I think many of you are here to spice up your love lives, so I thought I’d share just how easy it is to make chocolate covered strawberries.
Ingredients:
1 pound strawberries w/ green leaves attached
16 ounce bag milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening (I like non-hydrogenated crisco for this. Don’t try to use butter or regular oil for this, however.)
Instructions:
Rinse strawberries and pat dry with paper towels. In a metal or any heat resistent bowl combine chocolate chips and shortening. Boil some water in a pot. Put the bowl of chocolate chips on top and stir constantly while the boiling water melts the chocolate while blending with the shortening, forming a creamy chocolate coating.
Use a toothpick to stick into strawberry near stem to dip in chocolate coating. Turn strawberry in the chocolate coating and rest on greased wax paper. Refrigerate for 15 minutes or until set.
Serve with champagne or a nice sweet dessert wine like Riesling. If you want to get fancy, try melting white chocolate and drizzling over dipped strawberries. Or try using semi sweet chocolate and injecting strawberries with Riesling after coating. Yum!
ETA: Thanks again Sheba the stawberries were excellent, so easy to make! The Riesling went perfectly with them. I dipped six huge strawberries and by the end of the night only 1 lone strawberry was left. I had it for breakfast.
