I’m currently writing some erotic novels but I’ve run out of ideas… Plz give me som insperation…
If you all you girls wanted to read a erotic novel… what would it be about?
Do you want naughty words or a more passionate language?
A more detailed story or leave it more to the fantasy?
Just a thought but if you wanted to pick up some ideas, my girl reads alot of erotic novels from an author named Robin Schone, maybe you can get some ideas from her books, just google it
Something with a storyline. Girls need a reason for the eroticism and small details that normally go unnoticed by guys like small touches and the way things smell also work.
Generally, I think it really depends on the situation. But I’d prefer more realistic fantasy situations compared to space alien fantasy. Other factors really depend on personal preferences and the feel of the overall story.
You’re a guy, right? Feel free to take this as a challenge rather than a deterrent but I think it would be a rare man who could successfully write erotica for women.
Reading some trashy romance novels would be a very good place to start. My life experiences tell me that what men find erotic and what women find erotic are very different. For example, explicit language may be used, but is not necessarily a requirement. There has to be a building of tension. Most women want there to be a plot, and I would say also some substantially serious feelings involved also. Characters need to be developed. Many women are attracted to intelligence and wit over mere physical attractiveness. Likewise, most women like to think that men are attracted to more than just their looks also. In a nutshell, I think men are much more visually focused than women, so you will have to explore all that non-visual stuff that, as a guy, you don’t tend to focus on yourself.
Also, take this with a grain of salt because these are just my opinions; obviously women differ in their tastes.
women like details, mushy moments, and more than just “His purple-headed warrior plunged into her quivering mound of love pudding” (yes, direct quote from the Naked Gun movie)
From some short stories I have written, I scored higher with stories, that set the mood of the moment, more than the description of the act of making love.
Describing the bedroom, were there candles burning? Was she wearing her sexy neck liege?, describe the scene in full detail,
Describing his and her breathing, where their hands were what they were feeling, how the hands feel to the partner, feed the senses with the eroticism of the moment, capture the emotions of the act, the follow up with the partners pillow time, what are they thinking, what are they saying, things like that.
A friend of mine said she switched from Daniel steel novels to some of the more erotic Christian romance novels, because the sex scenes were described in less graphic detail but better in more colorful terms, and she liked them better.
Remember it is more than just meet and screw, women plan things out get details straight, most guys are along for the ride once she makes up her mind what is going to happen.
kitten is right there are lots of online story guilds, most have people who read and edit stories for fun which can be a big help when writing erotica.
as for story ideas, I tend to draw from my own knowledge of things, so they resemble things I have experienced, or have heard about happening.
for example the second floor in my dorm in college was essentially an orgy waiting to happen, (small dorm 16 rooms by 3 floors)
I was on first floor, so the stories a couple of my more “chaste” female friends from the second floor told, and I saw or overheard, would work well for a stroke novel, but not for a romance.
I think you received really good advice so far from everyone. If you write one let us know - I will try it out! I used to love a good smut Jackie Collins read especially her earlier stuff like Chances, etc. :o They had all the sexy juciness, details and multiple characters and storylines. It kept me interested and also made me pretty hot at times. I agree that women need a bit more - describe all the senses - sight, smell, touch, taste, sounds, etc. Good juicy smut with a storyline is good stuff! I may go out and get one now…
