Lethal dose of solevants, yikes. Yet another hurdle consumer products have to overcome. Complete and utter idiocy. I’d hate to think somebody keels over after misusing an Androtics product. Especially if it’s experimental in nature. That’d totally fuck things up for everybody else.
LONDON: A 12-year-old English boy collapsed and died from heart problems after spraying too much deodorant in the family bathroom.
Daniel Hurley was overcome by the solvents in the can and collapsed in the bath. He died five days later in hospital.
An inquest heard that Daniel died from cardiac arrhythmia, or abnormal heart rhythms, caused by solvents in the Lynx Vice spray.
Unilever, which makes Lynx, warns on the cans against over-spraying and says it must be used in well-ventilated places.
A coroner said people should read the warnings and be aware of the dangers of the products they are using.
Daniel’s father, Robert, said the youngster was proud of his appearance and was “lavish” in his use of deodorants and hair gels. “He was always putting gel on his hair and spraying deodorant and it was quite common for him to spray his clothing as well,” he said.
Mr Hurley said that three weeks earlier, Daniel, who was a “fit and healthy young man”, had collapsed in the bathroom but had recovered immediately.
Dr Andrew Hitchcock, who performed the autopsy, said: “There is a very reasonable assumption that the passive inhalation of the solvent almost certainly led to his death.” The Derby and South Derbyshire coroner, Robert Hunter, recorded a verdict of accidental death, saying he was satisfied Unilever gave enough warning.
But he said: “I do not know how many people read the warnings about exposure awareness. People need to know about the risks that these products have on the cardiovascular system.”
Perhaps the percentage of Oxygen drop from 21% to 18% in the confine space which caused his brain stop working and this led to other organs stop too. At one time I reset my company’s gas detector alarm to 19.5% for Oxygen drop so that my workers will have enough time to exit from vessels tank. Human brain will stop functioning when the supply of Oxygen to brain drops to 18% level and this will leed to death.
That reminds me of the cheerleaders in the locker room coming in just after the dance team finished, we were afraid to turn the lights on or off because the room smelled flammable, and I am pretty sure they were down to 15% oxygen most of the time.(but then they functioned without a brain most of the time anyway…) There were enough body sprays, hairsprays, perfumes, and deodorant sprays to clog your lungs and create COPD problems later in life. it was funny we tried to invent a Hookah type hair sprayer for them a 3 gallon aquanet hairspray bottle with 6-10 spray heads.
