Beta androstenol , who is rich in it?

can anyone tell me who is naturally producing large amounts of this, and how do we know?

i tried doing some research online but i feel my odds are better here.
i understand androstenol is found in fresh male sweat.
do women produce any naturally?

i dug up all kinds of info on men,not so much women.

Wow, this is a really interesting question. I am also interested, props for the question and props for whoever answers it.

Nice.

Androstenol is produced in both men and women, most likely from adrenal precursors. It is excreted in the urine in both men and women, males: from <100 to >2600 mcg/24 hours, and women: <100 to 1100 mcg/24 hrs.

URINARY EXCRETION OF ANDROST-16-EN-3{alpha}-OL LEVELS IN NORMAL SUBJECTS, AND EFFECTS OF TREATMENT WITH TROPHIC HORMONES – BROOKSBANK 24 (4): 435 – Journal of Endocrinology

It is excreted in men’s semen at as least as high or higher concentration than testosterone.

In urine, women excrete about 1/3 the amount that men do.

It is secreted into human saliva as well. In saliva men secrete between 0.8 - 1.8 nmol/L; in saliva women excrete 0.4 - .08 nmol/L.

In sweat, although women excrete less androstenol than men, there is a sharp increase in androstenol excretion, and a subsequent fall in women 7 days prior to ovulation. There is more information here, concerning cornyeform bacteria and its influence on pheromone amount and content, and why women have less of this bacteria (shaved pits). I’ll let you read it. This is a really comprehensive, and really awesome report linked below.

I’ll do some more research and see what I can find about the beta isomer. Okay, I haven’t found much on actual measurements. However, since it is cornyeform bacteria that are responsible for transformation of precursors to both the alpha- and beta- isomers of Androstenol in sweat, I’m going to assume the ratios are about the same, namely men produce more of it, about 3:1. If women stopped shaving their bikini areas and arm pits the ratios of axillary (sweat-related) production would be probably closer to 2:1.

Diane

wow, thats some great information.

you know, its funny,
i had some personal theories on women’s behaviour vs men,
and this makes alot of sense.
especially if men are bigger producers and are very acclimated to a pheromone that,
even if women make it, they ruin production with hygeine.

this also opens the floodgates for many jokes as well,

anyway,
thank you very much Diane.
this is something i have been wondering about for a while.

wonder if the guys who find themselves “best friend” material naturally produce more than other men.

When I was looking for this information from you I ran across some very interesting articles regarding MHC genes, selection of mates, and how Beta Androstenol plays a part for women in that.

I didn’t read them, because they didn’t have the information you were looking for, but I’m curious now.

According to those reports, women and men can smell the difference between someone with similar MHC genes (not good mating material) and someone with very difference MHC genes (good mating material); and they can detect through smell those who have stable genes and who has genes that are likely to be unstable.

And that has to do with Beta Androstenol. I just have to go find out how Beta Androstenol influences that. Maybe it is that Beta Androstenol increases a woman’s sense of smell, or it may be something else.

Oh, I am very curious now.

Diane

EDIT: couldn’t find it again, so I don’t have any idea what this was about… damn it. The only thing I could find is that men are more attracted to the smell of women at mid month. This includes copulins, but also women’s sweat at ovulation, possibly because of increased Androstenols - Alpha and Beta.

Fascinating!

Are there any good websites on the topic of how hormone levels influence pheromone levels?

Are Tah and Tal related to the cycle?

We don’t know what molecule L and molecule H are, so there is no way to know, eh?

Diane

So we are really venturing in new territories.

How exciting!

I do notice that sexual pheros tend to harmonize more with my own stuff when I am close to ovulation. A day before my period, nothing seems to attract anyone, but then again, I want to withdraw more in any case, so it is a good thing I guess.

thats interesting,butterfly.

i personally get the attraction thing regardless of where i am in my cycle, these mixes have been super consistant for me.

you always hear that pheros are only 10% of attraction anyway,
so im wondering if your withdrawal has to do with your reactions to the mixes at this time in the cycle, rather than theirs?

i think we all withdraw at that time

I think I probably have ‘go away’ bodylanguage at that time and ‘come on over’ body language when ovulating.

The other thing is that I only notice about 10% of the hits I get. When I go out with a frien, she will tell me about all the guys flirting with me and I’d be like ‘Hey, I only noticed the guy who stood 3" away and winked’. I know menstruating women are attractive from a distance but less so from nearby. Maybe there still are hits, but not near or obvious enough for me to notice.

looks like you need a phero-buddy when you go out!

it gets to be alot of fun looking for reactions
when you can be realistic/neutral about them.

you know,
i believe with all the pheros that may be down around cycle time,
adding cops seems to “add” attractiveness.

also,
TAH works well for me around cycle time, which at first i though didnt make sense (needed that TAL push i thought) but it melds with that “im vulnerable and quiet today” thing
and literally seems to attract in a nice/kind way.

Diane has inspired all kinds of research now.

i feel like im in school,
i cant stop reading !

I get really aggressive sexually just before my period. I’ve never been able to figure that one out. Maybe I’m one of those people who over-produce estrogen, and when the progesterone finally peters out - watch out!

Diane

is it when the progesterone peters out its the strongest?

from day 1 after my period i feel aggressive, then a decline, then incline again.

im not sure what that says about progesterone, or estrogen.
maybe its time for me to add the soy protein products :o

im not a big meat eater, and that has to contribute to hormonal fluctuations.

what is your diet like, diane?

Very intersting Diane! I am intrigued that men produce a higher level of pheromones that are intended to elicit communication, especially open communication.

I guess it makes sense in that men are supposed to be more predatory in courting and mating rituals, but I would have suspected that since women are the sex to actually select their partners that the production of communication pheromones would have been higher in the female sex.

Thanks for doing a bit of research and giving us something to think about. Reps!

My diet is all over the place. We try to provide all the basics for the kids, the 4 basic food groups. But I have way too many carbohydrates and too much vegetable oils, not enough omega-3. I guess it is a typical American family diet. I supplement with complex B vitamins and a regular women’s vitamin formula. We stay away from soy, except for the once a month or so we have Chinese take out.

But genetically, I’ve always been estrogen heavy. It caused a lot of fertility problems when I was younger. I don’t know why I would think I would be otherwise now. I’m still progesterone poor, getting worse as I get older. I’ve started supplementing with progesterone and it is pretty amazing how balancing those two out during parts of my cycle has affected my energy level and my ability to just relax and get stuff done.

Diane

Awesome point, Mark!

Androstenols act in other ways as well, like territory markers. I read a study where Alpha Androstenol was sprayed on every other urinal in a men’s room and the guys wouldn’t use those urinals. Isn’t that interesting?

I live with 4 guys our 3 sons and my husband. We have two bathrooms. I thought about spraying Alpha Androstenol in the main bathroom to see if the guys would all use the other one and leave one for me alone… but decided I didn’t want to waste my To Go! on that… LOL. Would have been funny, though.

Diane

Damnit Diane, I was just about dozing off and getting ready to go to bed when I read what you wrote and almost fell out of my chair laughing.

I got an image in my head of 4 guys standing outside your bathroom … wating for you to come out … with dumbfounded looks on their faces!

ok,
2 sons, a hubby, and 2 male cats.

i have plenty of androstenol

WHy would spraying alpha nols deter other men… I thought it tended to show non-dominance.

I would have expected an opposite reaction
