The other day, a sunny moderately warm day, in my home town just North of Memphis, I lazily sat on my wrap around porch conversing with the God of all things Warm and Sunny. It was a deep, transitional moment after a long departure. We had argued before about longer days and warmer climates, but how that God mistook my words and deep strife was created. The God of all things Warm and Sunny would abruptly leave me last September leaving a void to be filled by his evil twin, Cold and Gloomy. And it was.
I made an offering, an appeasement if you will, for the return of my beloved. Laid out a young maiden, rubbed with exotic oils and whip cream, I was to take the ultimate plunge and sacrifice the chaste to do the works of Gods and bestow a heavenly glow to our Mother, the All Mighty Feminine presence that bestows upon us all creation in every form. I heard her cry as I took her daughter on the alter and the gates of heavenly bliss was released and the Gods smiled down upon the writhing bodies, where electricity and fire conversed, Gods and mortals sang together in harmonic resonance and the chains that bound broke. Our offering of love through wild abandonment of all but flesh and carnal desires was enough to sett free the confines of the self imposed retreat of the God of all things Warm and Sunny. At last, at last we shall be warm.
What started as a typical St Patty’s day drinking away the not quite here warm weather, while toasting with green vodka, we sang traditional Irish songs. The usual fare of corned beef and cabbage consumed, with Sheppard pie and Irish Whiskey Cake. Ahh the tastes of the island nation!
We headed to our typical Irish stomping grounds of: Dan McGuinness - Spottswood but oh what a crowd. Barely room to walk and 20 minutes just to get a beer. We left quickly and headed for another bar. We decided on one that held a traditional Irish name and fare: Bill’s. OK maybe not so traditional, but sheesh this is my story
.
The fair maiden, the only among the broken and drunken who clung to their beers was guarding her virtue like a lion. Beset on all sides by crazy old men and drunken sots, broken men with tales of days long expired of when they could drink the night away. Now they sit peering into their mugs as if it were crystal balls exposing a fate dark and grim. But she shined and took their orders, filled their pints and the glimmer in her eye was hope enough that all was not lost. Her smile radiant and glowing with the warmth of a loving daughter, the daughter of innocence, but she was guarded.
The new ones were jovial, partying enjoying and loving. We spoke to everyone, ran the bar, ran the crowd, ensuring the drinks flowed for all. She was cautious, even though everyone there wanted to debase her, to put her up on the bar and perverse her soul, the most foul and wicked thoughts running through their minds, they still guarded her. She was a member, she was their innocence, the last bastion that once held their very souls and hopes and dreams. And if I was to have her the Guth would be emptied and surely the end would be upon them. Unless…
Unless I was to empty my own soul and offer it as a sacrifice. To give of myself this act of love, this act of great kindness to bestow upon humanity for the greater good. Even though lurking behind the brown of my eyes the glimmer and far of stare of the serpent gleamed from afar I easily disarmed her. “Unlike everyone here, I’m not trying to fuck you.”
The other day, a sunny moderately warm day, in my home town just North of Memphis, A FedEx truck appeared and in his hands a package from our very own Warren. Four custom designed mixes and all for me to have a sneak preview. “Erotic Adventures” was my first trip into the mixology of the famed Warren. It was not to disappoint.
St Patrick’s day, green beads, green pants, drunken courage, outrageous game and a magical elixir. Every person in the bar was my friend. My bar tab ended at $19 with drinks and shots for the house several times. Life was great and what started as “she’s like my daughter” with all the men thinking “yeah the one I want to bang like a drum
” soon turned into you are so cool, you guys would be awesome together, blah, blah blah.
OK so that was the first time using the mix and everything worked out well
.
Last night was the Pony (Jiggly Wiggly Bar) and things were pretty cool there too. I’m not into the whole stripper thing but I couldn’t keep them away. Usually I tell them no I’m here to drink and even smoking a big ole cigar couldn’t keep them away. Heck I even told them I was broke. If you’re wondering why I go, its for the waitresses.
So I ended up leaving at 2:30, drunk, with T-shirts for all of us, lifetime VIP passes, and free beer pretty much all night. Holy Fungus!
I’ll be heading out to a regular bar tonight and we’ll see what happens. So far - Two Thumbs Up.
This is exactly why I love my job ![]()
P.S. The world has me to thank for summer. Global warming is my doing too. You’re all welcome.
