So I have always been interested in the idea that dreams have meanings and we should always pay attention to them. A couple of months ago I had a dream which was very revealing to me. I immediately thought that my dad (who recently passed away) or God was sending me a message as almost everything in the dream has come to pass. A couple of weeks, I had another dream that I casualy mentioned to a friend who turned to me and said that my dad was sending me messages. This second dream has not come to pass but would be great if it did, and it definitely was about something that has been on my mind (so it could just be my subconscious mind). Last night, I had a dream that was just awful. I awoke with a sinking feeling in my gut and immediately prayed that this was just a dream.
So, what are some of your thoughts on dreams?
I’ve had dreams that I’d swear came true days or months down the line. The feeling of deja vu you get watching dream events unfold in the waking world is incredibly powerful, and leaves you with your hair on end and your skin transformed into a mass of crawling bugs.
Ever seen the look on a colleague’s face when you correctly predict who’s calling and why when the phone rings? Because you saw that event happen a week before in a dream? I have.
But 99.999999999999% of my dreams are random imagery and sounds. Nothing remarkable.
Events like the above literally happen only once in a blue moon, but when it happens… … holy s***!

I have a few friends who dream of conversations that will actually happen a few days or weeks later.
My dreams tend to be pretty out there (but also like movies, with an actual plot line that possibly makes sense), but also more of my subconcious revealing itself. I have dreams of the same person at least once every week (a friend of mine who I haven’t seen or heard from in YEARS) who will talk to me about things going on in my real life, or will play characters in “movie” dreams. The funny thing is, I pretty much forget about him when I’m awake.
My mom likes to ask this question whenever I tell her a dream I’ve had: How does each character represent an aspect of yourself?
I like to think they’re something more than JUST that.
Did I read somewhere that nobody has been really able to explain dreams?
As for your nightmare, I hope this makes you feel better:
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar… and this was Freud talking.
My dreams are normally out there too. I’ve flown like Neo, rode a hallucinogenic elevator that resembled a Moebius loop, been molested by sentient alarm clocks, chased by the demon dogs from Ghostbusters, and made steamy love to my dream woman.
But the ones that scare me are those that actually make sense and are of normal everyday events. Those are the ones you’ve got to watch. They’re not the random brain debris pulled up from the depths of your mind when your brain is [insert favourite psychological explanation for dreams here].
Those are the ones that come true, and those dreams happen very very rarely. That is when I’m convinced something from outside puts the information there, and it’s not from the grey matter in your head. That’s for sure.

Muse,
Although I also believe that some dreams may be forcasting the future, or, in some cases, if you are thinking of a problem, your brain keeps working on it even while you are sleeping.. But, in more cases then not, dreams are a way for our brains/bodies to process the daily chaos, random events and general stress that affect our system in order for us to not go insane. This is why so many dreams really seem nonsensical and crazy, with bits and pieces of real events thrown in. Not going to play amature phsychologist here, but sounds like you are still trying to process your loss… I used to dream about my ex and I getting back together for years. It stopped after a while, thank god. I used to wake up and have a crappy day with that sinking stomach feeling you described. I actually read somewhere that dreaming is good for you because it really gives you a chance to process stuff on the subconcious level. Dreamless sleep may seem desirable, but, I guess it’s not.. So anyway, I wouldn’t put too much meaning as far as god sending messages, unless you have a serious hunch that it’s really what’s happening (I am no expert, and I believe that anything is possible).
I prefer the early morning lucid dreams about flying and having sex much more than the other kind ![]()
I just had a dream last night that involved someone trying to lead a bison (buffalo) into a holding pen/corrall (chain link fence) and it broke free and ran off stage left…
Really!
I have NO idea what THAT was about…
I’ve always had an interest in dreams, and there seem to be patterns and common landscapes in some of mine. The landscapes don’t directly reflect actual physical landscapes, however, so I see the differences in the dream-landscapes as something that hold meanings for the individual dream (or series of dreams, if they occur in a common dream-landscape). There are times when I do dream in series over a period of days.
Lately, numbers have been coming up in my dreams, and I’ll wake up with the memory of the number in my mind. Time to buy a lottery ticket? LOL
Seriously, when a number (or numbers) shows up in a dream, I’m usually able to figure out what it means. A recent dream in which I was trying to explain a report of electrical usage to someone significant in my life (okay, okay, it was TargetGuy) emphasized the number 3. March, the 3rd month, will see me making a permanent move from my current work assignment to a new assignment in TG’s area. And I’m not unaware of the electricity between the two of us, so I suppose that’s where the report on electrical usage came from. What I find interesting is that I had this dream in November, but the chance to change work assignments didn’t come up until the end of December (the numbers 1 and 2 also came up in this dream), and the change is being implemented as of March (3).
Do dreams have meanings? I think so.
there are 2 kinds.
not every dream is prophetic. these are the dreams that are cathartic and bring to the surface parts of our day we emotionally slept thru (using symbolism sometimes).
the smaller percentage is you without your mental armour up. enjoy it.its real.
yea, usually I am very good at deciphering ,the cathartic dreams. I am really good at figuring out the symbolism in dreams too ( at least mine). The other night I had everything in my dream from someone dressed up as Tigger (yes, Pooh’s friend), to completing the Dance Routine to Dirty Dancing (“Nobody puts Babey in the corner”.) The dreams I was wondering about seem to be more prophetic. I’m trying to decipher what are my own thoughts and what are not. I think I know the answer, but I am kind of scared to get my hopes too high
.
I had some prophetic dreams when I was younger, but I haven’t had any in a really long time.
I’ve had a fair bit of dental work lately (getting a new crown, getting those fancy composite fillings, etc.) and I’ve had nightmares almost every night about my teeth falling out. I hate having bad dreams.
I have some very weird and interesting dreams at times, I have had so many deja vu moments where I have drempt something and its happened its unreal.
My most recent dream that meant something to me was a dream about my grandfather, I saw him, ran over to him and hugged him and then started crying and he whispered something in my ear which Im sure was “life is short”
I told my mum (my grandfathers daughter) and my sister about this and they both said it was something that he would say.
I have the wierdest dreams ever.
One time I had a dream the devil stabbed me in the back and I died.
Then a while later my dad said he had a dream that the devil killed him. I was like whoa thats wierd me too.
I’ve had all kinds of dreams. Even conceptual ones with just ‘shapes’.
Yes, they can be messages from your unconscious, or from God. There isn’t just one way at looking at them. Your unconscious is always involved of course.
damn, i cant remember when i last dreamt somthing.. but its gotta be years ago, or perhaps i just forget what i dream again before i wake up..
still iv had a few deja vu moments, like yestaday i was going to deliver my youngest sister at a birthday party, id never been there before, but stepping out of the bus the route to the house just came to me.. kinda scary, in a good way =P
Has anyone dreamt of using pheromones or of the forum itself? I haven’t so far…
No, but one user reported having very aggressive dreams when spraying Turn Up The Heat on just before dropping off to sleep.
I’d love to find out what I dream of when using other pheros. Alpha A314 would be an interesting pheromone to use for dreams. Think I’ll stay away from Instant Honesty.
Dreams have a reputation for letting you know what’s in your deepest subconscious, and I wouldn’t want Instant Honesty helping with that.
I’ll be finding out soon enough when I get mine. ![]()

On the other hand Instant Honesty may be good for self-development!
True. It would make an interesting experiment.

seriously… why not?
two weeks ago I was running hypnotic games with my subconscious self, basically saying… show me something that lets me know that you’re there in the form of a signal..
soo… I’m dreaming and I get one of those "this is your subconscious " mild electrical humms, and the dream screen becomes like the window in the pilot’s cabin of a large aricraft, and we, err… me and myself, well, the dream screen begins to tilt like we are banking hard, the the dream screen turns 180 degrees upside down, so I watch or partake of the rest of the dream upside down… and what is there of my “dream-consciousness” (James Hillman’s concept) is thinking, What The F ? this dream is upside down… I have NEVER dreamed upside down… and in the “dream background” I heard a chortle… theeees eeeez your subconscious speeeeeeeking… ![]()
