Essential oils and homebrewed scents

Hey guys,

I am interested in crafting a signature scent for myself rather than relying on bottled cologne. On LS, there are threads about Sandalwood and Aloeswood EO, which have piqued my interest. Basically, the whole concept of EOs interests me, but I haven’t the slightest idea how one would mix them up, other than a recurring theme of “1:10 ratio with jojoba oil, or a similar dillutant”.

So… my question is have any of you tinkered with EOs to come up with a scent all your own that’s both pleasant to the ladies (and self of course), and effective at covering the more funky mones, such as -none? If so, a little commentary and opinion on it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You should ask the ladies about EO and mixing. Especially Carrie who still posts. She was incredible in her wisdom she provided me. Maybe she will stop by and reply.

I’ve included links to thread I started a while back on same thing:

You may want to look in the Woman’s Forum over at LS. Look for “Perfuming Basics” it’s about 1/3 of the way down the first page.

Ah, thanks SteveO. Will check it out.

MtnJim has Sage advice as well.

I’d second that sage advice, or third, as the case may be. It’s a huge thread, hosted by yours truly.

I’d looked at that thread before, and my initial impression was that it was geared to the ladies, and that the combos were more for them. I suppose I should have a closer look. It’s kind of hard to tell the difference between masculine and feminine scents of EOs without actually smelling them, so I wasn’t sure.

Thanks again!

There are things for men too in there, just not as much since more ladies asked questions. You could always help tilt the balance the other way, though.

I dabble in aromatherapy, just for fun, nothing on the Doc’s level though. I make a mean sore muscle rub that my friends and family really like. They wont use anything else now.

My husband dosnt wear cologne but he will use soap and shower scrubs that i make for him. I suggest you check out Amazon and get a good EO book and then look at some of the free info online as well.

Masculine scents I like to use for my husband

Sandlewood, Leather, Oakmoss, bay or bay rum (which is so yummy) sage cederwood, wood resins, tobacco, juniper, citrus, lavender, (yes lavender not by its self though lol) vetiver.

You can goggle “recipes for masculine EO scents” and see what you come up with. It really is a fun hobby.

I too dabble in perfuming but consider myself a rank amateur. I actually own more EOs than pheromones! Sometimes I mix up small custom batches of my favs–citrus, spices, tobacco and wood EOs–and mix with chemset pheromones. The scent of clove, pine and bergamot is heavenly. Other times I have spiked commercial colognes like CK One or Realm. One improves greatly with bergamot and grapefruit EOs as normally it’s too floral. I get lots of compliments when I wear Realm spiked with clove and cedar or pine (and additional chemset pheromones).

I can’t stand sage or patchouli–too new age hippie for me.

The main problem I’ve had with EOs is they’re extremely concentrated and thus prone to irritating your skin. I have to tread light dilute wildly or I’ll be covered with a mean rash.

Clove is what makes my husband start itching that and cinnamon but clove does smell nice in a mix gives it a nice energy kick.

Data here is a site that may be a little helpful for you. Its a little more aromatherapy then perfumery but they do tell you what blends well.

Yep, both clove 'n cinnamon are rash city for me.

Sheesh, Tisha your avatars are giving me naughty thoughts…

Ever chewed clove?

In some royal courts you had to chew clove.

Now that’s interesting - spiking colognes. I’d love to learn more or experiment with that..

Myself I did create a sort of EO mix of mine, search for candyman…
I still have some left though I think it needs more -none to be effective for me. Hmm I have an idea, I may try it again now… thanks for the inspiration!:smiley:
