fell HARD for a guy b/c he grew a goatee. Seriously, my life has changed because of the damn thing. Made me have this really serious crush on a friend. DAMN. Nuf said.

Note to self: Grow goatee!!

Full beard here for almost nine years and wife loves it.I get occasional looks from some of the younger chicks too,but it tends to make me look older.

This.

I had a girlfriend who absolutely loved the mountain man beard. Given my father’s wonderful genetics, I was able to deliver, but I never really enjoyed having a small garden on my chin.

I also at one point (7th grade) had some pretty epic sideburns but shaved those off when I was half-awake at 2 AM.

I’ve also been yelled at during a job interview for not shaving. It really is a wildcard and I suppose you should just know when to play it and when to hold it. I will say that it is better to be able to grow a fuller one, just so you know what its like. Its always possible to shave it off later when the beast becomes too unmanageable.

This is the ace in the whole. Sometimes it’s hard to hold close to the vest…especially when you think you’ve got a winning hand. And it applys to all areas of life.
